you helped me realize with your thoughtful post on why trans women can't be lesbians what bothers me about trans male presentation and approach to "womanhood." whether or not they're autogynephiles and are sexually motivated by it, the vast majority of them fetishize women/this idea of girl/womanhood that is manufactured by patriarchy. I'm assuming they are incapable of fully empathizing with us. this whole time i couldnt put my finger on it.
I mean, how would they know? They were not socialized as women. And because they were socialized as men, they donât listen to us. All they got is media and porn, so thatâs what they base their idea of womanhood on. And we know these depictions of us are neither flattering nor true, but again, they wonât listen to us.
I mean, how many trans women do you know that have a deep, sincere admiration for a woman and want to be like her. And I mean a real woman, someone they actually know in person, not like, Lady Gaga or something.
I'm not trying to pick a fight, just confused. Like, if a trans girl has fully transitioned and only interested in women, can't they call themselves a lesbian? If not, what should they calm themselves? I get lesbians not being into people with dicks of course but like, no dicks involved. It's all confusing
First of all, thanks for being respectful. People have been to quick to insult.
So I think one of the issues here is the common portrayal of femaleness and womanhood as the absence of male characteristics. Surgical removal of male genitals is not the same as having a vulva. Same way that surgically bifurcating your tongue doesnât make you able to perceive the presence of molecules in the air through your Jacobsonâs Organ like a snake.
Mor than that, being a lesbian is not simply about the absence of penis. Males love to try to define and categorize women according to whether they will fuck them or not, but being a lesbian is about being female AND being exclusively attracted to other female people, and genitals are not all that matter. Lesbians connect to other women in great part because we have the shared experience of living through the world as female. We were socialized in a similar manner. We have this non-verbal understanding that comes from years of living in a world that has certain expectations from you since you were born. And as much as it might be painful to admit that, there are some things that trans women will never understand. Trans women, being born and raised male through their formative years, have a second-hand understanding of what it is to be a woman, which leads to some really unnatractive behaviors, like forced over-the-top hyperfemininity and infantile mannerisms, as well as male-socialized behaviors they donât even like to admit they have, like sexual entitlement, dominating posturing, talking over people, threatening violence and the complete inability of taking criticism.
Female-born people learn womanhood by being beaten over the head with it from the time we were born. From the disappointment of your father because youâre not a boy, to having your ears pierced before youâre even old enough to sit up by yourself, to having lower expectations about your potential. We were forged into womanhood, and it hurts. It break us. But it gives us a sort of resilience too, a kind of unwyelding bravery that only women have. The kind of exhausted defiance that you only get by going out every single day into a world that thinks you should be confined indoors, by coming home late at night every day knowing that if something happens to you everyone is gonna say itâs your fault. It takes a lifetime to acquire this resilient quality. Talk to a really old woman sometime, listen to her. They get to a certain age where they reach a breaking point and stop giving a shit about what anyone else thinks, and itâs amazing. This is why male supremacy has historically been afraid of old women.
Trans women, on the other hand, learn womanhood by emulating what they think women are, and this perception is invariably male-biased. Trans women want to emulate porn stars and pop divas. Never seen one of them say they learned to be a woman by watching their mother. None of them want to be one of those tired working women on the train at 9PM, sleep deprived and with sore feet, who are just leaving work and thinking that theyâre gonna have to get home and make dinner and clean the kitchen and bathe the kids and then try to get some sleep to start it all over again tomorrow. No, they wanna be BeyoncĂ©. They wanna be glamorous superstars, without realizing that thereâs nothing glamorous about being a woman. And boy, they get SO pissed when you point this out. They just donât get it, and they donât even want to.
And this is why trans women cannot be lesbians. Not only they are not female homosexual individuals - the actual definition of what is a lesbian - but they also lack the life experience and outlook that would make them interesting to a lesbian.
Iâll leave you with a question here. Why donât these trans women who are attracted to women date each other instead of bothering women who are clearly not interested? Why do they consider that theyâre good enough for us, but they donât consider other trans women good enough for them? Why should we settle for âuh at least thereâs no dickâ when they require a legit vulva in their relationship?
And why are we lesbians always the ones who have to be flexibilizing our boundaries and scuffling around to make everyone happy in detriment of our own needs and wants?
Think about that.
this is the best explanation i have ever read about anything ever.
