good things will happen 🧿
things that are meant to be will fall into place 🧿
THIS ONE FUCKING WORKS. REBLOG IT.
i spent the previous 5 days in a mental hospital bc my brain does alarming things sometimes
on one of my last nights, I was being assessed by a nurse who I had met like 2 hours ago and she asked how my delusion (that I knew was probably wrong but still found compelling) that I was in another universe, or that i was in my home state was going
i was like it’s going strong thanks for asking!
she asked if i’ve had recent stress and i said not really, and summarized the past few weeks including important projects at work, visiting family, and a significant problem with one of my employees.
she gave me a look of COMPLETE DISBELIEF and said “you’re a supervisor? is that for real?”
i said “yes i’m the director of a program so I have–”
“what? is that for real? are you sure that’s real?”
HEY GUESS WHAT
HEY GUESS WHAT
HEY GUESS WHAT SHE SAID NEXT
“do they know you’re in a mental hospital?” in a tone that suggested they would be way uncool with it
i responded that yes they did and they were very supportive, and it would be illegal if they weren’t
if mental health professionals treating us believe were are categorically incapable of holding the jobs we want, of leading the lives we want, where the fuck does that leave us
other patients had asked “what are you going to do now?” when i referenced having job, and were surprised when i said i wasn’t getting fired. And i know why, I know that multiple people at the table with me had lost jobs in the course either before or while they were there, and it was just the most recent of many. they weren’t okay with this, but still considered it the way things just go.
we internalize this shit
i hope i’m repeating a message you’ve seen all the time, and i hope it’s not arrogant to hold myself as a case study. i am a young professional who lives alone, has 2 jobs and is very nice to be around most of the time. i have bipolar 1 with psychosis and severe OCD. do you want to be linkedin buddies?
and even if i weren’t all these things, i would still have inherent worth and dignity and not have to earn the right be understood as a person capable of many things who should be in our world
hi hey hello this post has been made before but please try not to make fun of people for their autistic traits such as
• telling the same joke/ wanting to have the same conversation over and over again
• not having much coordination and having a tough time doing “easy” things like tying shoelaces
• having trouble understanding what you mean and needing lots of clarification
• needing things to be broken down into little steps
• having extremely high or extremely low empathy
• getting very attached to things like inanimate objects
there are a lot more but these are just ones i haven’t seen mentioned before!! feel free to add on if u think of anything else
difficulty with emotional regulation
difficulty with facial expressions and body language(both their own and others’)
trouble with volume control
stimming(which could be ANYTHING from listening to music to playing with hair to chewing on things and more. if it stimulates the senses then it can be a stim!)
having a forcibly limited palate due to hypersensitivity(for god’s sake stop with the ‘picky eater’ jokes it was never funny)
hypersensitivity issues in general
talking a lot about special interests(if you need to take a break it’s okay to take a break, but it is NOT okay to belittle or make fun of us when chances are we’re just trying to share something we love with someone we love! too much of that and we’ll shut down and not speak to you about our interests ever again.)
not understanding jokes/sarcasm
having an ‘unusual’ speaking style
‘quoting’ things(communication is HARD! sometimes we need to take shortcuts and use someone else’s words)
trouble with making eye contact or appearing to engage with you(we listen. we really do. it just doesn’t always look the way you expect it to.)
having trouble with sudden changes
meltdowns(it is way worse for us than it is for you)
overthinking things
what IS okay: to set boundaries! you deserve to feel safe and comfortable too
what is NOT okay: to make autistic people feel uncomfortable, unsafe, or hated. no mean jokes(even if we joke about ourselves). no insults. no ‘why are you like this?!’ because we can’t fucking help it, thanks ever so much
Your periodic reminder that in people who have been subject to threats and punishment for having emotional responses or ‘inappropriate’ facial expressions, panic attacks look different.
They may look like the person has become calmer and less involved, dismissive, even. Some people become intensely subservient and silent. Some become catatonic.
Panic doesn’t always involve screaming, crying, and obvious signs of distress. It involves an extreme form of the person’s fear response – which can be altered by circumstance, ability, and what they’ve learnt to fear.
Which is to say, it’s not your place to decide someone isn’t having a panic attack, when they’ve told you that’s what’s happening.
Yes, absolutely this. I get quiet and withdrawn when I’m having a panic attack. A quiet panic attack is still a panic attack.
a few years ago there was an exposé in the intercept about how, according to the fbi, police departments are so thoroughly infiltrated by white supremacists that it's policy to avoid working with them when possible. just something to think about
Bureau policies have been crafted to take into account the active presence of domestic extremists in U.S. police departments.
I found the article and... jesus christ.
yeah, the FBI put out a report that showed active purposeful infiltration of both the military and police by white supremacists. The FBI included a list of steps to take in order to help prevent this including things like updated lists of identifying tattoos and specific screening measures. The military said fuck we thought we were getting them all, thank you, and started implementing all the recommended procedures almost immediately.
The U.S. Police Union wrote the FBI back a letter that basically said “fuck you you can’t tell us who we can and can’t hire” and then the funding for that FBI investigation got suddenly yanked.
Also, holy shit read the article; it is very thorough
The police really don't like the FBI, because the FBI has a habit of exposing their bullshit. And they got no problems with exposing their bullshit. And they will try and work around the local police because they're aware of how shitty local police can be. For, like, everything.
Have some random shitty killjoys memes i made
The first pride was a riot, more specifically a riot against police violence. Trans women like Miss Major and other people of colour paved the way for the celebration of pride today. You cannot celebrate your pride this month, or any month if you aren’t also supporting Black Lives Matter and the riots going on against police violence right now. Us white LGBTQ+ need to stand up for our black siblings and their rights, their struggles. We need to amplify their voices and show any support we can. I did another post on this topic last year, but I thought it could use an update with some more books! And yes, the last post had people repeatedly adding on queer books by white people, so I’m a bit salty about it.

