This week on my enemies to lovers obsession (Flint x Wood, by me):

“You absolute bastard,” Oliver said. “I want to punch you.”

“No you don’t,” Flint smirked. Oliver could probably predict the weather by that smirk—better than Trelawney could, anyway.

“Yes, I fucking do.” And to make the point absolutely clear, he did, right in the bastard’s face. Flint wasn’t expecting it, and he toppled backward into the grass. He shook his head and gave Oliver a look of such unbridled lust that it was almost scary.

there's a post on here that's like "the worst thing a piece of fiction can be is mean", and while I agree with that, I think it being insincere is just as bad. nothing more obnoxious than a story that's constantly sneering and rolling its eyes at its own genre in a bid to seem clever and above it all.

I’m 99.9% sure that we are all on the same page, but just in case we aren’t: 

The kids who have now been cast as the Golden Trio in the HP reboot have not earned abuse. Suggesting they have does not help. It does not further trans rights. It just makes you dick. 

sending, or planning to send, these 10 year olds hate does nothing. Even if your main gripe is they don’t look like the images in your head or like Daniel radcliffe, just don’t. 

The adults who have willingly involved themselves in the series having full mental faculties and the ability to read and comprehend JKs actions (in the case of the Snape actor, understand it’s wrong, but still want that bag), are worthy of critique. Ben Barnes’ ‘oh yeah I’d totally be involved, why not?’ is worthy of critique, we can critique the actions of these kids' guardians if you like. 

But just don’t direct that shit those three kids.

These kids are 10. They are not old enough to be socially responsible for participating in this show. They don’t have fully developed agency or critical thinking. There’s a high likelihood that they’ll figure it out as they get older and I would LOVE to see them take a stand against JKR while the show is still in active production.

In the meantime, if you want something to do in the wake of this news, it’s very simple:

one thing i've been thinking about lately is that a lot of the things that are viewed as a sign of a person Not Doing Well are actually the healthy coping mechanisms for when things aren't going well. like crying about something is healthier than repressing it, listening to sad music helps you process your feelings, cutting your own hair is a low-stakes way to change up your life and claim agency over yourself, and in this case getting chinese takeout instead of cooking is a perfectly reasonable choice if you've had a bad or tiring day. movies will show a character eating takeout alone after a miserable day of work as if that's the sad ending to their day but the takeout isn't the sad part, the sad part is the day itself. it's mistaking the bandage for the wound

This is sort of going out on a limb from the original post but I think it’s fair to say that the bandage, the Chinese takeout, is still emblematic of the wound it is bandaging, which in movie terms adequately communicates that a character needs something in their life to change so they don’t have to cope.

Certainly, the occasional tough day alleviated with takeout is quite normal, analogous to cuts and bruises that need first aid. But girl if you’re getting stabbed every day, a bandage isn’t gonna cut it. You have to figure out a way to not get stabbed.

Moreover, some coping mechanisms can become maladaptive. The takeout case hits home for me especially because it’s a maladaptive way I have coped with loneliness (and also maybe adhd? Jury’s still out on that)

I can't wait until season 5 comes out and proves everyone wrong about Stancy, they can be together and make it work. I'm so tired of people saying that "Nancy doesn't need a man." Of course, she doesn't. It's all about what Nancy wants, it's all about letting go of her trauma and realizing that it wasn't her fault Barb died. This is Nancy finally healing and letting her feelings for Steve all the way in. This is about Nancy finally not letting people tell her how she should feel about Steve, that she's not trying to be anyone else and that she won't be in a miserable relationship like her parents. But that doesn't mean she can't also choose Jonathan as well. Honestly, whatever choice she makes. . .it's her choice and with or without a man, nothing's going to hold her back. I do hope she chooses both of them because that's also a choice she shouldn't have to feel bad about either especially if Steve and Jonathan chose each other, too.

We might see stancy but unfortunately I think chances of stoncy, my beloved, are pretty slim. I think the duffers have made it pretty clear in their handling of lgbt themes up to this point (robin was originally written as a replacement love interest for Steve, will’s very cliche coming out/not coming out speech) that when they write good queer dynamics (c.f. Will’s much more interesting speech in season 3) it is by accident or by actor intervention (also just with relationships in general like what is going on with Joyce and Hopper or Mike and El???). Maybe Joe, Charlie and Natalia will force Stoncy into season five, but I think that’s the only thing that would make that happen. It’s just too savvy a choice for the Duffers to make imo.

Not that I had English in third grade; it was just taught by my homeroom teacher, but the principle stands.
