On August 11, 2023, Zeus was put to rest for the last time. He was 15 1/2 years old. This is his final photo of him taken, smiling and having a great time as always. We’ll miss you, puppy.

Actual roman epitaph for a dog
humans are the same
I’ve seen this one doing the rounds a few times (and it makes me cry every time I see it), but was curious about the original Latin text, so I did some digging: it’s a shortened version of CIL 10, 00659, a tombstone from Salernum (modern Salerno, Italy). (source; CIL is the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum).
Portaui lacrimis madidus te, nostra catella,
Quod feci lustris laetior ante tribus.
Ergo mihi, Patrice, iam non dabis oscula mille
Nec poteris collo grata cubare meo.
Tristis marmorea posui te sede merentem
Et iunxi semper manib(us) ipse meis
Morib(us) argutis hominem simulare paratam,
Perdidimus quales hei mihi delicias.
Tu, dulcis Patrice, nostras attingere mensas
Consueras, gremio poscere blanda cibos,
Lambere tu calicem lingua rapiente solebas,
Quem tibi saepe meae sustinuere manus,
Accipere et lassum cauda gaudente frequenter
And here’s my translation:
Wet with tears I have carried you, our little (female) dog, just as I did in happier times fifteen years earlier (lit. “three periods of five years). For myself, Patrice, now you will not give me a thousand kisses nor will you be able to lie lovingly around/against my neck. I have sorrowfully placed you, merit-worthy, in a marble tomb and I have joined you always to myself in death, as by your cleverness you matched a human. Alas, we lost such pleasures for myself! You, sweet Patrice, were accustomed to join us at our table, to beg charmingly for food (while sitting in our) laps. You were in the habit of greedily licking our cups with your tongue, which my hands often held for you. Frequently and joyfully (you) receive a weary one with your (wagging) tail...
tl;dr: this dog was named Patrice and was very, very loved. (another translation with some glossing of the text.)
It's the fact she's joined to them in death, it's the fact that she sat in her owner's arms and ate their food. That he held the cups down for her to drink from....
Hundreds of years and we still know she was loved. We still know how she liked to sleep. All these years!! Loving dogs is the same!!!!
One day I was sunbathing in the garden it got too hot for Lorcan but she didn’t want to be inside on her own so I made her a blanket fort to keep her cool & she was pretty happy

It snowed on Zeus’s Birthday today, big fluffy clumps. Happy Birthday to the world’s most beloved pup.
Important
Adding this because they’re safe for dogs too
How are turkey skin and bones not safe? Please elaborate.
Dunno about skin, but Turkey bones, and avian bones in general, are really easy to shatter. If a dog eats said shards, it could tear up their insides.
Important for all pet users!!
The skin is very fatty and can lead to diarrhea, vomiting, and/or pancreatitis. Pancreatitis can lead to a very expensive hospital stay, and is quite painful. When in doubt, best not to feed human food.
Important PSA for this (and every) holiday season! As someone with dogs and cats in her life, both of these are nice to have on hand!
Tail swinging to the beat
hey i am so curious about what you mean by dogs and cats domesticated themselves if you're interested in explaining
simply they branched away from wildcats and wolves and began living in different smaller communities and Became Different. the difference between a dog and a wolf is not their attachment to humanity but the specific place they lived and what tasks they evolved to complete
for people aksing what i meant in tags What do you call this dog because to my knowledge the name they are commonly called is considered an insult to the people who originally bred them and is essentially a slur in russian <- IF IM REMEMBERED CORRECTLY THIS COULD BE WRONG
BTW THIS IS A BIT WORDY but its a few people talking about what im referring to in a wikipedia thread
also yes there are A Lot of dog and cat breeds that are literally just slurs or racially offensive terms i try to research the names myself before i use them mostly i just love animals and i want to be able to communicate with others but not at the expense of being cruel to human beings either
OP is right! The word “Samoyed” is a derogatory slur in Russian for the Indigenous People of the Russian Arctic Region that compared their dogs to them. For this reason, most owners of the breed try to distance themselves as much as possible from the term and call our dogs “Sammies” in our dog groups! We’re trying to boost more awareness on the name Sammies, although not many people outside of these niche groups are well versed on the name or breed.
It Him Mug!
