Haven’t heard? We’ll be doing a presentation at the Wilmette Public Library on July 18th. Our presentation is LESS THAN ONE MONTH away!

We’ll be having exclusive merch at our presentation. We’ll have custom screen printed t-shirts limited to 25, as well as some special Chicago themed stickers. Note: if you’re attending the presentation, all merch will be CASH ONLY!

We’ll also have a museum table set up where you can see some old FOB (and other band) memorabilia such as merch and physical music. 

Don’t live in the Chicago area? We’ll be livestreaming the whole entire presentation on our Youtube channel. It will also be up in video form afterwards if you are unable to watch the stream.

We hope to see you all there- either virtually, or in person. FOBAT will be in Chicago for a few days doing some archive quests (and fun quests). Follow us to stay posted on our adventures, we hope to do some in-person updates.

Interview with Mark Rose of Spitalfield

Last summer, we visited Chicago and got to interview Mark Rose of Spitalfield at the karaoke night he used to host at the Welcome Back Lounge. Mark is one of the nicest people we’ve been able to meet!

We chatted about Spitalfield, as well as some of his older bands like Landmine. If you like deep Chicago band lore… this interview is for you. You can find it now on our website under the FOBAT Interviews tab.

Fall Out Boy's Local Roots

After our trip to Chicago and its surrounding suburbs last year, we’ve been granted an amazing opportunity. On July 18th, we will be doing a presentation about Fall Out Boy’s roots at the Wilmette Public Library! Come watch the presentation at 1:00 PM CST. This event is 100% FREE to attend.

From Under The Cork Tree: The Lost Demos

A few days ago, 16 demos from Fall Out Boy’s “From Under The Cork Tree” leaked mysteriously via CDs mailed to fans and dropped in record stores. Did you manage to find or get a CD? Comment, DM, or tag us! We are currently working on a video in collaboration with Lost Media content creator LSuperSonicQ diving deeper into the songs.

We talked to Patrick about these then-lost demos in our interview last November. So far, we are aware of 5 CDs that have been found, but the messages from the so-called ‘The Secret Order’ behind this indicate there are more CDs. If you are one of the lucky ones to get a CD, let us know! Check out our work-in-progress Google Doc for information such as metadata and tracking of different CDs. 504 Plan, Knockout, and Fall Out Boy: Pop-punk trio

You may be wondering, where IS the Fall Out Boy Archive? Well, the Fall Out Boy Archive is on our website and Google Drive! Both of these can be found on our Linktree (link in bio). FOBAT Staff have been working hard these past few weeks to organize our Google Drive and website. A lot more of our archive is now public for your viewing pleasure. 

Here are some photos of Chicago pop-punk bands Knockout and 504 Plan. At one point in the scene, these two bands were on the same track as Fall Out Boy to become really big bands. They were all also good friends. On our website, you’ll find archives of their music, shows, merch, etc. Plus, we just finished writing our Knockout article!  Some bands don’t have nearly as much material saved. For example, we have no footage of Knockout to display. :( By putting what we do have out there, we’re hoping those holding on to rare materials may come forward.

That’s where you come in! FOBAT now has a submission form. You can submit videos, pictures, even MP3 files, and webpages. If you think we’d be interested, send it our way! Check our Linktree to find the submission form.

24TH ANNIVERSARY OF FALL OUT BOY’S FIRST EVER SHOW

The members of Fall Out Boy seem not to want to remember their first show. The band has gone on record a few times, recalling their performance on the night of October 9th, 2001, as embarrassing. Even if the band hadn’t honed their skills or refined their lineup yet, the circumstances around this night make the story all the more interesting.

Since posting about this exactly a year ago, we’ve uncovered key details about the show from people who were there and played, so we wanted to clear up misconceptions. We’ve refined our format over the past year, and felt this subject does much better in video format.

More about the other bands that played that night:

Stillwell - From Chicago, had a classic early-mid 90s emo sound that eventually turned math rocky. Justin runs a record label called Forge Again Records now. They played with bands such as Frontside, Last Ditch Effort, *tomsawyer, and La Mantra de Fhiqria.

Examination of the… - From Sioux Falls, was on this show as part of a tour. As you can see in the video, their drummer was wearing only a cheetah print speedo, for some reason.

Insidious/The Blindfold Parade - From Milwaukee, Insidious changed their name to The Blindfold Parade sometime around this show, and then proceeded to break up in March of ‘02.

