i cannot emphasize how much it sucks that people in movies don’t look real anymore. like conventionally attractive people have always been cast more as leads but up until like a decade ago they had visible age lines and textured skin and double chins and imperfect teeth. like whenever i’m feeling insecure i just have to watch a regular movie from the 70s and remind myself that im actually not unhygienic and disgusting for having teeth that are a little yellow and visible pores
there are places in the world today that are experiencing 40°C for the first time in recorded history. of course there's no way to know whether chucking billionaires into volcanos will appease the sun god but i feel we're doing the scientific method a disservice if we don't at least try
alex rider is so awesome because I think too hard about it and get a nosebleed. like yeah it’s already a subversion of the child hero fantasy but it’s also a total narrative about avoiding grief. about being kept away from it. it’s about the support of denial as a reaction to death. Alex is never allowed to sit down and grieve for his uncle— he avoids having to think about Ian at all, and is never made to; he is proven right when he sticks to the belief that Jack is alive instead of having to deal with what it means if she isn’t. so what is alex rider but a story about grief? what is alex rider but a story about the incredible lengths a boy will go to to avoid having to grieve at all? what is alex rider but a boy who is unable to face reality and whose reality refuses to face him. all of the books and the paths alex travels are just metaphorical time loops, repetitive adventures where he cannot get back to reality. He can’t escape the cycle. He can’t help but return to it. The whole thing is just a testament to how far someone will go to avoid their grief. so like. how am I supposed to get past that.

The ending of this chapter was written back in November, and I'm so excited the story has finally caught up! Truly one of my faves in a while, so I hope you enjoy:)

I do find it interesting that Frank is fully confident of his ability to "batter" River into submission [to join his dwindled merc army], but equally that it would take a very long time and he kind of can't be arsed. Interesting guy.

11) Are there any scenes you have reread more often than others?
I would say the ending of Eagle Strike (like the Cray/Yassen/Sabina/Alex picnic through the end). Alex and Cray have the best villian interactions in the series, imo. Also, Sabina is a badass, and Yassen just sitting there like 0_0 will always make me laugh. Truly peak.
18) Which two characters that never shared scenes in the books would you most like to see interacting?
Helen and Julia, all the way. I feel like Helen would be one of the few to see right though Julia's mindgames.
20) Which minor character in the Alex Rider books do you think deserves to get more love in fandom?
My answer has to be Ash! He's one of my all-time faves. I feel like he has so much fanfic potential, and I would love to see more people try and explore his character in different ways. Maybe he doesn't deserve love exactly, but he's so interesting that I am always happy to think about him more.
Helen is my secondary answer. It's always fascinating to think about the woman who gave birth to Alex Rider (and the woman who dealt with John for all of those years). I love when fics really make Helen her own person, because we get so little in canon.
I also love Ash! And I don't know if you've read it but one really good fic about Ash is "What's left when the fire goes out" by AlibiNonsense. It's like a character study and lowk made me cry. It's also very short but it's really good
