Primus: I KNOW MY DAUGHTERS ARE WEIRDLY INCESTUAL. I KNOW THEY KILLED THEIR FIANCÉS (they’re banned from marriage now). AND I KNOW YOU’RE MORMON. NEVER TALK TO ME ABOUT FUCKING MY DAUGHTERS AGAIN.
Consider: it is the healthiest and most normal thing in the world to go to your close friends and loved ones with problems in your friendships and relationships. Not to gossip, not to talk shit, but I go "Hey, me and (x, not related to my current partners) are on the rocks right now, can I talk it out with you?" and then you get input, advice, you get to process your feelings through conversation, then you're probably more equipped to go back to the person and go "hey I've been thinking and processing, I feel xyz."
Two major thoughts here:
Don't let anyone convince you that this type of conversation should only exist in therapy. Your friends and loved ones are there for you. Its called a support system for a reason. Getting advice and comfort is entirely different from talking shit.
If someone gets upset with you for talking about your interpersonal problems with your friends, its worth examining that dynamic. Why are they so worried other people will find out how they're treating you? This isn't like 100% always a bad thing, but like. Consider if there's other parts of the relationship that feel controlled. Consider how listened to and respected you feel, how safe you feel, how independent and free to act you feel.

Next up someone is going to claim that the Narnia series isn't kids books.
Kids books is probably not the best way to word it, you can enjoy them at every age, including your childhood, as you get older you may find new truths in them, but they're still good for any age.
Oh for fucks sake. The Hobbit IS DEFINITELY A KIDS BOOK.
Anyone who reads it should recognize that, because it's a cute adventure story about a funny little guy and some dwarves and a dragon. Also, if you've read LOTR as well, you should be able to easily recognize that the style of language used in the Hobbit is simpler than LOTR. And so are the story elements used. Because it's for a younger audience, purposefully.
On top of that, if you look into the history of how and why the Hobbit got written, you will find out that it was originally a bedtime story that Tolkien told to his kids.
I work in a library, and I frequently refer to the Hobbit as "the gateway drug" for the works of Tolkien. Because it's an easy place to start. You dip your toes in, you decide if you like hobbits or not, or if you like this type of fantasy adventure or not, then you can go from there. BECAUSE IT'S FOR KIDS.
I personally read it at around 8 years old, probably. And it was fine. I loved it. And now I give it to a bunch of other kids at my job and guess what? They love it too.
FFS. Let kids read the Hobbit.

my fellow trans people: all of the answers are in the river. you just need to go to the river and everything will make sense. a lake or ocean are fine substitutions. find the water and go to it. bring your friends. go alone. have a beer.
this really spoke to me, as a trans hippie shut-in.
find the water and go to it. 👍
i'm finally getting caught up on cr4 e31 and man. the clear influences of the player's real life culture in their characters (and in the worldbuilding in brennan's case) is amazing and adds such a richness. like thaisha is so clearly influenced by like. black american folk culture Especially with the orcish revolutionaries. idk if liam is irish but he's at least running with a lot of the irish american working class stuff brennan injected into the world in terms of the hal and the culture of the round. and azune's whole bit about not having anyone to speak his native language to and his disconnect to his own identity (diaspora narrative). i Love when real world cultures are reflected in fiction it's so good.
#and what Robbie is doing with Katt seems to be very much exploring the unchecked violence against native women and children in the USA
oh fuck you're right. you're totally right that's exactly the allegory.