Hey there, it’s been a while, hasn’t it? Our team spent this past summer hard at work with various projects, but also spent most of July traveling. Here’s a summary of what we’ve been busy with. Thanks to those who have bought FOBAT merch, I was able to afford a nice microphone, so I don’t sound awful now!

A lot happened on these two trips. Some fun, some scary, and some really important to our goals. We truly hope some of you are interested in our blog, as we worked super hard on it. Things are now ramping back up at FOBAT HQ, haha. We’re working hard to write up our articles, make our materials public, and also preparing for some big interviews… If you have suggestions on what you want to see us investigate next, let us know!

JOE TROHMAN’S HISTORY IN THE HARDCORE SCENE

Joe was the founder of Fall Out Boy, but before the founding of the band he did a lot more in the hardcore scene besides being in hardcore bands. In this video, we talk about how he created his own Zine in high school and helped take pictures for a band called Evolution!

THE EARLIEST RECORDED MUSIC BY PATRICK STUMP - He… raps?

You read that right. After a year-long search, FOBAT has finally found the holy grail: the 5-song EP from Patrick Stump’s first-ever band, Public Display of Infection, a high school metalcore band. It’s as legendary as it sounds.

Patrick was only 14 here. Although the tape has its obvious flaws, there’s definitely talent that shines through from all of the people in the band- but Patrick especially. We’re so happy to have found this, because it really paints the full picture of Patrick’s growth in mastering this art form, from PDI to Patterson to early Fall Out Boy, to now.

Shout-out to everyone involved in this arduous hunt, big involvements and small: Joe, Brian S., Beldo, Sean O’Keefe!!, Dave Hofer, the other PDI members, Jamie, everyone active in our Discord server in general, that guy who asked about PDI on Twitter a decade ago, and of course, Patrick himself.

PETE WENTZ'S LOST MTV SHOW PILOT

Pete has always been a jack of all trades, even in his little hardcore bands in the 90s, and continuing into his stardom. Us at the FOB Archive are consistently impressed by just how much *stuff* this guy has done- most intriguingly, when he dips his toes into acting. Watch this video to learn all about Punk Is Dad, Pete's attempt at a sitcom for MTV that is currently mostly lost. What do you think? Would this have been a killer show, or a major flop?

Fun fact for those who have read this all: This isn't Pete's only stint in TV show making. He also tried to make a show called "Permanent Vacation" that has virtually no information available on it. He also pitched a kids cartoon about protecting the environment called "Bronze Blue" with Mark Hoppus of Blink-182. Pete would have voiced a fish rockstar, but the show never made it past the pitch bible, which is viewable online.

Nick Scimeca's Photojournals

Fans may be familiar with some of these pictures, but did you know they come from old photojournals made by Nick Scimeca? Nick is a close friend of Pete’s who designed a ton of classic FOB, Decaydance, and Clandestine merch.

He designed the iconic bartskull logo for Clandestine Industries and created the short-lived but influential scene social platform “Friends or Enemies”.

Everything you need to know about FUCK CITY, Andy Hurley’s group of hardcore friends and their various music projects. For how influential FC was in the Fall Out Boy fandom over a decade ago, it seems to be mostly forgotten by the average fan, even though Andy and his buddies are all still good friends. We wanted to educate fans on some of the FC lore we’ve unearthed with some research.

Unfortunately, a lot of FC-related media is lost as of now, such as their website’s messageboards and multiple vlogs. We’re constantly working on efforts to find these lost gems and more FOB-related lost media. Once again, a big thanks to @tossmyambitions (Twitter) for voicing this post!

Recently, we managed to attract Andy’s attention on his livestream with @beyondthetats after he mentioned having been in hardcore bands in high school. We’ve done some extensive research on the beginnings of Andy’s participation in the scene, and are here to share it all with you! THE SONG THAT GOT PATRICK STUMP INTO FALL OUT BOY:

Fall Out Boy fans interested in the band’s early history may know that Patrick was “auditioned” for the band by Joe and Pete because Patrick had sent Joe some MP3 files of solo songs he had worked on. For a long time, what exactly these songs were was a complete mystery to fans. With the research that we and our FOBAT Discord server members have conducted, we now are extremely close to finding the audio for one of these songs. Watch to learn about the history of the song itself and the search surrounding it.

Shoutout to @glassslipping for getting Patrick to talk about this! Although he doesn’t mention the song by name in the clip, we know it’s been on his mind to begin with ;) Also a special shoutout to our server member Jamie for providing some of the earliest info in this search.
