Fret not, for here comes my newest fic, "Until we meet again, dearest friend", that will be revealed on the 6th of September with the rest of the TRSB collabs.

Glorfindel/Ecthelion, rated M for violence and (mostly) to veer on the side of caution, with over 52k words spanning 400 years from the arrival of the Noldor to Vinyamar all the way to the Fall of Gondolin.

Starring: Half-Vanya Impostor Syndrome Incarnated Glorfindel of the Golden Flower, Sinda Aroace Ecthelion of the Fountain, Hyperactive Duilin of the Swallow, Tsundere Egalmoth of the Heavenly Arch, Gossip-girl Idril Celebrindal, Crying Wet Cat Maeglin Lómion, Slowly deteriorating Turgon of Gondolin, and some very needed Competent SeneshalsTM.

The whole saga (100k of delicious hurt/comfort with a guaranteed happy ending)

-> Part I - "Until we meet again, dearest friend." 53k words about their first life and fall (in love, and into death), or the work that sparkled it all, illustrated by the wonderful @dreamsofgold.

another example of me loving boring shit is liking the idea of getting my blood sucked by a vampire but like they give me snacks and take care of me like the same as when you donate blood. and not even in a like over the top romantic vampire way where they give me some big fancy meal and have me sit on a fainting couch or something, just like normal style. or hell even like having them take my blood in a more clinical way and then drink it from a container instead of drinking it directly from me. it's like. it appeals to me because it's kinda stupid and unsexy and funny but at the same time it's like a kind of denial. and there's a kind of tension. you know here they are holding back and approaching this in this very proper friendly way but they're still drinking my blood. and you know, do they also want to just bite me, do they also just wanna get right to it, even if they're not doing that? like how much effort is it taking to suppress that? i don't know. a vampire who's a doctor and they hypnotize you in the like medical hypnosis kinda way where it's just to make it easier to draw your blood. maybe they don't even drink it in front of you. and they make a casual comment about how it smells or how if you relax it'll taste better or whatever and it's like. yea they are going to drink this. they want this thing that's in my body. i like that weird sense of intimacy in a situation that's trying not to be too intimate. you know

recently generated a dwarf fortress world and went to start an adventurer but the only options were human and elf. confused, i decided to investigate the history of the world through legends mode. i learned that

I commissioned this many months back and I'm absolutely delighted with the result. It was 100% worth the wait. I REALLY wanted to see a celedriel piece in the vein of a pulp-romance-novel cover, with Galadriel disheveling Celeborn.

Based on the original reference Celeborn would not be facing Galadriel, but Balls took the initiative by recommending a change of the pose, because in their head this ship is the ‘you are compass north’ kind. And I couldn't be happier with that because THIS is how I see these two, and the art became much more beautiful and intimate than I had initially conceived it.

And of course I love all the details, from the amazing rendering of their garments, to the detail that has gone into Galadriel's hair to add silver tones into the golden basis, to the subtlety of their jewelery.

Unlike Earth, where sunsets are red and orange due to the scattering of shorter blue wavelengths by our atmosphere, Mars has an extremely fine dust that scatters blue light more efficiently near the Sun.

It's commonly accepted in this fandom that humans have extremely fragile bodies in comparison to Eridians, but I think that's actually an oversimplification.

Because while Eridians are incredibly strong and tough on the outside, on the inside they are actually quite fragile:

They have no immune system, so anything that makes it past their enclosed carapace and internal heating will pretty much kill them

They have no natural defenses to radiation of any kind

In general they have very little organic matter so anything that targets their cells directly is quickly lethal

They are partially cold-blooded and live at a very narrow temperature range (about 20 degrees C)

They rely almost entirely on one, highly developed sense and are helpless if deafened (can't even remember the layout of a room)

They are completely helpless while asleep and can't control when that happens

They will forcibly become dormant after eating AND when badly hurt enough (their equivalent of going into shock)

They require more energy to function than humans do, and have very little organic matter to burn in the case of starvation

In contrast, humans:

Have an aggressive immune system and internal mechanisms for dealing with cell damage

Have adrenaline which allows them to temporarily ignore injuries and perform abnormal feats of strength

Are persistence hunters built for economy of movement and capable of extreme levels of endurance

Exist in a very wide range of habitats and on a diverse diet

Are very hardy in general, able to survive massive injuries, lack of sleep, prolonged starvation, and intense environmental conditions if given proper care

The quintessential example of this dichotomy between strength and endurance is the Going Fishing incident in the book: Rocky is able to survive and move in G forces that are killing Grace and to physically wrestle off the chair crushing him, but he collapses from his injuries almost immediately after. Despite being injured himself Grace then carries his 400lb friend up a ladder, is badly burned returning him to his atmosphere, and then proceeds to get some basic medical care, hype himself up on pain meds and keep working (albeit rather badly, lol) while Rocky forcibly sleeps.

The TL:DR is that Eridians are harder to damage, but easier to kill. They're like an rpg character with high armor and low health. I think Rocky would consider Grace to be very delicate at first, only to be blown away by how deceptively tough his friend can be.
