'Stiles needs to leave scott for the hale pack becuase he is irresponsible and doesn't care about him-' stiles would unplug their life support to charge scott's phone
#shookspeare.
The biggest example of why the majority of teen wolf fandom doesn't have media literacy is that they genuinely believe the bite is a gift
People who say this are mostly toxic stiles stans in order to downplay scott trauma but if they actually watched the show instead of masturbating when stiles on screen they would actually realize that the bite ruined his life.
people say that becuase the bite made him good at lacrose and strong that means that he has no trauma when he's literally one of the people who suffered the most in this show. Lets review the list
He is attacked by a 30 yo man who bites him so he could have numbers for his vendetta which has nothing to do with him, said man then tries to make him kill his friends and also made him experience the memories of being burnt alive. Not to mention that s1 derek was a weirdo that was always lying and yelling at him.
He is always almost dying every 5 episodes becuase he is a werewolf and he has to shake it off or people will die. His enemies want to kill him becuase they view him as a threat even though he is just 16 and just wants to live.
His first girlfriend dies in his arms and his second one goes off in the desert to basically never some back, his mom is always in danger becuase his enemies like she is strangled by the kanima in s2,decalion holds her at gunpoint in s3 and HER HOUSE LITERALLY GETS SHOT UP BECUASE PEOPLE WANT TO KILL SCOTT and she ends up injured in the process. People like to feel bad for stiles becuase his dad almost died but it isn't the stilinski's household that needs to keep black ash around incase someone tried to kill them at night.
Worst of all SCOTT FUCKING DIES FOR 15 MINUTES and most of the damage is done by his own beta
'The relationship between an alpha and their beta is almost or even stronger than the relationship between parent and child' -Gerard
Imagine your own child almost killing you and you didn't fight back becuase you love him too much to hurt him.
Scott dies alone believing that everyone had abandoned him and that he failed to protect everyone WHICH ISNT EVEN HIS JOB HES A KID AND IS ONLY ONE PERSON
Til scotts last breath he will be hunted for existing
Stiles can run away from beacon hills but scott can't, it doesn't matter where he goes he can't outrun being a werewolf.
The way pack's in teen wolf have been shown to be stronger literally and metaphorically. The show literally screams 'Friendship is magic!' 'You can't do everything on your own' but somehow some people think that scott is 'holding stiles back from his full potential'

The way J lights up at the insult 🥰
P'New's portrayal of the intimacy within friendships my beloved.
In another world, Van would be sleeping on the couch or the floor, but not in this one. Because P'New is in charge of this one. So he's sleeping between his friends in what's probably Jinn's t-shirt while the three of them talk about his love life in the wee hours of the morning.
you know what i never see ppl talk abt? you know that fanon that stiles helped derek in the break between s2 and s3, and they became close? no one talks abt how, if that was true, stiles' suspicion and distrust of derek is now 10 times worse.
It has been quite a while since I received this ask, and I am sorry it has taken me so long to answer but the tempo of my life has sped up considerably in the last few months. However, I always intended to answer your question. Several events of this morning have brought me back to it.
First, there was a post-season 2 story -- not tagged as Scott Bashing because of course they don't tag that -- where Stiles yells at Scott that Scott must join a werewolf pack for reasons that are taken for granted and that Scott has been unaware of what has been happening in Stiles life because he's been too focused on Allison and hasn't asked Stiles if he was okay. Instead, the Hale Pack -- Derek, Isaac, Erica, Lydia, Jackson, and Boyd -- has had Stiles's back.
Think about that for a moment. Jackson and Lydia have joined Derek's pack in this story when they didn't in canon and no reason is given for it. Jackson who despises Stiles in canon; Isaac who despises Stiles in canon; Boyd who despises Stiles in canon; have all had Stiles's back and the only reason given is to demonstrate that Scott is a bad person. It requires just as much butchering of Stiles character, as if Stiles wouldn't have shown up in Scott's bedroom in the middle of the night if something went wrong.
Second, there is an illustration for a Sterek story in the Scott McCall tag of Tumblr which has Stiles ending his friendship with Scott because wants to keep out of danger because he's just human. It's here. Because everyone who is a fan of Scott McCall wants to see illustrated bashing.
Think about that for a moment. Only two people in the show disregarded and downplayed Stiles because he was human. The first was Derek Hale, in Second Chance at First Line (1x02) "You think your little buddy Stiles", in Chaos Rising (3x02) "Not you", in Riddled "skinny and defenseless" (3x18), and in Orphaned (4x06) "like a hyperactive spaz." The second was Stiles Stilinski, himself, who used his humanity as a defense for deception and hostility in Lies of Omission (5x09). "Some of us are human!"
