Hello starlight ~
First Nations leaders are raising concerns about the quality of care Indigenous people get in Manitoba after the chief of Little Grand Rapid
First Nations leaders are raising concerns about the quality of health care their citizens receive after the chief of a northern Manitoba First Nation waited in pain for about 13 hours at a Winnipeg hospital last month. Little Grand Rapids First Nation Chief Clinton Keeper, a cancer survivor, recently needed emergency medical care after experiencing complications from a kidney stone that obstructed his urinary tract, the Southern Chiefs' Organization said in a news release last week. He was assessed, hospitalized and eventually discharged, but his condition got worse and he returned to Grace Hospital in Winnipeg by ambulance on June 22, Keeper said at a Wednesday press conference in Ottawa, where leaders are gathered for the Assembly of First Nations' Annual General Assembly.

all those posts that are like "why am i researching currency debasement in the 1860s for a fanfiction no one is going to care" are full of shit, i just DNFd a fic for being obviously incorrect about the history of plumbing
my people have found me.
just got a double whammy of the most annoying comments i get on this post back to back in my notes (1. this is going to give authors anxiety!!! 2. but you CAN get tenure by 35!!!), so everyone say bye bye post for another several months
post unlocked because i just dnf'd the project hail mary book due to andy weir's 'rocky thinks in base six' inconsistencies.
if rocky thinks and estimates in base six round numbers and then converts to base ten for ryan gosling's sake (established early!! basically one of the first things ryan gosling works out!), then he would not suggest that they jump from 80 to 86 when rounding up for safety, because neither of those are base six round numbers. he would suggest jumping to a safety allowance of 84 (220 in base six) or 90 (230 in base six).
after much furious consideration while driving to the grocery store after making this post i have decided that i would also have accepted 87 (213 in base six, but halfway between those two round numbers—equivalent to numbers ending in 5 in base 10)

A Psalm for the Wild-Built.
(I think we need something summery and positive. I’d highly recommend Becky Chamber’s Monk & Robot series of books; a solarpunk dream with a healthy mix of philosophical journeys.)
I told my little nephew that I'd wave at his airplane when it flew over my house today, and he very calmly and politely explained that it wouldn't be possible to see me due to the limitations of human vision. I said he just had to squint real hard, and he took a deep breath and went into the toddler version of "see, what you're not understanding–"
it is actually haunting me that I forgot to wave. if he looked out the airplane window, he wouldn’t have seen me…..
Go outside and wave real quick. He can not see you from wherever he is just as well as he could not see you from his plane. It's still nothing, nothing will change, but a process would occur.

I want to see the vampire who lives in this. I bet his name is Chad or Hunter.

im realizing very fast that people do not in fact know that sometimes things in stories suck on purpose and it sucking is the point
"this story is misogynistic!!"
>looks inside
>about the pressures of societal misogyny and how its bad
i think one of the best parts about being a teenager in the early to mid 2010s was that cigarettes were definitely not cool anymore and vapes hadn’t popularized yet so my lungs made it out of my peak impressionable years relatively unscathed

On of the less intuitive things about love, I've found, of any kind, is the importance of needing things.
I didn't realize it until recently, but I've always seen love as something requiring sacrifice, selflessness, patience, and generosity- to ask for nothing is to be the best person I can be, small and quiet and never in the way, always happy and helpful, self-sufficient and present when desired.
It's only as an adult, now, that I'm beginning to see the selfishness of wanting nothing.
I cut my friend's hair in my kitchen the other day. They wanted a trim and I had the skills, so I offered, and was genuinely excited when they stopped hesitating over "bothering me" and took me up on it. It was a peaceful afternoon, and we had tea and chatted for an hour or more.
My brother and I shared popcorn at the movies a while ago. When I came time to pay, I pulled my card out like a wild western sheriff and slapped it on the machine before he could fight me for it first. The satisfaction was delightful.
Someone called me crying on the phone the other day. Kept apologizing for disturbing me at work, talking about how they were bothering me on my lunch break. I was telling the truth when I told them that really, I was flattered and honored and relieved, knowing that if they were hurting I would know, that I didn't have to worry in silence. It felt good to hear them slowly come down, and to know that they knew it would be better soon, and to hear them laugh wetly on the other end. We're getting together for a visit next week.
It's hard to need things, if you've trained yourself not to. It's hard to want things, when you don't know how to want anymore. Trusting people is difficult, and so is relying on them, but I don't know where I'd be without the people who rely on me.
I've heard a lot of people say, "Nobody will love you unless you love yourself". I've had a lot of thoughts about it. It's not right, but it's not wrong, either, I think.
"Nobody will love you unless you love yourself"... I've always taken that to mean, "You will not be lovable until you develop a positive view of yourself as a person".
Now, I think it's sort of inside-out.
"Nobody will love you unless you love yourself"... because nobody can show their love to you in a way that you can accept until you treat yourself kindly, and learn what you need, and what you want, and how to ask for it, and then give that vulnerability away.
Love, for me, is someone I ask for a ride to the airport. Whether they end up doing this or not is irrelevant.
It's not needy, or selfish, or taking up energy. It's giving the gift of being wanted, and needed, and thought of. It's giving someone the security of being part of someone's life.
okay the odyssey has been out for a day im readyto start discourse
