Intro Post!

Hello! I go by many names but you can call me Lime! I am a self proclaimed Fandom Anthropologist! I believe fandoms are important enough to be studied and analyzed in a serious academic way. So that’s what this blog is about!

What is Fandom Anthropology? Simply put, it’s the study of Fandoms in an Anthropological context! The study of Fandom culture!

A bit about myself:

small question! can i ask what you consider a "proship" for your fic recommendations form? there seems to be a lot of different definitions and also i think proship is a stance on shipping, not a specific type of ship?? i just wanna know what exactly in a ship makes it not allowed thanks!

For me personally, I just use proship to define taboo ships (in*est and p*dophilia). I know that is not what proship means, but I frankly find the debate frustrating haha.

hey man (/gn) just a quick note you know that what you're calling proships... aren't actually proships, right? i know a lot of people nowadays think that proships are referring to problematic ships, but they're actually referring to, like, people who don't mind shipping, not necessarily people who write/read problematic ships

ships that have a problematic or controversial tinge are technically... i think darkship is the term? unsure but it's not proship

Proship is the more recognizable term, and the term has been warped so much it is simply easier to use terminology more people understand.

question, would you ever consider doing a video on pro/anti shipping? i've tried to research these terms but the more i have, the less they make sense to me as, they feel less well defined as even poorly defined fandom words like "Mary-sue".

so i dismissed these terms as just being apart of the petty side of fandom culture that come up with silly excuses to call a ship toxic, so they can pretend their hate for the ship is justified (even though you can dislike a "healthy ship" without a "valid" reason). but then i saw your fic request google doc and it mentioned not accepting proships, so i assume my impression of these terms are somehow wrong.

so i think it'd be great if there was a video that not only explained what these terms truly mean, but more importantly, why people outside of toxic ship discourse would use them. because i remember watching a video on anti/pro shipping but it more so was about why the terms are useless/bad, which definitely shaped my perception of these terms a lot.

with that said, i completely understand if you're not interested in making such a video as you have your own life to live so i don't expect you to make a video for a random tumblr anon /gen

To be honest I have actually considered at least having a section about it in a big video on shipping I plan to make. I think it’s a genuinely interesting topic especially from a psychological level. So yeah, it’s possible!
