TRACY SPIRIDAKOS at the MONTE CARLO TV FILM FESTIVAL JUNE 16TH, 2023
The Halstead brothers' first and last scene together.
CHICAGO P.D. 2.17: Say Her Real Name (2015) 7.04: Infection, Part III (2019)
TRACY SPIRIDAKOS as HAILEY UPTON CHICAGO FIRE, S07E17 | “MOVE A WALL”
so, you’re telling me that hailey, who didn’t take off her ring for the presumably months that jay didn’t answer his phone (not even when she found out he applied for an extension from his supervisor!), who never once talked shit on his name, who leaves him messages telling him she understands, who encapsulated their apartment from the time her husband left, who said “miss you, love you” maybe 24 hours before, just decided to take off her ring on her own accord and we’re supposed to believe that? that’s the storyline they think we’ll buy into? it’s not an honorable memory for jay halstead because jay halstead would never do that. it’s a shitty take on a couple who fought tooth and nail to be together when they were put through the ringer. two characters that stood by each other’s sides, brought each other out from the dark time and time again both as partners, friends, boyfriend and girlfriend, and husband and wife who were summed up to both doing something as an act of self preservation when their only form of actually self preservation in the shithole that is intelligence was ALWAYS EACH OTHER! hailey should have never been put in the position she’s in, but sadly, with the way the writing has been going for her all season… she’s a ghost of who she is at the core. she can’t just endure trauma after trauma and be expected to be okay at the end of it all. especially when the people she has in their life either 1) can’t be bothered to care about her at all (looking at the team who has known her for years tbh because what the fuck?) or 2) continuously abuse her vulnerability as a means to wear her down. the latter of which hank voight does all the time. he’s either scolding her or pretending like he cares, all in the name of achieving a certain outcome. sometimes both at the same time. last night was a perfect example. the hailey that sits and drinks with him and apparently takes relationship advice isn’t OUR hailey. it’s not the hailey who was pissed that this man was dragging her husband down with him like he also tried to do to her. so, who is this version of hailey upton aside from someone who thinks they deserve the pain they keep putting her through? how did “i swear to you that we’re going to get through this because you’re the love of my life” turn into ignoring phone calls and never coming home and “miss you, love you” turn into hailey taking off her ring? it’s a joke. it’s pain for the sake of pain. there’s no light that comes from any of this. it’s not growth or healing or digging yourself out from the dirt. it’s inexcusably bad writing.
tracy deserves better. jesse deserves better. hailey and jay, both as characters and as the couple we all know and love, deserve better. my heart hurts for them. and for us.
I'm going to answer some of the asks I have about Hailey in one swoop by doubling down on what I said yestersay: this is not self love.
This is not a woman having some epiphany about her worth.
Look, maybe I would have bought the self love angle if the show had given her an arc where she understands that she can grow past this and thrive, but that had to be explicit. What we got was Hailey falling apart while taking off her ring once she was essentially told "he isn't fighting for you, move along" (by Voight, which is an entirely different but equally important conversation).
Frankly, I don't want to be told that this is a good thing for Hailey, or that this is her moving on in a healthy way. This was someone who was so used to abandonment being beaten down enough until she just accepted it. It's shameful that this show wrote a character who spent years healing from her past and learning to let people in, only to treat her like this. Just please, don't simplify it to self love.
THIS!👏🏽👏🏽
I just don’t understand why they’d have Hailey and Jay clearly talking in the beginning of the episode and show they’re communicating, and then throw it all to hell with that ending. I need Gwen to explain herself. Like what was the fucking reason??
Maybe she got tired of wiping the floor with ya. Yeah, no, she didn't get tired of that.
Her training made her even hotter😌🥵🧎🏾♀️
Hailey Upton in “Fagin” (4x21)
Happy 6 years of Hailey Upton for those who celebrate🥳i luv this woman sm🩵
If Hailey gets kidnapped and they basically just deal with in one episode and act like it never happened in last few I won't even be surprised.
It would be very on par with how the PD writers handle their storylines…just shove it in a box and move on to the next traumatic experience.

A Hailey-centric, you say?

Happy birthday to him! The most amazing, kind, and wonderful person,i love him sm🥹🩷
Yeah, I'd like to see Tracy leaving too.
And it's not because of Upstead but because how terrible they are treating Hailey... Sad the whole damn season with no friends and only Voight (of all people) to interact most of the time. I don't think the writers know what to do with her, so no... I don't want to see how they slowly ruin my other favorite character.
Besides, Tracy is way too talented to be reduced to trauma one half of the season and 3 words per episode the other half.
Reblog if you’re over 20 and still read/write fan fiction.
I’m curious!
