Honestly I think more media needs to take notes from Wolf 359. On a lot of things really but specifically from having the Dear Listeners learn English from Doug. Enough aliens speaking in perfect but extremely rigid and formal human languages. MORE aliens using a shitload of slang and pop culture references because they learned their human language from someone who calls himself Dougie Fresh
Theo Hagan, a twenty-five year old, picked up a ringing phone at two in the morning and now he's an hour outside of town to pick up his drunk fifteen year old brother and his equally drunk friends.
He's tired. He wants to go to bed. He's a little pissed that none of these bozos had an actually plan on how they were going to get home when they decided to go to an out of town college party but..
This is a good deed.
This is a great deed because he'd prefer it his brother didn't die (so he can kill him himself) and because good things happen to those who do good things, right?
Wrong.
Theo just got sucker punched with, "You're like a dad to me."
"No," He says to the drunk teen in the passenger seat of his car. "No, Steve. No, I’m not."
"Yeah."
"No."
"You're my dad," Steve insists, slurs. Twists the knife in deeper and ages Theo twenty-five additional years. "Wish you were my dad."
"I’m your brother," Theo says because it's more or less true. "I’m like a brother to you. Not a dad."
"No," Steve shakes his head and then stops when the world shakes with it. "You're like - no, I mean. I wish you - I wish my dad was like. Was like you. I wish he was like you."
That was...better? Maybe. Not by much.
"Why?"
"You're nice to me," Steve says heartbreakingly simple. He takes a breath and then asks like every other overly emotional teenage drunk, "Do Tommy and Carol hate me?"
"No. If anything, they like you too much."
"They left me."
"They went into McDonalds to get us food before we drive an hour back home, remember?" He says, looking up to see where those idiots are and... "They're getting handsy. Great."
He lays on the horn.
Tommy and Carol stop kissing to laugh when Theo yells out the window, "Get in the car, assholes."
"Do you like me?"
"I love ya, kid," Theo says as Tommy yanks open the door to the backseat and spills in.
He reaches into the backseat to grab the food and to slap Tommy upside the head. He tells Steve, "You're my favorite."
just witnessed something devastating

Eddie comes off stage and immediately pulls Tiktok up on his phone so he can watch the latest part in Robin's ongoing series, Texts from my Best Friend: A Dramatic Reading
Robin (as Steve): Hey, can I send you a picture of my dick and/or balls without you being weird about it?
Robin (as Robin) Uhhh, no???? I'm going to be extremely weird about it. Why would you do that????
Robin (as Steve): Oh!
Robin (as Steve): LOL. I meant to send that to someone else
Robin (as Robin): Who???!
Robin (as Robin): And why?????
Robin (as Robin): Stop leaving me on read, asshole.
Robin (as Robin): Steeeeeeeeeb!
Eddie (typing in the comments with no intention of hitting send): He can send his pics to me
Eddie: *hits sends for some fucking reason*
Eddie: *doesn't know how to delete comments*
Eddie: *panicking*
Robin: Yeah, I bet you would like that. Stalker.
Steve: *sudden the most interesting guy on a social media platform he doesn't have*
You have to have a job to make money. You have to have money to go to Europe. You have to have a job to make money. You have to -
Robin keeps telling herself this.
She repeats it when she's cold. She repeats it when her feet hurt. She repeats it when the nautical music playing over the speaker starts permeating her dreams. She repeats it incredibly hard when she goes into the back of Scoops Ahoy for her lunch break and five minutes into it -
"I need you to cover."
Her food isn't even finished heating up in the microwave, "I’m on br-"
"I need you to cover," Steve says, not even stopping in his stride across the room and out the back into the hallway.
"Un-fucking-believable."
She almost doesn't. She almost sits her ass down and eats her lunch but, "You need to have a job to make money. You need money to go to Europe."
She abandons her lunch and walks to the front. Her frown twists in disgust, "What can I get you?"
"Not gonna take me for a sail on an ocean of flavor, sweetheart?"
Robin raises an unimpressed eyebrow and states, "You're smudging the glass, Hargrove. What do you want?"
"Where'd Harrington scurry off to?"
"I recommend USS Butterscotch," She states. "It's a big hit with Neanderthals."
"Harrington is-"
"We don't allow loitering," She talks over him. "If you're not ordering than you need to leave before I have to call mall security. You don't want that because Greg - the mall security officer - he hates being called because the, you know. Lack of air conditioning. Puts him in a bad mood and-
"Okay," Billy says, already annoyed by her yapping. She keeps talking until, "Okay! I’m leaving. Tell Harrington that I'll see him around."
Robin watches him go.
She frowns.
Her eyes dart around the mostly-empty shop and then she pushes off the counter. She goes into the back, past her lunch cooling in the microwave, through the door.
She doesn't have to go far to find Steve.
