I just finished The Owl House finally and wowza. I'm an emotional wreck and I will be rewatching it, probably within the next week. Tomorrow unless I get distracted by a new show or H2O again. Anyways best show ever omg. 10000000000000/10 would recommend to every single person. Watchable in like 3 or 4 days no problem. (If you're very unemployed and have no friends or life. I could've done it in 1 or two if I didn't sleep so much and get distracted so easily.)
Random thoughts about Marauders Characters because I don't want to sleep. (More yapping than originally intended but it's not that bad) And written at 4am beware...
James- I've never been super for the James being the mom of the friend group thing. I also stand for him being a bad influence. Maybe Sirius was against his parents beliefs but he was still raised by them. So when he and James became friends his world then shifted into the chaotic beautiful mess it is.
I do love the very egotistical James Potter. I also don't like viewing him as this perfect, charismatic, kind, caring guy with no depth or flaws other than his famous ego. I like teenage boy who needs to be put in his place time to time. The boy who's misbehavior isn't just having fun despite the consequences but something he originally thinks there shouldn't be consequences for. Perhaps a James that thinks he's owed a little more than usual by the world because he was very spoiled.
Sirius- I have a place in my heart for all versions of Sirius Black I've encountered. The overly feminine, the rockstar, the beloved manwhore. Again, I love my imperfections so I like my Sirius' a little crazy (said with love). I'd like to see more of Sirius as a student. I haven't read a lot about the Marauders actual lives outside of the interesting bits most fics center around. (I have not read ATYD, does it have any of that?) But I feel like Sirius' relationship with school work and grades would be an interesting thing to look into given his past and rebellion against it.
Remus- Most of the main Marauders has kind of turned into going against the most basic outline of them and that continues. I don't mind him being a "bookworm" or kind of a nerd but I like to think of it (in a world where he couldn't read going into Hogwarts) as pushing against that. Whether him learning how to read meant a lot to him, maybe he experienced something along the lines of bullying because he couldn't read and he's trying to get as far away from that as possible, or maybe he's trying to catch up on everything he missed. I just love to find reason behind every little thing.
Peter- I personally love Peter. In my head he's this sweet, funny, and maybe a little socially stupid kind of guy. He's a good person but doesn't always get what's going on. He's the first to crack a joke or break the silence though. He loves pranks (maybe he came up with the first prank the marauders ever did together.) He probably makes fun of everyone else's issues (not in a bad way like making fun of their trauma or anything) in an endearing kind of way, they get so used to it that it's honestly just become a good way of knocking some sense into his friends.
Lily- Lily has never been a character I've been attached to personally. Part of that stems from the lack of media (at least that I've seen) about her outside of the four Marauders. I definitely love to read anything regarding her relationship with her family. As one of the characters with the most canon information it gives her (I've said this so many times) some depth that I really appreciate when I do see something about her. I don't see a lot of her outside of ships or comments about her academics (I wouldn't mind stuff about her academics if she had a real storyline attached to it rather than it being her identity). I'd love to see more of her interacting with the girls, I like her relationship with Remus a lot of the time but I just haven't seen enough of her outside of the few things she gets over and over again.
Mary- I say now I don't have a lot to say about Mary but I'm sure this paragraph will end up quite long. I can appreciate any view of these characters as long as it has enough depth. With Mary she gets this pretty and popular vibe, she's sassy and sweet but it feels like just the same stereotype relayed onto different characters without a second thought. Which of course I know it's asking a lot for depth in every single character but even a little shadow makes the picture a lot more alive, you know. I'm probably going to research Headcanons for her backstory after this because I'm actually quite curious now. She's a muggle born, usually you'd imagine they either go down the path of becoming obsessed with magic or just never really settling into it. I think she's the latter. She doesn't dislike magic, she uses it... It's just not something she puts on a pedestal, at least after first and maybe second year. She stays at Hogwarts because her friends are there and well it's a highschool diploma without ever having to take another math or English class. Not that she wasn't smart, in fact she did quite well in school. At Hogwarts she struggled to get her footing at first which was new to her. It took a couple years for her to feel like she should even be there. But once she got the basics she made quite the witch, she understood the theory of it, something she found fascinating and that people born into the magic world never bothered thinking about. It helped her pull ahead eventually and become a good student again. Though when she thought she had no chance of getting the magical part of this world she found other ways to feel like she belonged where she was. That's how and why she is the popular and caring person she is. Popular because she felt like she needed to be liked to be there and caring because she hated feeling like she didn't belong and didn't want anyone else to feel like that.
