psa to everyone on antipsychotics during the summertime
some antipsychotics can make you more susceptible to heat exhaustion because they make it so your body cannot regulate your body temperature correctly. I learned this the hard way last summer, I got really nasty heat exhaustion while on a high dose of quetiapine. so check if your meds react badly to heat, and if they do, please be sure to wear your sunscreen, have light cover ups on or with you, wear a hat, and stay hydrated! be safe
especially duloxetine and clozapine, know the signs of dehydration, take cooling breaks if you have to be in the sun
duloxetine is commonly branded in the USA as Cymbalta.
Note: many anti-bipolar meds are also antipsychotics. I found a list of psychotropic meds that can increase risk of heat exhaustion here:
Can personally confirm that Latuda/Lurasidone can also mess with your heat response and lead to heat exhaustion if you arenāt careful, like I wasnāt.
[ID: Screenshot of a page with two columns listing trade names beside generic names of medications; the columns have been compiled into a list for ease of comprehension/reading.
Common psychotropic medications that may impair the heat response:
Trade name - Generic name
Abilify, Aristada - aripiprazole Asendin - amoxapine Artane - trihexyphenidyl Aventyl, Pamelor - nortriptyline Benadryl - diphenhydramine Celexa - citalopram Clozaril, Fazaclo, Versacloz - clozapine Cogentin - benztropine Cymbalta - duloxetine Desyrel, Oleptro - trazodone Elavil - amitriptyline Effexor - venlafaxine Eskalith, Lithobid, Lithonate - lithium Fanapt - iloperidone Fetzima - levomilnacipran Geodon - ziprasidone Haldol - haloperidol Invega - paliperidone Lexapro - escitalopram Loxitane - loxapine Latuda - lurasidone Navane - thiothixene Norpramin - desipramine Nuplazid - pimavanserin Paxil - paroxetine Phenergan - promethazine Pristiq - desvenlafaxine Prolixin - fluphenazine Prozac - fluoxetine Rexulti - brexpiprazole Risperdal - risperidone Saphris - asenapine Seroquel - quetiapine Sinequan, Silenor - doxepin Stelazine - trifluoperazine Thorazine - chlorpromazine Tofranil - imipramine Trilafon - perphenazine Trintellix - vortioxetine Wellbutrin, Zyban - bupropion Viibryd - vilazodone Vraylar - cariprazine Zoloft - sertraline Zyprexa - olanzapine
*Note: this is not an all-inclusive list.
ramadan is coming up so fasting muslims on medication please remember to be very careful and hydrate more than you normally would at suhoor and iftar!!!
Can confirm that Seroquel also exacerbates my preexisting photophobia as well as temperature regulation!

Antiseizure medications

Antibiotics - sulfonamides
Antiretrovirals - Indinavir

Alcohol
fantastic addition, thank you so much!
This sent me down a research rabbithole, and holy crap.
Iām on Wellbutrin, have been for nine years. Just now am I finding out that overheating easily and sweating buckets upon exertion might be med-related. Increased sweating was reported by literally 1 in 5 people. Now it could just be that this is something my adult body does, but dry mouth is also a persistent problem thatās extremely common with Wellbutrin.
Iāll probably stick with it as a focus aid until Iām done with college in December. But hey, I havenāt been suicidal for years (every single thing has changed) and the ADHD isnāt debilitating. I might revisit this in January and talk with my doctor to see whatās best for me.
Even if itās not literal heat exhaustion, sometimes it can be just really sucky. I am way more sensitive to heat than to cold now, when before it was the opposite. I broke down and bought an air conditioner last year because I couldnāt handle the heat the same way I did before meds.

My take is that "forced diversity" in media very much isn't a real thing but there is a trend of diversity with 0 thought put into how characters' identities affect them & if it makes any fucking sense what they're doing in the story. And also everybody forgot what tokenism is
Like that thing where somebody's trying to write an oppression allegory with nonhuman races but there are also humans in it and you can't have all your humans being white so then they have like a black person calling an elf a slur or something. Why this
Every time I have to sit through a blue person explaining racism to poc because somebody didn't think very hard about their scifi/fantasy setting I just think to myself... why are they doing that
So many TV shows/movies depict the Epi Pen as a total solution for anaphylaxis...it's not. The Epi Pen gives you 30 minutes to get to a hospital where they can save your life. TV makes it look like you just have to use the Epi Pen and then the crisis is over. Do people without allergies or a loved one with allergies know that an Epi Pen only buys you time? The more I see this on TV the more I worry...
**Maybe you should reblog this because I'm actually worried that most people don't know.
Omg so much this! I have to use my epipens about three times a year and my doctor recommends I shoot both of them in my thigh and then call an ambulance! They are a STABILISER not a cure!!
EPI and NARCAN are both stabilizers.
After use, you STILL need to go to HOSPITAL!!!
Being a pharmacy technician, yes, this is very common and yes, the directions by default do tell patients or anyone administering either one to call 911 and seek emergency help.

shout out to āgrossā disabled people.
people who canāt shower/bathe people who canāt shave people who canāt wash their clothes people who need help going to the bathroom people who have nasty habits (biting nails, picking nose, etc) people who canāt brush their teeth people who canāt go to the doctor people who canāt clean their room people who canāt make their beds people who vomit a lot people who wet the bed people who constantly have diarrhea people whoās physical deformities are seen as repulsive
and every other kind of person I missed that deserves to be here too.
you are people, first and foremost. your thoughts deserve to be heard, discussed, acknowledged, no matter what. you are not lesser. you are just another person. you should never be ignored for what you can/canāt do. you deserve care.
to abled people: check yourself. make sure you listen. and you can reblog, just donāt derail. maybe donāt add on, either.
happy July everyone
my favorite part of this post is seeing people in the notes whose hearts have been touched. if you donāt mind, Iād like to share a few.
keep in mind: this is nowhere near everyone. Some responses were too short, some were too long - I heavily advise you to go look in the notes yourself. And Iām sure many people reblogged this with just sorting tags or nothing at all, and thatās wonderful.
I made this post for myself, mostly. while I donāt do everything on the aforementioned list, I do apply to quite a few - but, ultimately, it was for me. I never expected it to boom like this.
And yet, it did. And that is a wonderful, wonderful thing. This post has helped people, even in small ways, something I never imagined. Itās wonderful.
so here, let me add a few more I missed. some taken from notes, some of my own.
people who pee in a bag people who canāt brush their hair people who canāt wash the dishes people with stomas and catheters people who are gassy people who have constipation issues people with chronic hives/red bumpy skin/MRSA people with heavy birthmarks people with bugs in their homes/car/etc people with constant runny/bloody noses people who canāt do certain things from depression people who need help getting out of bed people who eat in bed and have crumbs in there people who canāt clean their sheets people who canāt make their bed people with shower chairs
and even more that I had to have missed. Again, please add on.
So for this July, every one after, and all the months in between, just remember: You are loved. You are not alone. The notes both below and above prove that. I promise I am not lying. You are a wonderful, beautiful person, no matter what you can/canāt do, and no matter what you look like. You deserve to be heard and listened to. Your voice and opinion matters.
Yesterday the 12th of May was Fibromyalgia awareness day. I'm a little late uploading it, but spreading awareness is being done nonetheless. Lots of love for my chronic pain people!! <3
i hope everyone with acne, eczema, vitiligo, psoriasis, dermatitis, dermatillomania, and skin conditions have a good day today