He's sitting on the ground with his elbows rested on his knees. His hands in his hair. He's breathing in a familiar way, measured and intentional.
Robin slides down the wall beside him.
She stares ahead.
She chews on her bottom lip and thinks to say something but - they're not really friends. They're barely coworkers. They started two weeks ago so...
"He tried to kill me."
"What?"
"Hargrove," Steve clarifies to the wall in front of them. "Last year with, you know. The fight. He was. Yeah, he probably would've killed me if - and."
He tugs on his hair, takes a deep breath, "He's such a dick. I hate dealing with him."
Robin watches Steve stand up. She watches him brush off his clothes and say like nothing bad has ever happened, "Thanks for covering. I owe you one, Buckley."
Steve's baseball team decide that they want to play a prank on their coach.
They get shirts screen-printed with Steve's face on it and something silly he always says, and then they all wear them to practice. They time how long it takes Steve to notice (nine minutes and only because the team had a bad case of giggles).
It's a funny prank.
Steve gets a kick out of it.
Unbeknownst to Steve or the team, the guy who made their shirts is an old friend of Eddie 'left Hawkins and got famous' Munson.
It was a known secret in Hellfire that Eddie was crushing bad on King Steve so he sent Eddie one of the shirts.
Imagine Steve confusion when he flips the tv over to MTV and sees his old classmate being interviewed...wearing a shirt with his face on it.
There's a number at the bottom of the screen that you can call to ask Eddie a question.
Steve calls.
Before the interviewer can finish saying, "We have someone on the line from your homet-"
"Why are you wearing a shirt with my face on it?" Steve asks. "And would it kill you to answer the phone when Dustin calls you? Or call him back? The kid misses you."
Now half of America thinks Eddie is a deadbeat father.

they kill people
There is only one day a year that Hopper likes his job.
On the first day of First Responders Appreciation Week at the end of his shift, he knows that they will be heading to the overpriced steakhouse just outside of town for free meal he could not justify paying for on any other day.
Powell jokes to Callahan that this is the only reason Hopper became a cop just as the hostess informs them, "I'm going to sit you with somebody."
He blinks, "What?"
"I am going to sit you with someone," She repeats with a painted smile. "Otherwise, my manager is going to ask me to ask him to leave and I cannot do that so, follow me. Right this way."
Hopper's gaze follows ahead to their seat and he sighs at the sight of Richard Harrington's unsupervised five year old.
Steve's head is down.
He jerks up when Hopper pulls out the chair next to him and wipes his eyes on his sleeve. He gives a watery smile, "Hi, Mr Hopper. Hi, Officer Powell."
"I’m literally here too," Callahan mutters. Powell excused himself to speak to the manager, sharing a look with Hopper that says he'll figure out what's going on.
Hopper is an impatient man. He goes to the source, "What are you doing all the way out here?"
"Oh, um. My basketball team from the country club made it to the final round in our tournament and, um. We came here to celebrate."
The distinct lack of children running around hangs in the silence between them before Steve adds, "They left."
"You didn't go with them?"
"No, they- it's okay," Steve says, clearly upset. He takes a deep breath and exhales, "They forgot."
"Forgot what?"
"My, um. My friend, Danny. He - he wasn't bein' very careful and he spilled steak sauce on my shirt," Steve says, pointing to the large stain splattered across the right shoulder of his pullover. "It was an accident, I think. And, um. I went to the restroom 'cause Mama gets mad if I’m dirty and I... And they forgot. And they left."
The kid tries to smile.
It doesn't meet his eyes.
"It's okay though," Steve reassures him. "Cause, um. It didn't hurt my feelings none 'cause it was - it was an accident."
"It was an accident," He repeats like a self-sooth. "I was in the restroom a long time and I’m littler than everyone else, and Coach Adam-"
"Your coach left you here?"
"Assistant coach," Callahan supplies. "Not that it matters but he's the assistant coach. I’m friends with his roommate. We're the same age."
"So old enough to do a head count?"
"The whole team was here so, um," Steve tries to justify. He's trying to rationalize himself out of his hurt feelings and he's too fucking young to be doing that. Hopper is pissed.
"Adam is a di- a jerk," Callahan says. "Every time I’m over at his place, he's complaining about coaching rich kids and how some guy forced their kid on the team with new unif- not you! Someone else, for sure. I’m just...shutting up now."
If looks could kill Hopper would still contemplate shooting his probie with a gun because Steve concludes, "So, no one likes me."
"Everyone likes you, kid," Hopper says, but his voice sounds angry. All this kid wants is friends.
Steve is the youngest on the team by a couple years because Richard Harrington got the age requirement waived. Hopper gets being annoyed by it. He gets benching the kid most of the season, but he does not understand this unnecessary bullshit cruelty.
