I’d let you pluck my petals
For as long as you need
If it meant that I could know
If you love me
Yet then you’d decided that you were all donet
And I tried to grow my tallest for you, and then some
But nothing would show, for I couldn’t grow
You’ve left me here below
Lost and alone
With no more petals left for you to own
I’ll be your Barnstable boyfriend
Runaway and meet me
Make me your secret
So that you can keep me
We’ll meet back at midnight
And I’ll be here for you
Until our sky is colored
Dawn’s sweet pinkish hue
Bracelet of Hair
He’d watch her when she bit at her nails in class. When she had just started dating a different guy, she would also smell different. If she ever went to the bathroom, he’d count each second she was gone. He knew what was written on the 12th page of her notebook, and the 9th one, he made a very keen effort to remember what was on the 3rd one though.Â
He’d collected the first strand. It was mingling with the dust, stuck under the leg of her chair. Every night and every morning, his thoughts of her brought an elated smile to his face as he dreamed of his body blending into hers, his hair tangling with hers, his breath becoming her air.
One day she held the door open for him before she left the classroom; he was the only one left, distracted, looking to see if any more had trickled out her head. Eventually he gave up, meekly cursing under his breath. When he noticed her waiting, all he could stifle was a muttered “thank you,” with a forced smirk and a heavy breath as he scurried past her. Her hair was tight in a bun today. It looked like it hurt.
Alone, within the walls of his bedroom, he dreamed of how close he was to her for that moment, clutching on to his bracelet and bedsheets to keep him from floating away. It made him ache and throb to envision how soft her hair could feel between his fingers. Pulling at her collected hair in his apogee, he relinquished all chains binding him to reality; feeling himself drain into his bed and sink into sweat.
“No, no! Well, yes, but not really? Just keeping watching and you’ll see!”
Charlie and Lily had been watching the same cheesy romance movie for what seemed like hours to Lily, but moments for Charlie. Lily was never really one for movies like this one, but Charlie loved them, and Lily loved Charlie, so Lily watched them with her.
“Listen to this part really closely! It’s super important to understanding the plot!” Charlie exclaimed.
“You’ve already seen this before?” Lily said, starting to smile at her wife.
“Shhh!” Charlie snapped.
Lily surrendered and sat quietly to watch as the movie hit it’s climax.
. . .
The credits rolled down the screen as soft, orchestral, music began to play, guiding the movie to its closing. Charlie turned to Lily with an anticipating grin colored on her face.
“Sooo, what did you think?” she said, trying to hide the excitement in her voice.
“I thought it was…” Lily began to ponder.
Charlie’s face had faltered as her beloved paused.
“...very unique!” Lily quickly spit out.
As Lily noticed the slight, though not complete, relief in Charlie’s face, she swiftly came to the conclusion that more was needed; so she began again.
“The characters were played with a lot of passion, the plot was super original and the costume design honestly surprised me! I’m still kinda confused as to how her kiss brought him back to life, but it was overall fun to watch, especially for a romance movie!” Lily explained, half truth in her commentary, half white lies.
Charlie’s face brightened up as she heard Lily’s thought-out opinion on the film.
“I totally agree with you!” Charlie exclaimed.
She began to go on about how that one scene was taken more than 15 times, and how that actor almost broke his toe, and so on. Lily listened to Charlie with her full attention, falling in love with her more and more as she rambled on about the movie. She had always found it so cute when Charlie was truly passionate about something and wouldn’t stop talking about it.
“-he had a lot of trouble taking dying seriously and kept messing it up and THAT took a good few reta-”
“Hey,” Lily said, softly cutting off Charlie.
“Yeah?” Charlie responded, slight embarrassment in her tone as she realized how long she went on for.
Lily looked Charlie in the eyes, with a sweet grin growing on her lips.
“I love you,” Lily professed.
Charlie found herself completely dumbstruck, blushing profusely. It didn’t matter how many times Lily would say that, Charlie could never get used to it.
“...I love you too,” she said, trying to hide her face.
A bright smile spread on Lily’s face instantly, “Aww! You’re just too adorable!” She jumped at her wife, wrapping her arms around her, both of them falling over to lay down on the couch where they were sitting.
Charlie stammered, trying to find the right words to say, “S-stop itt! You’re definitely the cuter one!”
“Noooo, you are!!” Lily said, both of them beaming and giggling, holding each other warmly, as the credits finished gently rolling and the music had slowed to its end.