When possible, I’m linking to my database of queer books. The page for each book includes the synopsis, content warnings under spoiler tags, and links to reviews from queer readers. If it’s not in the queer database at the time of posting (8/24/19), I’ll link to Goodreads instead.

Video Transcription from user @/lelegenevieve on TikTok: “If you’ve been supporting the Black Lives Matter movement or are looking for ways to support, please stop scrolling and signal boost this video. I’ve been coding—pretty tirelessly—everyday for my website pb-resources.com. It’s an education tool and resource I’ve been using to compile information to fight police brutality and white supremacy. There are calls to action, educational tools, and different places to donate. Today I added this section that allows you to input your information and send automated emails; and everything is filled out for you. It was also really important that for me to adds way to support the Black trans community. And in a few days, the website will be generating ad revenue and 100% of the proceeds will be donated; so all you have to do is visit the site to support BLM. Lastly, I’ve been asking you guys to follow me on Instagram (@/alexisdenisew) so I can hit 10k and get the swipe up update and I’m almost there. So if you haven’t already, go follow.”
If anyone with experience with audio transcription formatting would like to repost this with a better transcript, please do, my experience is limited.

Convergent evolution is wild, bc like, crabs keep evolving to look the same but aren’t closely related, nature is just like: BIG MEATY CLAWS, little legs, pincers, head, tiny eyes, let’s do it again!
and trees look the same but oak trees are more closely related to rose bushes than they are pine trees, fucked up
nature just likes these damns shapes:
but on the other hand, mammals flying with powered flight?? That shit only happened ONCE and it had to do some janky shit to get there, especially with bat immune systems
like bat’s immune systems are HYPER-POWERED as well as repress most of their inflammatory reactions because in order to fly they needed a bonkers-high metabolic rate which unfortunately also create waste products from the process called “free radicals” that damage cells
however, despite these free radicals they manage to live up to FORTY YEARS, which is super long for a species their size, because their immune system are basically always ON and in an anti-viral state that make them incubators for disease due to warfare between their jacked immune systems and disease
bats are so gdamn weird, I love them, no other mammal has been able to copy off their homework and accomplish the same shape, and for that they are the anti-crab of the natural world, God bless
In like, seven years we’re gonna see a question on some bio-exam: 1. Bats are the opposites of Crabs. EXPLAIN:
