Homelander watched as the demon crumbled to the ground only to rise back up moments later. He tilted his head and gave a small nod. “That’s better. Glad we agree.” He said, staring Xaren down.
“Damn right I can, and will. There’s no one that’s ever going to control me again or tell me what I can and can’t do.”
he opens his mouth to point out that, no, they still very much do not agree, but quickly thinks better of it. next time the supe might do worse than a broken neck, and while he's not afraid of anything homelander can do to him, some of it actually manages to tip past the threshold of genuinely unpleasant. “ mn, agree, sure. ”
running his fingers through this form's close cropped hair, xaren cocks his head, considering. “ so if you're a god, what's your domain? ”
Homelander glares, eyes still glowing red as he catches the expression. The skepticism. “You doubt me? Hm? You don’t think I’m a God? Didn’t think that when you were on your knees for me, practically begging to have a turn? Why else would you be here? Why else would you come back after you got what you wanted, hm?”
He squeezes tight before scoffing, deciding to snap the demon’s neck and letting the clone of himself disappear. “When you visit back home, tell them God sent you.” He moved over to the couch to enjoy the few moments of peace he’d get before the bastard came back.
oh, he has a lot to say -- if only he was able. it's nothing personal, only xaren has met actual gods, tasted true divinity, and, well. the concubus wants desperately to ask what sex has to do with godhood, perceived or otherwise, but the opportunity doesn't come. instead, there's a sharp pain and momentary disorientation as he slumps to the ground. his tongue is heavy as he slurs out a response: “ s' rude. ”
slowly pushing himself to his feet, the demon rolls his neck, then his eyes, back in his own skin once more. “ you're very impressive, ” here, at least, though he doesn't say that part aloud, “ i guess you can call yourself whatever you want -- ”
Homelander doesn’t even budge while he’s chewed on, the bite more like being nommed on by a puppy than anything else. However at mention of being human, he lashes out.
With a hiss, he whips round and grips the demon by the throat - or rather himself - and glares. “I’m not fucking human. By any fucking means. I’m a God! With fangs all the better to tear throats open with!” He growls, eyes glowing red.
whatever else he was going to say is cut off by the sudden grip of a hand around his throat. rude. he allows himself to dangle in homelander’s grasp, no move made to try and free himself; the supe is stronger, there's no point in trying to pry his grip free, and magic feels like cheating.
if he could have made a sound, he’d have been unable to stop the little laugh that tried to escape him. throat restricted as it was, though, the demon is limited to raising his brows, communicating his skepticism through expression alone.
a god? okay, then.
“ your boo’s ’re clunky, 's not my fault. ” spoken through a mouthful of shoulder. he bites down a bit harder, tempted to try breaking the skin...before pulling back, deciding against it. “ most of the time more attention is the goal, not less, ” he answers with a shrug, considering the matter closed.
“ why d’you have fangs if you're human? ”
“ is that a human thing? that sounds like a human thing. doesn't apply to me. ”

"I know you can make a glamour thingie to like- Make yourself human, but can you do anything else?" Idly, Stray fiddles with Xaren's take like a cat batting a toy. "It's not like this vanishes? It's still there so if you pick a form too big or too small, the illusion is easy to ruin I guess," she muses aloud, gaze wandering over the demon.
“ mmm? ” his tail swishes idly as she toys with it at first, before it curls around her wrist, as swift as a striking snake. the grip is loose, and he simply gives her hand a light tug, showing off just a bit. “ i can do plenty of stuff — glamour is more for feeding than blending in though. ” as he speaks, his tail releases stray’s wrist.
rolling his shoulders, his form seems to grow hazy at the edges, then all at once it's entirely different — and stray is looking at an exact copy of herself. “ i’m better at this than glamour. illusions take a lot of focus. ” and anyone who knew xaren for more than a few moments would understand why that might be an obstacle. spinning on the spot, they crane their neck looking over their shoulder, as though trying to verify that that his tail was, in fact, no longer there.

“ i'm bored, ” the plaintive whine came from a chair that had definetly been empty just a moment ago, but was now filled by a petulant and, evidently, bored, concubus. “ let me suck you off. ” no tact, but xaren was certain @ofsnarkandmagic wouldn't mind terribly.
well. that certainly tells him everything he needs to know. hell means demon, so he's in familiar enough company. "...Korea. We don't exactly have a "Hell", though." he pauses, one ear twitching a little as he considers that. "..Well. No, I guess it sort of is a sort of Hell... We just don't call it that." he shrugs. "...What are the other layers?"
“ whaaaaat is a 'korea'? ” the other had said it as though he was supposed to be familiar — except he absolutely wasn't. hells, he didn't even know if it was a city or an entire realm the other demon was referring to.
“ layers? they're realms, my dimension isn't a pastry, ” they huff, a hint of indignance coloring the protest. he allows a moment to pass in silence, tail flicking from side to side behind him, rather like a cat's, before he speaks again. “ the name depends on who's in charge that day, ” he concedes with a little shrug. “ the other three realms change rulers often enough that i can't really be bothered keeping up. ” not the sort of thing you want to hear from a member of the royal line of succession, generally.
"i've made my peace with dying," you don't live a life quick to violence without knowing it's going to get you killed. as long as his twin survives and gets the chance to do some good, it will be worth it. emerson reaches out for the other's hand. "i don't think you get to choose if no one dies. that isn't the type of story we live in."
“ i haven't made my peace with you dying. i bet hughie hasn't, either. ” it wasn't the kindest of things to do, bringing the twin emerson was willing to die for into the conversation, but kind wasn't getting him anywhere.
except he could choose, couldn't he? it would mean violating a lot of people's trust and consent, but was that enough to stop him? faced with the prospect of losing everyone he cared about, and everyone they cared about... sometimes xaren wasn't sure. he might not have had homelander's raw strength, but he did have a different kind of power, and a lot of it. he could toy with the very essence of what made a person, change them to their very core, strip their will or end their life —-
emerson's hand touching theirs snaps the concubus back into the present, and he stares, unmoving for a moment, before lacing his fingers through emerson's. “ i could do it, ” he starts, looking pointedly away, past the human. “ if i wanted to — you couldn't stop me. ”
“ life is unfair, ” the concubus laments to @straysupe as they flop backwards onto the couch in a not at all over-dramatic manner, even draping his arm across his face for emphasis. “ i’m pretty sure i could solve a LOT of problems by just, y’know — ” they make a vaguely suggestive motion with their free hand, half-hearted at best, which is decidedly out of character.
“ but if i eat him, then technically part of him is part of me forever — and butcher and annie say they'll never have sex with me again if homelander is in me forever. ”