Marlene- Marlene has probably always been my favorite girl. I like her having only brothers. I stand firm in the bleached almost white blonde hair that doesn't get redone nearly enough. I've always seen Marlene as at least part asian, I've never been strict in my thoughts of specifics. There are a couple ideas of her I struggle to fuse at times, one being an alternative, not really femme or masc, bitchy (in a positive way if that makes sense), speak when spoken to because she just doesn't bother unless it feels right, smudged eyeliner, cherry lip stain, baggy tshirts over white long sleeves. The other being a slightly more feminine presenting but masculine energy Marlene, the kind that dated Sirius for a period of time, the kind that talks loudly and often, and is the chaser on the Gryffindor team. I love both, everything in between, and am curious towards that on the outside.
Dorcas- I like Dorcas as a Slytherin and a Gryffindor. I think she says what she wants either way and is very anti blood purism (you know that one clip from the fan film? I cannot remember what the fan film is called). I like Slytherin Dorcas being representation for those who aren't death eaters or Pure bloods or assholes in general. I also think it's a good mixture into the "skittles" rather than them being a bunch of guys and Pandora (that being said I often have Pandora as a Ravenclaw in my head as well as Barty.) I've always felt like Dorcas enjoys Potions quite a bit and maybe charms. She's not necessarily a natural nor does she try extremely hard, somewhere in the middle but still academically successful, I think she is proud of herself for that.
Pandora- I like my Pandora literally insane. Not Loony. She's straight up crazy. I see her and Evan as seers but in different ways. I've seen things where Pandora sees and Evan hears the future, I like that idea a lot. I think Pandora gets along with her father better than her mother but is more like her mom (and Evan the opposite) which is a bit of a cliche but idk I like it. I said earlier I often have Pandora as a Ravenclaw but I'm not against Slytherin. I do think she fits well there. I think she's very resourceful and ambitious as well as creative and witty. I don't think she acts as much like Luna as people typically have her. I kind of think Luna takes after her father's demeanor more. Pandora is caring but not in the light and innocent way. I think as she meets Xeno she starts to become more "whimsical" but she is more of a Pureblood stereotype near the beginning (at least once shes comfortable. I think when she first got to Hogwarts she was a bit of a shy and nervous wreck.)
Evan- Evan is a lot less like Barty than he's usually portrayed in my mind. I do think they have a lot of similarities, especially as time goes on, but I also think Evan is a little more of a typical teenage boy and a lot more of a gentleman. He doesn't shy away from being proper and well behaved as much as Barty does and does take pride in his heritage, though he doesn't super live by the rulebook (aka he doesn't generally treat muggle borns like shit and tell every Gryffindor to 😵). He's very insistent that he is NOT a seer no matter what. He comes up with any excuse. He's sleep deprived or stressed, it's just a dream or he overheard someone talking about it. Whatever he can to convince himself he's not like that! He's not like Dora!... He loves his sister, he does. But sometimes she made life hard at home. She never got the hint to just shut it about what she saw. He resents her for making his life harder but she's still his sister... Hell, his twin. And she will always be important to him.
Barty- He's smart. He plays it off most of the time, it was easy, I got lucky, I cheated. Whatever. Until he wants to rub it in someone's face. Part of him was really pissed he got out in Ravenclaw. Part of him was actually proud. He felt like someone who mattered and was more than his dad always told him he was. I think his dad was a Slytherin and his mom was a Ravenclaw. She loved him but he hates his father so much that he ended up shunning both of them. This then made him resent his father even more. He lost the only person who cared about him because of him. That, and a combination of other things is what started to turn him towards the death eaters. I of course will find any excuse to keep all of these characters from their canon futures so we're just going to say he never goes too far down that hole but it gets uncomfortably close at a point.
Regulus- I've started to like Regulus A LOT more recently. He has so much depth to him just by default. He has experienced so much canonically. Of course the Black family was horribly abusive. His cousins and his brother were there though. Until Andromeda wasn't. And Sirius wasn't. Then Bellatrix went practically insane. Narcissa married. Regulus was alone. And the heir. And everything boiled up until he had to make his decision. There were two paths carved out already, run or stay and face the consequences. He saw how happy Sirius and Andy were. He saw Cissa and Bella... The choice seemed obvious! Oh... I guess not? But that's just one side of the story. Sometimes he chooses the secret third option and falls in love with James Potter. I'd say I didn't see that path coming but with this fandom. That shits paved and has a sprinkler system. This was just yapping because honestly no notes, love the guy.
A Lily fic I will always always always recommend is The Last Enemy series by CH Darling. The two works up rn are fifth year and sixth year and they have povs from each of the four Marauders, Lily, Snape (and an actual canon complaint in depth characterization it’s phenomenal truly for getting into his head WITHOUT making him a good person and it’s masterfully done), and a select few from Regulus!!!
