Thinking about the 1998 hit cartoon classic movie: A Bug's Life. You know, the one with all the grasshoppers extorting food from the ants.

It had a lot of timeless lessons, such as:

Respect for the performing arts

The importance of engineering

Deposed dictators getting eaten alive

The power of friendship

Always be yourself, even if you don't fit in

In the chronic illness and neurodivergent community, something I hear a lot is “they wouldn’t say this to a paralyzed person/someone in a wheelchair.”

My response? Oh yes they would.

You think you’d be better off with a visible disability, but It’s really not any better. I was paralyzed at 15, and if you think people treat me better than when I was invisibly disabled, think again.

You have no idea what people say to me. The amount of curses, slurs, and insensitive or openly eugenicist remarks that get thrown at me would shock you.