Things Men Who Want To Support Feminism Need To Do:
stop watching porn
stop using slurs against women
speak out against these things
refuse to laugh at sexist jokes, even when no women around
stop telling sexist jokes, even when no women around
talk about women you admire (for non-sexual reasons) to other men
refuse to participate in âratingâ women
vote for representatives who will make womenâs rights a priority
when you see a woman being ignored or spoken over, say, âI think she had something to say, and I would like to hear it.â
give women credit for our ideas and accomplishments, make sure to voice appreciation for womenâs contributions often taken for granted
stop asking women to do menial things you can do for yourselfâexample, Terry Crews got himself a purse because he realized he was always asking his wife to hold things for him
if you are straight or bi, educate yourself on the female body. read the Vagina Monologues, etc..
consume media with female main characters, normalize the idea of relating to and empathizing with womenâs experiences

'legislation has never stopped males from raping & murdering female people" correct! criminal cis dudes would break into womens bathrooms either way. this is something we have to stop, but it's irrelevant to trans people. so why are you so upset about them?
if you donât think that changing the specifications for who is allowed in sex segregated spaces and basing it on self-identification no matter biology or appearance wonât be immediately taken advantage of by âcriminal cis dudesâ, you are incredibly naive. believe it or not, iâve been in public bathrooms with transwomen way more than once! was i comfortable? no. was it the biggest deal in the world? also no. transwomen have been coming into female only spaces pretty much the entire time. legislation hasnât prevented that. making boundaries clear hasnât prevented that. when genderists say âit was never about bathroomsâ, theyâre right. this isnât really about bathrooms, itâs about the category female no longer meaning anything and sex segregated spaces which statistically prevent male violence no longer being an option. itâs about male people having the legal right to be in any legally determined female only space, group, organization, whatever and female people do not have a say.
name one native american intellectual off the top of your head, name one native american actor or actress off the top of your head, name one native american senator, one native american news anchor, or an author or a tv personality or a singer or a poet or a comedian, name a single native american teacher youâve had, can you? probably notÂ
ok so now think of one native american cartoon character you know of or a sports team relating to native americans whether itâs their actual name or their team logo, or a town you live in or near with a ânativeâ name bet a lot of these things came to you right away i bet you didnât even have to thinkÂ
needing native representation in media, education and government are not decoy issues, the commercialization and appropriation of native cultures are not decoy issues, the lack of native representation is institutional oppression at workÂ
i think being realistic about the incredibly dire probably unfixable state of the world is healthy if you also realize that it doesnât cancel out the personal change you can make in your lifetime & the personal connections you can form. the people you can help, your own actions & words that you can control, the principles you can hold. i canât save the world, i canât fix patriarchy, but i can love my sisters. thatâs what i have and i find it to be enough in a pretty magnificent & beautiful way
One thing that makes me sad is that women are taught that being a victim of something is something to be ashamed of, something that you must deny because it would mean you are somehow weak or inferior. I wish for all girls and women to know and feel: when you are subjected to something and made a victim of something, no shame or blame should be put on you. You can be strong and still be a victim of something. You can have agency and pride and self love and still be a victim of something. Itâs also important to remember that in this world, there are forces that rob us of our agency, possibility to choose, our freedom, our sense of ourselves, our self love. What robs us is not the acknowledgment of us being victims of something. Being a victim does not mean youâre weak; it means something or someone has victimized you.
it was better when people thought feminist was a Scary Word than now that itâs become absolutely meaningless and people who watch porn and hate lesbians are considered progressive
âIn the United States, 98% of those who commit mass shootings are male; 98% of the officers who have shot and killed civilians are male; 90% of those who commit homicide by any means are male; and 80% of those arrested for all violent crimes â murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault â are male.â

a woman: hi, how are you?
a man: hm. see I wouldnât have phrased it exactly like that. I might have said âhelloâ or perhaps âsalutations.â but the way you said it is cute though.
You are aware this is just as sexist as the things people say about women, correct?
a woman: you ever notice men speak to women like we are beneath them and constantly police our language and appearance?
a man: hm. i know you, poor thing, are blissfully unaware of the difficulty that text posts put us (men, or âmales,â depending on the colloquial) through. let me explain in the follow paragraph how we can effectively ignore institutionalized and global sexism because this post personally called me, a man, out for my degrading behavior. see, this sort of witty and harmless observation is sexist,