These two examples arose from the same source as the headcanon that Stiles worked with Derek to look for Erica and Boyd over the summer. It comes from RACISM. It comes from the idea that Scott could not possibly be an appropriate lead protagonist and friend for Stiles Stilinski. How do I know this? Because Jackson Whittemore, who was far more hostile to Derek and Stiles in canon than Scott could ever possibly be, is so easily folded into the Hale Pack in order to support Stiles. If the author didn't like how Scott acted toward Stiles in the show, why didn't he change it if he was capable of changing how Jackson acted? Was Jackson less fixated on Lydia than Scott was on Allison in canon? Of all the scenes in that story that could have been illustrated, why did the artist choose that particular scene to illustrate? Because both of these are repudiations of the core concept of the show -- that Scott was the lead protagonist and he was a good person. The same with the head canon that drew your attention. The goal of that headcanon, as it is with the stories and the illustration, is not to expand on the relationship between Stiles and Derek -- because it doesn't actually fit with the actual canon way Stiles and Derek treat each other, unless you start to doubt everything about canon, especially how Stiles and Derek canonically thought about Scott. And that's the goal. They want to call the narrative into question because the show focused on a Latino hero and not the array of white male characters it should have been concentrating on.
I might be less confident in the conclusions I draw in this post if it hasn't been happening again and again and again in this fandom for 14 years. Fanfiction, meta, illustrations, and a general attitude arguing that they love Teen Wolf -- the would just love it more if it was about white people.

#fandom#fandom problems#i really thought people were just stupid/blind/didn't watch canon recently/watched canon through fanon lenz#but maybe I was wrong#it's just crazy to me that people would be racist and act like this bc of that#insane#as of poor media literacy wasn't enough#either way I'm so fuckin annoyed how they make “scott” in fics be this dude I don't know#like who is this douchebag???#my boy would never#and also#stiles also wouldn't!#like#when I want to read a ff I want more of those characters#not some strangers with those names#who are those people???#do you really like those characters if you have to change them so much???
Here's the thing... I feel that despite claiming him as their 'fave character', a lot of these socalled fans, genuinely do not like Stiles. In fact, I feel that a lot of them hate his actual canon traits. (it's esp. noticeable once you realize that a lot of the traits they push onto Scott in order to make him a 'bad friend', are exaggerated versions of traits Stiles and Derek do have in canon.
But they don't want to dislike Stiles, who is their white male self insert character.
So more often than not, they take traits they do like (many of which are actually Scott's canon traits) flattened out without any of the depth and flaws they come with in Scott and use them to turn Stiles into their Gary Stu... The person who represents them who gets to be with the hot (utterly flattened out) big bad Alpha Derek who is essentially turned into the dark broody oh so tragic anti hero...
I can almost guarantee that if Scott had been played by a white actor, and if Stiles were played by a non white actor...
the biggest ship in fandom would be scerek. Because the huge majority of sterek fanfic takes Scott and Derek's actual canon relationship, and transposes that upon Stiles and Derek.
It's almost rare to find sterek fics that have the two of them actually interact in a way they do in canon. And the thing is, if they did, those fics would actually be far more interesting, than the way the majority of sterek fics are actually written, because at least it'd be Stiles and Derek, and not just two stand ins who just happen to have the characters' names.
I love this meme
s5 scott doing everything he can to save everyone & be their personal sounding board DESPITE the gaslighting trauma betrayal chronic illness and literal death... u will always be famous 2 me...
"I can fix him" not in a "I can make him into a better person" way but in a "if he was my character I would've handled his story better" way
HIII HOWS EVERYTHING GOING?
HIII!!! <3 I'm doing alright. Currently my focus is split between working on some research and preparations for spooky season (I have reason to suspect one of my friends is putting our friend groups faces on tombstones). Other than that, just chilling mostly
Scott has a lot of scenes that set him apart from other TW characters as well as other protagonists of his genre, but I'm not kidding when I say this is the most important one to me:
(from 3x07: Currents)
he's bringing his mom dinner during a busy shift! that's not the point but it's adorable so i included it.
the point is, there's this injured woman in the ER. we don't know who she is, all we know is that she was in this massive car accident and she's in pain. but there's no doctor in the ER to treat her and Melissa can't do anything, medically, without knowing what's wrong.
but Scott can.
he sits down next to this woman he doesn't know, makes something up as an excuse to help, and takes her pain away.
and just. augh. her visible relief. the way she relaxes and then looks up at Scott like he's an angel. i kinda cut off the last couple seconds of her reaction and of course Scott doesn't get time to linger because another crisis happens, but that little moment is soooo important to me. at like 6 seconds left in the video, you can see him sort of squeeze his eyes shut for half a second as the pain hits (it's hard to see bc the camera's not on him), but when she's actually looking at him, he's projecting calm.
we don't get to see what happens to her, after that (we go straight into the crisis with Danny). this woman never shows up again, she's not even named in the script. but what we know is that in the middle of the worst day of her life, a boy she doesn't know reached out and offered her some relief.
