Realizing that I am not employing enough of my free will to become a nuisance at work
Me watching this:
I’m not letting this rot in the tags
at this time of year you might be tempted to create new rules for yourself, if you do, make sure that they are designed to serve you, not to punish yourself for imperfection.
I'm sorry but this is not the same person. It's almost uncanny how much Connor Storrie disappears into Ilya Rozanov. I know much has been said about the accent, the quick language acquisition. But to me what's even more fascinating is the way everything about the way he looks changes for the role - his facial expressions, the way he hold himself, all of those little micro expressions. Because cultural differences are not just in the language. A masterclass really, that whole performance. Looking forward to following his long and successful acting career.
And the same goes for this mf who apparently exorcised his true glorious freaky self every morning and slipped into the skin of anxious, repressed good boy Shane. The range. The way everyone was sooo sure nobody would be able to really follow the story of the show because we were sure without Shanes thoughts viewers would be lost? Needn't have worried, Hudson Williams will just show you 5 pages of internal complexity in a 5 second close-up shot.
this is just my opinion but i think any good media needs obsession behind it. it needs passion, the kind of passion that's no longer "gentle scented candle" and is now "oh shit the house caught on fire". it needs a creator that's biting the floorboards and gnawing the story off their skin. creators are supposed to be wild animals. they are supposed to want to tell a story with the ferocity of eating a good stone fruit while standing over the sink. the same protective, strange instinct as being 7 and making mud potions in pink teacups: you gotta get weird with it.
good media needs unhinged, googling-at-midnight kind of energy. it needs "what kind of seams are invented on this planet" energy and "im just gonna trust the audience to roll with me about this" energy. it needs one person (at least) screaming into the void with so much drive and energy that it forces the story to be real.
sometimes people are baffled when fanfic has some stunning jaw-dropping tattoo-it-on-you lines. and i'm like - well, i don't go here, but that makes sense to me. of fucking course people who have this amount of passion are going to create something good. they moved from a place of genuine love and enjoyment.
so yeah, duh! saturday cartoons have banger lines. random street art is sometimes the most precious heart-wrenching shit you've ever seen. someone singing on tiktok ends up creating your next favorite song. youtubers are giving us 5 hours of carefully researched content. all of this is the impossible equation to latestage capitalism. like, you can't force something to be good. AI cannot make it good. no amount of focus-group testing or market research. what makes a story worth listening to is that someone cares so much about telling it - through dance, art, music, whatever it takes - that they are just a little unhinged about it.
one time my friend told me he stayed up all night researching how many ways there are to peel an orange. he wrote me a poem that made me cry on public transportation. the love came through it like pith, you know? the words all came apart in my hands. it tasted like breakfast.

The stars and EPs had hopes for the show going forward.
fuck this, let's go steal a season 4. rip it from amazon prime's cold dead hands.
give a woman some guy and she'll be entertained for a day. teach a woman how to put some guy in situations and she'll be entertained for the rest of her life.

#unreal levels of pretty here#except for that god damn fucking track suit#WHO EVEN DREAMS OF WEARING THAT#that’s why you and rodney were meant for each other just fucking awful at wearing civvies
to me this is someone attempting to cosplay a jock and getting it very badly wrong. another reason he and Rodney are made for each other because underneath the flimsy disguise that boy is 100% nerd and he has the hardback book to prove it.
Yes yes yes, you’ve nailed what I’ve been thinking! John IS Captain Kirk like Rodney thinks, but only in the sense that he’s a “stack of books with legs”.
He was probably a bit of a shy, awkward child (see: John and Dave in Outcast) who finally became one of the cool kids after joining the Air Force, and had the jock friends (Mitch and Dex) to back it up. In his dream world, he’s a hot shot, well-spoken, red-blooded, guys guy with a cool place, cool clothes, and cool stories. That’s the character he created.
But deep down, he’s very smart, he’s a bit anxious, would rather read comics, gigantic Russian novels and romance stories, and geek out than throw a big party. God forbid anyone find out who he really is. Being around Rodney and his team seems to be the first time he’s ever been open and honest about himself.
It's my 14 year anniversary on Tumblr 🥳
