Some things I wanna make clear because I’m seeing some said repeatedly in the reblogs:
- I’m no longer friends with Friend 2 and I haven’t been for a while, at least couple months. Most of my friend group cut off contact with him too (including Friend 1) after many situations that just made him look creepy, including not being able to set any boundaries (most tries ended up with him throwing a tantrum)
- a big chunk of people is suggesting polyamory in the reblogs, but I wouldn’t expect him to get even one gf, let alone two, given how he finds scared women hot and his favorite trope is “reversed mommy” situation (punishing the woman for dominating you)
- lots of people are also suggesting it’s an egg kinda situation, and I obviously can’t say yes or no to that, but I wanna mention how he once said he wouldn’t mind bottoming for a trans girl and how it’s one of the reasons he considers himself bi. Do with that info what you want
- Friend 1 is trans. Also we’re friends to this day and I love hanging out with her, she’s a diva
- I made that comic because I randomly remembered this situation and I suddenly realized this was the first time in my life when I felt like my identity was being fetishized right in front of me. That’s just my personal opinion though
Are we proud of ourselves, this month? Are we pleased that we slandered a bi man interested in queer romance as evil for wanting to see people like himself in a beloved body of work?
Are we happy that "I would like more complex queer rep" was reduced to "fetishizing lesbianism"? Are we excited that "I identify with queer womanhood but feel excluded by my sexuality" was turned into "this guy deserves a laundry list of dubious ad hominem attacks"?
You want me to sit here, listening to some cis woman talk about how she felt attacked and sexually harassed by a bisexual man saying "heterosexual romance excludes my perspective, and so does queer romance, and I would like to see myself reflected back for once."
She felt so threatened by a bi man daring to want to be seen as his whole self that she made a callout comic to drag him, and to make sure that any bi men who see it know that they, too, are unwelcome because of their sexuality and gender.
You may have trans friends, but rest assured you're not a trans ally. You may have bi friends, but you are not a bi ally.
You saw a queer man asking to be seen and had the temerity to not only shame him for it, not only isolate him from the rest of your queer friend group in fucking Poland, but then to sexually harass him in public by speculating on his gender and publicizing his sexual preferences.

Encountered an unfamiliar word (“yuri”)
Decided not to learn what this word meant (by typing it into a search bar and reading the first result)
Decided to completely ignore the existence of this word when processing the information from the comic
Decided to loudly and confidently have an opinion based on this incomplete information.
This is very bad!
This is not illiteracy, which can be fixed through learning. This is aliteracy or antiliteracy. One has to actively decide not to learn anything and to persist in being wrong to do this.
It would benefit all of us on tumblr to try to avoid falling into this trap. Even if we’re pretty sure we know what a word means in a post we don’t agree with, we can still look it up just to confirm before we spout off and make claims! And if we aren’t familiar with a trope, term, or historical figure, we can look them up to better understand what a post is saying.
This is the exact same practice and habit that also lets us remember to do fact-checking. If I see a claim, it would be easy to just believe it and start acting accordingly or parroting it to everyone else. But in order to be a functional, informed citizen, I HAVE to stop and think, where is this claim coming from? How do I know it’s right? Can I easily verify that it’s true?

Listen, you can moan all you want about semantics, but the fact of the matter is that the layperson considers chemosensory indicators and pheromones to be the same thing, and when it overlaps with kink they're usually talking about the former and calling it the latter.
Going "well TECHNICALLY" about pheromones being specifically the kind of thing that leads to ants running around in circles until they die is at best going to yield an "oh, neat" before they go back to talking about wolf pheromones for a really simple reason:

the 1939 movie fuses glinda and the witch of the north (the witch of the north is the person who greets her in munchkinland while glinda only appears at the end) and wicked goes with that while also expanding the worldbuilding which is disorienting. like it was condensed bc the balance of witches in oz doesn't matter to the main plot really but now that the witches are central the absense of a cardinal-direction witch is confusing
glinda in the books is the most powerful magic user in oz. when the wizard is revealed to be a fraud dorothy goes on a quest to seek out glinda because she's ACTUALLY powerful. glinda eventually takes the wizard under her wing and teaches him some real magic so he's no longer a fraud (redemption arc!) and there's a scene where he does some magic for ozma and dorothy and they're like "great job!!!" and he's all like well i suck actually glinda's the REAL deal. so you can imagine how jarring it is to see glinda do zero magic for an entire movie
i think that's the core of my resentment actually. it has this whole "this is the REAL story about the unfairly maligned woman" thing going on but oz was female-led to begin with. you're not subverting anything by saying that a woman is powerful and trying to unmask a fraud. that was already part of the story. it's a good story on its own but i like when aus are actually trying to have a meaningful conversation with the original and this really isn't

honestly i need people to step back and critically think about AI and come to their own conclusions about it all, instead of just nodding along with what people are pushing onto others. one is very entitled to their own opinions, no matter if they're more positive or negative, but the current state of discussions around all this is dire.
i'm admittedly critical of AI art, at least when it comes to the current capitalist environment we live in where companies want to cut their artists from the workforce (i'm also absolutely on the side of copyright abolishment, but i feel like in our capitalist society people should really get compensation for their work being used to train AI if they desire it). but the thing is that this opinion is my own, which i came to with my own research and thought on the issue instead of being bullied into absolutely despising AI. and im open to learning more and changing my opinions! i just wish others online were, because i feel like even my opinions are too radical for most people right now
i feel like the past 15 or so years of internet discourse unfortunately prepped us for this in the worst way possible. a lot of social spaces on the web currently are highly polarized by what one's political and moral beliefs are, steamrolled down into 10 letters or less terminology.
proship/antiship is the biggest example, and is also the template for the structure of "if you are/aren't against xyz, you're a bad person" that gets copy-pasted onto as many issues as possible, in order to easily maintain social homogeny. opting out, either due to a lack of information or a belief in nuance, is seen as just as bad as taking a side or even worse, as the polarization is so concentrated that people cannot see a lack of participation as anything but hidden support of the Wrong side from their pov.
it's a shame, because it did seem like we were gradually moving out of that black & white thinking, but i'm starting to see it a lot more frequently again; just applied to different structures.
I'm honestly so tired of seeing ai hate everywhere its so hard to block out...im honestly scared to say that im not anti ai and that im pretty neutral on it (and occasionally use chatbots for fun) and I'm afraid that I will get hate and loose friends for it...
Idk it just feels like ppl keep spreading misinformation about it and have very knee jerk reactions to it and won't even hear you out if you try to tell them its not inherently evil and the problem isnt individuals using gen ai for fun..
i see the sentiment that people are scared to say they're not anti-ai pretty frequently. my suggestion would be to seek out more ai-friendly places so you don't have to worry as much about it! that's why i made this blog myself; i wanted to have a space to talk about ai without worrying about what other people thought.
