Re-watching s1 of Fallout and it makes me even more angry about the potentional of s2. We could've had such a good season

Ep 8 thoughts

Short one this time - overall, it just felt a bit lackluster… like a balloon that’s just about to pop but just deflates instead like pfft 💨 or a sneeze that never comes - unsatisfactory

none of the reunions felt impactful. lucy hasn’t mentioned max (or norm, or her mom) at all, like ??? is that an intentional omission, or bad writing? and dont get me started on how her journey was left off in this final ep 😒

barb loses her oomph and coolness (imo) by not being being a ‘villain’. and going along with coop’s hope that the US pres. would ‘save the world’ with the diode is just dumb. her character seemed so much smarter than that. and if it’s something like, she’s actually a villain and playing coop AGAIN - ???

too many lore easter eggs, too many fanboy 🫵woah hype🫵 moments, not enough deep, meaningful dialogue/scenes between characters like s1

amazon needs to consider more episodes or the writers need to trim down the plot lines going forward

im not expecting all plot lines to resolve by the end of a season, but s1 and 2 feel like a single season that took a midseason break

max refusing to kill ghouls contrasts lucy dehumanizing them.

i think it reveals that max's empathy is pure, while lucy puts principles rooted in logic first, as she is still a product of her upbringing.

that would explain why she went out of her way to help the slave woman, yet wasn't really impacted by her brutal murder and was ready to help the legion too.

this doesn't mean that she will stay prejudiced, but i think she will kill hank and it will be contrasted to max refusing to kill his "father figure."

so, lucy will adjust her "golden rule" and possibly become ruthless in process. which will prove the ghoul's point that they are the same.

and if that's what they're going for, i will take back my criticism that lucy lacks development, bc it would make sense why her journey is not about strengthening her will in face of struggle, but rather about getting addicted to the thrill of wasteland as she adapts to her reality.

What still pisses me off abt fallout 4 is how, in simple text, it is a doomed narrative haunted by both your dead spouse and the child you're tearing the wasteland apart to find. You walk through the park you conceived Shawn in and find children's comic books he would have liked. You go to places you graduated, or were set to give a speech at. You scavenge from the store you probably bought your baby food from. Your home is literally torn asunder and unrecognizable but you recognize it. You pass houses you might have had friends at. Dealerships you might have gotten your car from. The robotics store you got Codsworth from, the only other person who knows what you mean and who you're talking about when you go "I used to take my partner here for dinner," "I had photos of Shawn in this child's swing," "This was the first road I drove on when I got my license."

Like. How fucking haunting. You're the ghost. You're not the one who survived. You died and came back, and to the ones who've grown up here, you're Wrong. You don't act like anyone they've met before. And they don't seem to notice all the things that are incorrect. Everything you are is Wrong. You're a puzzle piece removed and shoved back into it once it was chopped up and sewn back together, and you don't fit. But you're there. Your partner is not with you. They died when you didn't. And your baby, probably one of the last babies before the War, is somewhere out there.

And it's genuinely fucking haunting but the game just does not portray that feeling of wrongness and desperation.

Sometimes I walk through places that I absolutely adored and they just don't exist anymore and I feel crushed about it. I imagine it's that feeling but turned up to a 100 and combined with grief for the people that were there as well
