y'all I'm so certain the biodome is about a kilometer/0.62 miles in diameter (they filmed on location at Durdle Door, so I'm pretty sure that cliff thing with the mini arch at the other end of the beach is supposed to be Bat's Head). assuming the ocean takes up half the area Grace has almost a hundred fucking acres of space to run around in. For context, Biosphere 2 a 3.14 acre surface area and only a fraction of that was used for human habitation

like imagine you're Ryland Grace and for the past 4ish years you've been living in a tin can with only the vague conception of a slightly larger tin can as your future home, and then after like, idk a couple months, maybe an earth year, your best friend in the universe pulls up like "grace home is ready, statement" and internally you're like "OK cool time to go see my next set of walls I'll be staring at for the rest of my life" and you get there and he made you two hundred acres (and half of that is actually navigable by you) of a biome that's not just your favorite, but he picked it because the first thing you told him about it is that it's always changing

These are your tools: scissors, knife, big needle, fishing wire/other sturdy thread

Make shape of carapace, cut five pieces of foam for leggies. Make all five shape of leggies (boring)

Thread fishing line through needle and attach to carapace where the leg should go

Cut leggie in half, thread through needle to thread in carapace. Leggie can stay whole, but then your puppet has a bit less movement. My Things, Rocky and Prism puppets have all 5 movable limbs. Puppet Big(Small) Steppa has only two movable limbs, cause they're canonically a bit more stiff

Do the leggie thing four more times (boring).

Put a rod in each of the front legs. A glue gun may help with this.

Figure out how your puppet moves, what its personality is. I think this one is a bit of a princeling, so they're a bit stiff and uptight. They want you to kiss their claw.

The puppet version of Prism, an Eridian OC by @sharkfiinn, is in frame but at a distance. Prism is a small puppet, about the size of a hand, with bismuth-like colouring and patterns.

Prism shakes as the video starts, and stays close to the puppeteer. The puppeteer nudges Prism forward, after which Prism shyly approaches the camera and does a little wave. Then Prism seems to startle slightly.

Something something Erid is a high-pressure, no light planet with liquid water and bioluminescent, lure-based, energy efficient ocean creatures could develop; something something Eridians have close to no spatial memory and therefore worse scale? memory; something something Eridians are the apex land predator specifically.

(All that, and I forgot the suit. Ah well. Point is, they deserve a buddy comedy ending.)

so i've recently gotten into project hail mary and saw people making some fucked up eridians, and in the dead of night the muses had struck me with some form of divine inspiration.

Yesterday I was looking through my bead because I wanted to do some bracelets or charms for PHM since, as you know, I am currently obsessed. And I found these two bags of natural looking beads I bought ages ago:

And obvioulsy my first thought was It's Rocky and Adrian!

So I got to work. First I made a Rocky charm for the big project I was cooking up:

(It is an interpretation, okay? I know you have to be very imaginative to get it. I wanted to mix both the book and the movie designs into one but I had the resources I had and this is what came out, but I love him anyway)

But then I indulged myself and made tiny rocky and tiny adrian to put on my shelf and guys... They are just so freaking cute!

I love them so much I might actually cry!

Eridian Regional Groups

There are 5 large Regional groups divided by the place of their origin. They have their own dialects, structure and cultural customs.

Mountain Eridians- silicone/silicate based, they're carapaces are angular, lighter in terms of weight and have more crystallite growth than other Groups. They produce high-frequency, chime-like sounds as a form of their dialect.

I headcanon Adrian to be Mountain Eridian.

Ground Eridians- originate from deep vents and cracks lined with minerals, so their carapaces are mostly sulfide and mineral based. They're dense, dark in colouration and smaller than most Eridian Groups due to limited space in the Cracks. They produce very low resonating pitches.

Coastal Eridians- Found by the coats of Flows (their equivalent of water bodies). They're mostly made of vanadium or phosphate, their carapaces are smooth and worn down into oblique curves. Their dialect is very flowy and wavering in lengths and pitches.

Crystal Eridians- come from Crystal Plains, their carapaces are made up of different types of quartz's, they're geometric in shape, all angular lines and reflective surfaces. The Crystal dialect is very complexly tonal and it has almost musical properties. Closest to actual human songs an Eridian can get.

Vulcanic Eridians- From Vulcanic Plateau, their carapaces are made of dense basaltic rock, the colour varies in shades of brown, though it's usually on the darker end of the spectrum. The surface is rough and 'unremarkable'. Their Language is the golden standard, mid-range and practical, usually broadly spoken, equivalent to human English.