and if that isn't the essence of Scott McCall right there...
i've seen the critique that Isaac is the first to use the pain-taking ability on screen and that we don't get to see Scott learning about it first, and to some extent I agree.
but man... i adore this scene as Scott's first time taking someone's pain on screen. it is SO important to me that it's not plot-relevant at all. you could cut this scene and have functionally the same episode plot-wise; it's purely a character moment to establish who Scott is at his core.
he gets no reward for helping this woman. he would face no consequences for not helping her. no one would know, and no one even sees him do it, but he still does. because she's in pain, and he can help. the way he does it, too, is so casual - just everything about the way the scene is framed, to me, reads like this is something he's done before, and will do again.
so often you get protagonists who are Good™ when the cameras are rolling, but you never get the sense that it continues into their everyday life.
Scott, on the other hand, gets so many moments like this. so many seemingly inconsequential moments where he tries to help just because he can.
this is only one of those moments, but I love that this one in particular is the first time we see him take someone's pain. and by virtue of its location (in the immediate lead-up to Scott becoming an Alpha), it really drives home the point that this is who Scott is. this is who he's deciding to be in the midst of the chaos and violence of the life he's been thrown into, and that is how he earns his True Alpha status.
i love him. what a character.
Rooftop Vigils
Whatever you might think of my "aggressive" attacks on Anti-Scott Sterek and Steter shippers, you have to remember how absolutely aggressive they have been when it comes to twisting the narrative of the show to make Scott a terrible person.
If you listen to them, you will think that Scott obsessed over Allison in Season 1, and one of their favorite pieces of evidence is Scott "stalking" Allison by hanging out on her roof. They take one particular instance of that behavior in Formality (1x11) and they describe it as a habit, and a particularly damning one. This is why they think he's a bad friend to Stiles, because the scene before it, he disagrees with Stiles as Stiles is expressing his desire to see Derek dead, but somehow also use it to show Scott's hostility to Derek, because he states he needs Derek to stop Peter from hurting Allison.
This appears in content all the time. Think of the number of shitty Sterek/Steter shippers who have their Fanon Stiles scold Scott for "stalking" Allison and neglecting what he should be paying attention to. But this requires them to forget the menacing scene at the beginning of the episode where Deaton protects Scott from Peter. On his way out of the Animal Clinic, Peter delivers the same threat he and Derek delivered in the locker room when they violated Scott physically and mentally.
Peter: There are other people who can help me get what I want, Scott. More innocent and far more vulnerable.
Scott: Allison.
So, Scott's not mooning on top of Allison's roof because he likes to sniff her hair (though I'm sure he does); he's doing it to protect her. Peter has threatened Allison directly, and he is not going to stop; he will creep on her at the mall later that same episode. Yes, there's humor in the scene because he falls asleep and falls off the roof.
But this is why people thinking Scott is a terrible character, because they've twisted his desire to protect his innocent girlfriend who has no idea about werewolves or the Hale Fire, from a deranged serial killer who has already threatened him and everyone he cares about. And then they call him a bad student because his grades suffer because he has to do this.
And they know that the production meant this to be heroic. They know it. Turning what the production meant into the opposite is the same thing they do when they insist "Scott is a terrible friend!" to Stiles, but will not -- most likely cannot -- explain what they mean by that. But they do know that Scott protecting his girlfriend from a hot white man who wants to murder her is not what he should be doing.
Damn right, I'm aggressive.
#wait do people not know scott was scrambling to protect allison from peter ??? #peter went after stiles he went after melissa he successfully attacked lydia. scott is trying his damndest to keep allison away from that #but we can’t hate him for liking her so much he wants to be with her when he knows it might endanger her either. #he’s just a kid who’s been attacked physically altered w/out his permission and manipulated in the span of weeks/months #people seem to forget scott is 15 here. and the jokes about him failing classes are so ? bc who wouldn’t fail classes in his situation #and i don’t wanna hear anything about how stiles wasn’t or anything like that. stiles was going through hard times too yes of course #and that would’ve obviously had repercussions for him #but scott was still going through the changing when these things happened. his instincts were going crazy he was anxious and worried always #but he was also struggling with the realisation he can DO SOMETHING about it all. and so that’s what he was trying to do. help his friends. #and that’s all he ever tried to do. help keep people safe.
in other news. heres blorbo from my shows
people who have no idea they're actually quite normal: Omg I was the first one to pass out at the party and my wacky unhinged feral friends drew a dick on my face! This is so crazy and has probably never happened to anyone else before. people who have no idea they're fucking weird: Yeah I was the first one to pass out at the party and one of my friends drew a face on my dick. I know it had to be someone who knew the unlocking code of my chastity cage but that doesn't narrow it down much. We've all been there, right?
