does anyone ever think about how burrich told fitz that his Wit was perverted and would debase him, that the way he connected with other living beings and to the animals around him that he loved would be his downfall. and then does anyone remember how again and again fitz was saved and chose to live because of his connection to his canine companions. how he didn't kill himself because smithy needed him. how nosy was taken from him but returned to the story later to save his life and drag him from the water when he was certainly going to die. that burrich also lived because of smithy. you ever think about what culture thinks of as perverse and disgusting and against human nature and how people internalise that and in an effort to save others who are like them from societies cruelty, dole out their own cruelty by being the first to tell them what they are is wrong and must be hidden. anyway
I finished it! By far my most insane fan project: A (hopefully) complete Farseer Family Tree from Robin Hobb's Realm of the Elderlings.
I guess I can sleep now?
Notes under the cut :)
First: this section of the family tree tortured me, stole my sleep, worsened my crops, etc. FitzChivalry, you messy bitch.
Second, I considered drawing updated Burrichsons, but they barely feature in the final trilogy and in all honesty, I was tired. I did, however, update Fitz, Nettle, Hap, Dutiful and Elliania; it felt necessary, especially for the younger ones who'd been children in the last family tree.
Three: there's a very brief mention in Fool's Assassin that Prince Integrity looks like Kettricken's brother Rurisk, so I gave him Kett's colouring, but with the Farseer nose and his mother's dark eyes. Prosper has his father's curl texture but his mother's nose and eyes; I imagine he'll grow up to look a lot like his dad.
Fourthly, Riddle, my love. There's no description of him other than a Buck man who seems young and cheeky to Fitz in The Tawny Man trilogy, so I dressed him in Mountain Kingdom colours for Spruce Keep and had fun with the rest.
Hap's hair grew out curlier as he aged and I wanted him to look like the kind of bard people swoon for; I hope I got it.
Fifthly, you can pry Fitz's badgerlock from my cold, dead hands. I do not care if he doesn't have it in canon after Tawny Man. I don't care. It's there.
Finally, I tried so hard to make Bee look like both her fathers (especially referencing my portrait of The Fool in his Buckkeep era) but I gave her her mama's nose. I realised she looks quite like Hearth Burrichson (but with very different colouring) when I put them side-by-side, and I like that! Her mother's baby.

6. kyle haven by virtue of being named kyle in a world where people are named oettre and kettricken and thymara.
7. small ferret.
8. the dragon spit who named himself spit because he spits a lot and everyone hates him because he sucks what a fucking legend.
9. civil bresinga.
10. the liveship ophelia who learned that she was an artificial consciousness embedded in the dead womb of a hatchling dragon and said that was absolutely none of her fucking business and kept on trucking while every other boat tried to kill itself.
