I continue on my normal internet history watch sprees on youtube and I watched the history and beginning story of slenderman.
He’s a very interesting antagonist and the fact that he has a psychological horror esque background makes him 10x more interesting to learn about. Hell I might even watch more fan content that was made in 2010-2012 (prime slenderman).
Though something I have come to understand is how the fandom immediately impacted its popularity. Slenderman was supposed to be something scary and anonymous, something that brought questions and fear like an analogue horror or the backrooms. The one thing that ruined it was the fanonisation of the character which stripped him of every scary quality he had with the Sony movie being the final straw that broke the camel’s back.
Although Slenderman is still a cool as hell concept he’s still dropped in popularity because of his current reputation due to multiple factors like the attempted murder case which ruined the creepypasta reputation, the creepypasta fandom already giving itself a bad name, and the cash grab Sony movie that made everything worse especially after it came out 2 years after the attempted murder case (which is insensitive as hell).
Slender, you are a sick as hell idea. But you must rest now with the bad reputation the internet gave you.
