I feel that you would understand the potential horror in this idea. But I see so much talk about Grace being basically a space dog and Rocky mourning after Grace does and that humans basically have a dog lifespan compared to Erids. But what have people on earth done with dogs? We have cloned them. Eridians have the scientific know how to clone Grace meat, what if Rocky clones Grace after he's dies? But he can never get it just right? Because how much of Grace was his upbringing?
There is just something wonderful and tragic about Rocky trying over and over to re make Grace but just not being successful and each time just twists the knife further.
Also the tragic fate of all the clones to be expected to be like someone but not knowing how to achieve it. Their whole life being moulded into something.
i like this :3 very very much
i was also thinking about how sensual the snow was, how suggestive the curves of the snowbanks appeared, their softness
I think one of the funniest things that book Ryland Grace does is continue to do excessive centrifugal force stuff with the ship after it almost killed him and he's just like "It's okay Rocky I'll just pass out. If anything else happens, you got this." And Rocky is never once a fan of that plan.
(prev tags from @synthyk LMAO)
Happy pride to those 5 seconds where Charlie Swan thought Jacob was coming out to him in the most insane way possible
Cnc but I hold you down and treat you with kindness, patience and acceptance
Choose your fighter looking ahhh
HA
Not Adrian having to hold Rocky back
Stratt's intentions for Grace are really so fascinatingly opaque. He was the first person after herself she had tested for the coma gene, but when the call went out for eligible volunteers he wasn't on the list. She didn't tell him. She had him trained in every relevent skillset, but prevented him from volunteering for the mission, even if he'd wanted to.
There are so many ways you could interpret the sequence of events. Did she hide it from him because she was afraid he would volunteer, or because she was afraid he'd try to cut and run if he knew there was a chance he'd be asked to go? Or because she didn't know how he would react and didn't want to risk introducing an unknown variable?
And then why ensure he's trained for the job after first making sure he wouldn't be selected to go? He didn't even find out he was eligible until after the crews had already been selected, and then only because Yao assumed he already knew. Was she always secretly planning to send him anyway, or did she very much not want to send him but couldn't practically afford to not train such a well-qualified candidate?
Or was she just bullshitting entirely about the whole secret backup thing, and he really was trained on all the gear so he could certify it as mission-ready? Not because she had any nefarious secret plans for him, but because she trusted his judgement. (Because one thing we do know for sure is that she very much did trust his judgement, at least in all things related to science.)
I don't fucking know. I don't know anything. I'm pretty certain she didn't intend from the beginning to knock him out and shove him onto the ship in place of Dubois or Shapiro, but that's the only call I'm confident in making. Eva Stratt I want to study you like a bug.
I've been in a bit of an art funk lately, so I decided to do a little redraw of this piece from 2021.
did you predict the bloody mary ship
I think this ship (spaceship) is really funny
getting reblogged by a user with a huge following is so embarassing like,, your blog is so much b-bigger than mine... uwahh o///o so m-many notes! you didnt even use any t-tags...! My tiny little blog can't take it...! >///< o-oh waow...
im SURE ppl have talked about this before but bloodymary (romantic or platonic) kinda has unimaginable sauce. they're both sacrificial lambs forced onto the altar torn between the desire to complete a mission they don't understand and a deep will to live. "this is bigger than me" /positive on one end and /negative on the other. the plot of iron lung is arguably close to what would've happened if grace didn't recover as much of his memory or didn't do it so quickly. a spiral of isolation-fueled terror knowing he should be doing something and it's something important that could either save or doom what remains of humanity but he doesn't know what. struggling to understand the intentions of the larger forces puppeteering him. a universe of dead stars. everyone he's ever met slowly dying out somewhere far away.
it's such a similar plot, but one is cosmic hopecore and the other is cosmic horror. there's an alien that quickly wins over grace's trust with extremely straightforward motivations and several aliens desperately scrambling to win simon's trust with extremely ambiguous motivations, one insisting it's trying to save humanity, the other saying it wants to save him, one tearing apart his body, the other shredding his mind. phm has a conflict broken down into excruciating scientific detail for the sake of clear understanding, and iron lung has a conflict that defies understanding to the point of all the character's total mental & physical collapse, to the point that even the audience can't say if they just watched a heroic sacrifice or a meaningless death that doomed everyone.
basically, it has the sauce that all the best crossovers do which is sheer tonal CLASH. put the tortured blorbo in a comfort situation and the happy friendship blorbo in a torture situation. i have more thoughts but no more words so uh. hell yeah
i think the funniest possible permutation of grace/rocky is if grace is demisexual but never got emotionally close enough to anyone for sex to feel like more than a mostly-unobjectionable chore. so when he starts developing Those Feelings for rocky it hits him like a meteorite and he's like. oh god. what is this. have i just been a massive repressed xenophile all along. do i have a geology fetish. am i gay. well rocky's not actually a man so it's probably not that. but what if i am.

"But Tip, what do the arrows represent?" So glad you asked, it's being some Particular kind of Unwell, if you understand me, you understand
I just learned about the existance of “pretend to work” spaces in China where you can pay to pretend to work at a realistic looking fake office so that you can take selfies to pretend that you have a job and get your family to stop asking why you’re unemployed. Which is like such a capitalism thing that I have no joke to make about it.
one of the biggest tragedies of early 2010s tumblr is that the devil (bbc sherlock) took root as the face of johnlock when the guy ritchie films were RIGHT there