"Hey, hon." Hopper nearly misses their waitress approach. "Are these gentlemen who you called to help with the bi-"
"No."
"Give us a minute," Hopper tells her when she tries to shift gears and take their drink order. He takes a moment, reassesses, and then lays out, "So, your coach-"
"My friend."
"-drove a bunch of kids twenty-five minutes out of town, racked up a bill of probably hundreds, and left you-"
"On accident," Steve sniffles.
"-with no safe way home and with the check? And none of those kids had a problem with it," He finishes. "These people are not your friends, Steve."
"Can you stop talking to me?" Steve asks with a voice brimming with tears. He presses his hands into his eyes, "My heart hurts."
"I’m sorry, kid."
"I want - I want my mama."
Hopper almost says that he'll take the kid home when he sees a familiar car pull into the parking lot. He watched the car park, the headlights go out, and an imposing figure step from the vehicle, "She's here, kid."
And she looks pissed.
Angela Harrington was never a particularly intimidating figure - too petite, too young, too classic in her beauty - but she moved like a storm into the restaurant.
"I called her," Steve says, pulling him away from the pissed off hurricane heading towards them. "Mr Hopper, you know how I’m big?"
"Yeah, Steve."
"And big kids don't cry none."
"They-"
"I don't want to be big right now," He says and then crumbled into tears. Angela just reaches their table when Steve cries, "Mama, I’m so sad."
Angela's anger melts to understanding, to a mother's heartache, in the seconds she picks up her sobbing child. He clings. She holds him tight, rest her cheek to the top of his head and assures him that it's okay. He'll be okay.
And then it's gone.
Her eyes glaze over with its usual unreadable aloofness and she says to the officers, "Thank you for keeping him company until I got here."
"No problem."
She reached into her pocket and pulls out cash, "He said there was a bill..."
"Don't worry about it," Powell says before Hopper. "I spoke with the manager and we agreed the meals should be paid for by their rightful owner. It won't be too hard to track them down."
"Good," She says, trying to hand them the money. "For your-"
"Ours is on the house, don't worry about it."
She sits the cash on the table anyways, "Tip your waitress."
David Hagan is barely through the front door when he hears, "Dad! Daaaaaaaaddddd! Da-"
Tommy," He addresses his impatient five year old. "Can your old man get a hello first?"
"Hi," He says. "Steve is here."
"Okay?"
"He wants to tell you a joke," Tommy tells him. "It's really dumb but you gotta laugh anyways so you don't hurt his feelings. He has a lot of feelings."
David smiles.
Now if only Tommy would have the same consideration for his brothers' feelings.
"I might think it's funny."
"You won't."
Tommy holds his hand out for his dad to take and then pulls him deeper into their chaotic home. He leads his father to the kitchen where his wife is cooking with some help from their littlest guest.
David kisses his wife and then claps his hands together, "What's this that I hear about a joke, Steve?"
"Oh! I have one to tell you," Steve says, fighting a grin. "What's a dentist's favorite time?"
"Hm," David hums like he's thinking about it. "Lunchtime?"
"No," Steve giggles. "2:30...get it? Cause tooth hurty. It's funny 'cause you're a dentist."
"Oh man," David laughs. He even slaps his knee, he laughs so much. "I gotta tell my hygienist that joke. That's hilarious."
Steve smiled, pleased with himself, and tells Tommy, "See! I told you he'd think it's funny."
"Yeah, I guess you were right."
"you lure them in, i mow them down"
The only thing I'm actively acknowledging about s5 is Steve and his chainsaw let that boy go feral!
(also that henley, i lowkey want that henley)
I'm so normal about them (looks at four steddie fic drafts) anyway-

“Where are you supposed to be right now?”
Eddie gasps the question out between hot, wet kisses. For a long moment dominated by a heady press of lips, he gets no answer, so he lifts his hands and buries them in thick, gorgeous hair, using his leverage to separate them a scant inch.
“Grocery shopping,” Steve breathes, heavy-lidded, his pupils blown and fuck, he’s so gorgeous. Eddie has long resigned himself to never getting over that fact, and actually, he loves the little thrill of lust-longing-love he feels whenever he catches sight of Steve’s face. Eddie could – has – written song after song about how beautiful Steve is, how fun and smart and badass he is, how easy it is to love him and so on and on. The rest of Corroded Coffin give him so much shit for it – how many metal bands have albums worth of love songs banked? they always tease – but Eddie’s songwriting process very much consists of dumping out what’s going on in his head in metre and verse. So it’s not his fault, really, because his head is full of Steve, like, 90% of the time on any given day.
But the thing is, no one knows the songs are all about Steve.
The two "created in a lab" fantasies:
Yes, everything about me is fucked up, but what if that was secretly awesome?
Yes, everything about me is fucked up, but what if there was someone to blame?
“No man is an island” oh really? Really? What about him?:
