Reintroducing myself since I've missed out some big stuff.

I'm Fredi, I'm a modern orthodox, married, Jewish woman living in Jerusalem. I grew up in more Reform/Conservative Jewish spaces, and have a great admiration for them. I just found my place best in modern orthodoxy. I don't think orthodoxy is right for everyone, but it is for me.

I originally grew up in the American midwest and made aliyah close to a decade ago.

My education is in international relations and international law and I do occasionally talk about those on this blog.

Beyond that, I'm into fiber arts, dogs, various shifting fandoms, and just vibing on Tumblr.

Watching videos women make of their man just charging off without them and not looking back filled with comments from women telling stories of their husbands leaving them in the dust (sometimes with the children!) and it just makes my heart ache for Orpheus and Eurydice even more. Women would kill to have their husband look back for them. Eurydice died because he did.

It was an act of doubt that doomed them but that doubt was driven by so much love.

watched the hadestown proshot yesterday and. songbird vs. rattlesnake and flowers have always both held a shit ton of sexual abuse undertones but god you could really see it in the proshot. the fact that hades tells persephone that if she "doesn't want my love, I'll give it someone else who does" then immediately turns to Eurydice as he continues. the expression of fear on persephone's face. the fact that eurydice is so terrified yet just a bit entranced by him, but also needs what he has. orpheus jumping between eurydice and hades during way down hadestown-- which feels funny at first because it's itty bitty orpheus trying his best to protect her from Hades-- and then not being able to keep her from him, anyways. it makes me think of how people stay in abusive relationships because they can't financially support themselves or because it's all they know, because it's safer than doing what you truly love, and they can't afford to be unsafe. it's bad for her, and she hates it, but she needs to survive so bad that she can't say no.

Feel like I should update.

I got rejected from the whatever job that I interviewed for last week.

Fine, it happens, it was good practice.

This week the very cool job is allowed to call me (think government jobs and similar that have very strict processes)

So we're hoping really really hard.

The desire to quit the current job remains, but has lessened.

Packing to move begins this week, which is exciting! We've lived in the same place for nearly four years, and we're not going far, but it'll be a bigger place, where we hope to have a puppy, and babies (bezh) and that's exciting and terrifying and a lot.

for a long time now, one of my go-to phrases is "shake it like a can of beans." im not really sure where this came from, but i've been saying it for three years or so. it never really occurred to me that this was unusual until yesterday when i was bouncing a baby in a rocker a little too violently (he was having a great time, it just wasnt exactly sending him to sleep) and i went "sorry, im shaking him like a can of beans over here" and both my coworkers reacted like i had said something insane

list of other things i've said that my coworkers really like:

everybody in the club getting baby (when 5 or more babies are fussy)

going absolute baby mode over there/he's activating baby mode (when the 10 month old is having a fit)

i play my blue eyed white baby (said when setting a specific baby on the floor)

sick 'em! (said when setting any other baby on the floor)

call her regina, she's a little bit dramatic (this is one of my go to phrases)

into the gladiator pit!/hey have you ever seen gladiator? (when two babies start wrestling/fighting) (i have not seen gladiator)

she's ready for college (when the three month old lifts her head to look around)

lock in, brother (i say this the most)

i say most of these phrases at least daily.

one of the babies was getting picked up and started screaming as soon as her dad pulled her from her crib (where she'd been sleeping) and i instinctively said "that's what we in the industry call: baby moding" and he started laughing so hard he almost dropped her

omg please (only if you want of course) expand on what you said about omegaverse being Wrong about dog sex

well there's a few different things but here's my primary objections, based on my personal experience assisting with dog breeding:

- knotting itself REALLY does not seem fun for most dogs (Glimmer disagrees but she is. an outlier in my experience.) they definitely are compelled to mate, and I think that must be enjoyable, but once the tie happens most dogs are immediately like "goddammit" and just stand around in a state of chagrined regret for twenty minutes. the most extreme version of post nut clarity. some of them REALLY hate it and you have to grab the bitch to prevent her from trying to run off with the dog's dick still in there bc she could potentially really hurt him. so there is a lot of comedy potential there imo. firstly you're stuck together for half an hour and it's deeply inconvenient. what if one of you needs to get up and grab something off the dresser. imagine the stupid little shuffling walk they'd have to do. and then also imagine if there was a very real danger that someone would freak out and try to Escape your dick in a blind panic and you'd have to try to keep them calm so they didn't give you some sort of dick injury? very funny.

- on a more social implications level, I think it is cowardly to not do a left hand of darkness thing where when someone ISN'T in heat, sex simply Does Not Occur. Ever. as in it is physiologically*not possible* to have sex outside of heats, and no one has any interest in it. that would change human society SO much & is a really fascinating world building scenario, imo, and I think it's really weaksauce that ppl aren't exploring it. heat cycles exist because of a very very different model of ovulation cycles that result in pretty extreme physiological and therefore social differences re: sex, and I think that's interesting to think about in terms of human social structures and how much they would be changed if our reproductive cycles worked more like dogs!

anyway. obvious disclaimer that I have not Read Every Omegaverse Fic and I'm sure some people are exploring things thoughtfully because the world is full of a diversity of human experiences. but IN GENERAL, in the most prevalent media depictions, there is a profound intellectual laziness that I simply cannot respect. i understand that it's just about being horny. but please can't ppl try to be horny in a more thoughtful and interesting way. incurious horniness is nothing to me
