No one doing this should be allowed to call themselves a feminist.
The wealthy author escalated a social media spat that resulted in posting a photo from a 2023 event at the Institute of Economic Affairs in
Let's not beat around the bush: Children's author JK Rowling sexually harassed someone. In some jurisdictions, this would count as sexual abuse. JK Rowling has committed a sex crime against a woman and fell back on the old rape apologist standby of "she was asking for it".
I hope your nostalgia is worth it
husband: I'm so glad we finally have our own place! You did such a great job decorating it, honey
fujo wife: Really? You don't think it's kind of...chintzy?
somewhat horny: i have to get Fucked!
quite a bit horny: can we pretend i’m an elven prince and the necromancer’s curse turns me into a demon on the full moon and the only way to cure me is to have my Womb filled by a chivalrous knight . and can you make sure you say soem shit like ‘forsooth’ and ‘by my honor’ and stuff. mngh
hornier than anyone has ever been: i need to kiss someone and get married
Give me less "being kind requires zero effort" and more "being kind is worth the effort it takes."

ursula k le guin affirmations for your day:
it is our differences which make us dearer to one another
it is never too late to start loving
the enemy is not the foreigner, but the ones who tell you to hate the foreigner
everyone should have food, shelter, and work
everything is a yin and yang metaphor if you try hard enough
sci-fi is important

After Hours at Dooryard Books by Cat Sebastian
“The kiss is soft and slow, worryingly tender, a kiss under a yellow porch light at the end of a date. It’s a kiss by the luggage carousel, after someone’s finally come back. It’s the sort of kiss Patrick has always known is for other people.”
we know rachel reid keeps joking about “killing ilya” in the next book, and it’s obviously a bit. fandom laughs, we cope, etc.
but rereading the long game… the airplane-crash scare plotline basically confirms something that’s been sitting under ilya/shane the whole time:
grief isn’t just pain for them — it’s a survival threat.
in that chapter, shane’s mind goes to the worst possible outcome and what it would do to him:
“what if ilya had died?” “shane would have died too. alone, and secretly…”
that line matters because it isn’t poetic. it’s practical horror. at that point they’re still hidden, so shane isn’t imagining a clean grief. he’s imagining the kind that rots quietly. the kind where you keep showing up to life but you’re already gone.
then we get ilya’s side and it’s even more revealing, because ilya does what he always does: he turns love into a vow.
“whatever happens, i am with you. safe in your heart.”
he doesn’t think “i’ll move on.” he thinks “i will stay.” he believes the people you love stay with you until it’s your time to go. he even thinks of his mother, how he still feels her with him, and you can see him already building the same future for shane: i’ll be with you, however i can.
and underneath all of it is regret. ilya begging for more time because he knows he wasted years hiding how much he loved shane—from the world, from shane, from himself. he needs more time not just to be happy… but to love him properly.
so here’s the part i keep coming back to:
if ilya dies first, shane is the one who could survive longer. not because it wouldn’t destroy him—IT WOULD—but because shane has structure. routine. coping skills. people. he’d keep going because that’s what shane does. he’d make survival into an act of love, even if it’s alone, and quiet and private.
but if shane dies first… ilya is not far behind.
Because Ilya loves like a religion. he clings. he mythologizes. he would feel like the world ended. shane isn’t just “the love of his life”—he’s home, safety, identity, the proof that ilya can be chosen and stayed. and if that anchor is gone, ilya doesn’t just lose a partner—he loses the thing holding him to the world. he wouldn’t just be grieving. he’d be disappearing.
So yeah, Rachel jokes. and we laugh .. Ha Ha 😭 (don't even pls).
but canon already laid the groundwork that for both of them, losing the other isn’t just heartbreak. It’s existential.
Perhaps nitpicky but I dont think it's entirely fair to dump on Shane for the whole "how could he not notice Ilya being miserable when he's playing on such a shitty team" thing because it doesn't take into account that no one believes in or understands Ilya Rozonov like Shane Hollander (excepting queen Show!Svetlana)
like not to put too fine a point on it but canonically Boston sucked...and then Ilya Rozanov crashed onto their ice and he turned the team around, and he won a Stanley cup (before Shane!)
I dont think it ridiculous for Shane to just...assume Ilya can do it again, or to believe that he will. I dont think it's even a question in his mind. Because that's Ilya fucking Rozanov.
there is the of course iconic Trophy Room scene that establishes pretty hard that Ilya is Shane fucking Hollander's biggest fan, but I think it shouldn't be over looked that Shane is Ilya's.
A big part of Ilya's journey in the Long Game is him dealing with his depression, which includes remembering the joy he used to take in winning. but that isn't Shane's journey in The Long Game. Because Shane never forgot who Ilya fucking Rozanov is. he was just waiting for him to remember.
happy pride month my friends <3
those were the days... Picture the scene: Monty Python's Flying Circus ran from 1969 to 1974. Nothing, I mean nothing, had been seen like this before on TV. To really appreciate their courage and brilliance you need to know something about these days when gay marriage was not even on the horizon and most people would lose their employment if they were outed at work. The first Pride Parade was in 1970 and it was only in 1973 that the American Psychiatric Association in their generosity declared that homosexuality was not a mental disorder. Being LGBTQ+ was gradually decriminalized in various parts of the UK and a bit later in the US starting slowly in the late '60's.
Meanwhile, Monty Python was winning over hearts and minds through the funny bone. Groundbreaking.
I think Graham Chapman, the 4th man to join the scene, being gay and being a member of Monty Python is worth noting. He had a partner, David Sherlock, and was publicly open with his homosexuality as early as 1972. I just think it makes a difference in how Monty Python treated queerness in sketches when one of their members, their good friends and collaborators, is himself gay.
