Is there a gofundme for the iranian ballistic missile programme
people will say anti-civs redefine the word 'civilization' to suit ourselves, then redefine the word 'civilization' to suit themselves!
i like some of the attempts made by anarchists to operationalize the term 'civilization', like Wolfi does (here: click), where he defines it as "a way of life based upon ... dwelling within areas of concentrated human population separated from the areas where this population gets its sustenance." i don't mean to object to this type of analysis.
but, tell me if i'm wrong, i personally think that the mettle of what anti-civs mean by 'civilization' is actually not any particular structure, process or system. it's the concept of civilization that is really under attack. because what that term denotes does change, and is defined in such a slippery way, that everything at all can be called or not called civilization. so when anti-civs say 'civilization' is racist or colonial, someone will say: 'you're the real racist colonialist, because you equate civilization with Europe!' yada yada. but that's obviously not what anti-civs mean by it. what they really mean is the concept of civilization is racist. but, further, they especially mean that the project given over that concept as its organizing principle is racist. because 'civilization' is a concept for explaining, propagating, and implementing domination.
in the same way can say we are against race, and we don't mean we are against all people of the world who are presently classified into races. you know how to interpret statements like that about anything else, but not this one. but i suppose we, also, struggle to interpret our own meaning, because we immediate also get dragged into, say, whether or not harvesting grain depends on class society, or if class society depends on mining minerals. things we do have thoughts about, but which are really different thoughts. this is why an anti-civ can say "i'm against civilization, but i'm not an anarcho-primitivist" and other such things. equally someone can have naive beliefs about primitive man and his simplicity, like Jamiroquai does, and desire to 'go back' in some way, but still find criticism of 'civilization' abhorrent. because it is not a particular system of production but a principle through which the world is to be organized.
i've always asked the question when someone shits on anti-civs, okay -- who does civilization need to civilize? let's look at it as an infinitive process, rather than merely a noun. when we refer to 'civilizing' via a process of 'civilization' who do we need to teach how to be 'civil citizens' ? civilization is purely a category of division and exclusion; 'civilized' has always been a privilege-label that can be ripped away, similar to 'man' or 'employee' or 'citizen'. if you don't make the cut, you are fit to be forsaken. they either get it or feel that i am playing a trick on them. obviously no one needs to be 'civilized' and in fact they might even think back to racist canards about 'barbaric, uncivilized savages not fit for polite society' realize the links between civility and colonies, that this is all a propagandistic outgrowth of optics politics, more manufactured consent, and have a bit of a moment. or they might try to quabble over dictionary definitions in an attempt to willfully misunderstand my critique.
Totally normal for a legitimate for-profit company to refuse to reclaim or stop running their products even after they're no longer being paid to do so. I'm sure it's very normal to just keep running your service for free when your contract's been terminated. Spending money to continue running cameras that supposedly no one is looking at is definitely not an indicator they are just run by the federal government to spy on everyone and only a wacko conspiracy theorist would think so.
When I was a little boy, girls used to just do random cartwheels for no reason. Then one day, they stopped. Now that I am a man, no women randomly do cartwheels. This is because society is evil and killed the cartwheel impulse in their soul. They don't even spin horizontally anymore. It's fucked up.

suprised more people havent seen the fuller context of this clip cause its way more insane
look i WISH more horror movies were just the directors thinly disguised fetish. instead we got all these horror movies that are just undisguised reflections of culturally hegemonic values and anxieties. like if we got some weird fetishes up in here it would probably add some variety thats all im saying.
im fucking crying
erika kirk being handed the golden opportunity to be the face of conservatives for the rest of her life and then fumbling it instantly by being genuinely unlikable and off-putting will always be funny to me almost as funny as remembering that charlie kirk got shot in the neck and died
Two World Cup finalists from opposing teams in this fucking picture, this sport isn't real

Not to be rhe ten millionth person to say “USAmerican President Donald Trump Is An Incoherent Public Speaker Whose Train Of Thought Can Be Best Described As Scat Jazz” but I just remembered that when he talks at international events it is several dozen people’s job to translate what he’s saying and what he intends to say to world leaders in real time
And I desperately wish to hear how they do it
If anyone reading this isn’t fluent enough in English to understand the sentences that man says, please know that he has essentially mixed a number of adjectives and topics together in a hat and is pulling them out at random like a horrible children’s game
Like that waxy jaundiced bitch will straight up be like “J'étais sur internet l'autre jour – internet, la plus grande invention américaine. Et la Chine a “internet aussi. Pas un bon internet, pas comme le mien, j'ai un internet formidable. Les gens me disent : « Donald, ton internet est génial ! » On adore l'internet de Donald. Mais la Chine… Chine, Chine, Chine… And people will lose their minds
International translators have had this problem for A While - if they *don't* clean up what he says to sound coherent, they look like they're doing a bad job.
Explore Trump translation challenges, tips for interpreters, and 2025 strategies for accurate political translation and Trumpslation success
oh my god
There was a scandal in Poland because one translator decided to translate him accurately, tone, vocabulary level and word salad tangents and all. Polish conservatives who don't speak English and previously only heard smoothed out translations that sounded coherent and used big words were up in arms about how the translator was "inserting her political agenda", "mocking him", "exaggerating", "purposefully trying to make him look bad" and "incredibly unprofessional". I listened to the translation in question. It was literally just accurate.
5. Sensitive and Controversial Language Trump’s speeches occasionally contain misogynistic, sexist, or inflammatory language. Japanese interpreter Tsuruta, for example, faced challenges when translating sexualized remarks, ultimately opting for standard terminology to maintain professionalism. Similarly, Chinese translator Kumiko Torikai found certain lewd expressions ethically challenging, ultimately leading to her retirement. Navigating these situations requires skillful balancing of accuracy, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity, ensuring that the translation is appropriate without distorting the original intent.
I don't know why the authors of PoliLingua act as if Trump's verbal misogyny and racism wasn't very much part of his "original intent".
it only now dawns on me that millions of people on this planet think Trump is way smarter than he is because translators have neglected to relate his violent speech accurately out of misunderstood politeness. Make the ape sound like a ape
We had a mini-scandal in the German translation/interpretation community last year about exactly this – the interpreter for the inauguration got sick of Trump's incoherence and made a remark into his mic that was not intended to be heard (here's my post on it).
