okay it's 12:40 am but i'm going to say my one last opinion about stolitz in this episode before going to sleep.

Stolas wasn't embarassed of Blitzo

Holy. Fucking. Shit. I thought that was obvious but apparently not.

That's what Blitzo thought obviously as we can tell from the whole flinch, horrified look on his face

but that doesn't mean it's what happened. I thought it had already been established that Blitzo is an incredibly unreliable narrator. Yes, Blitzo was being pushed through the rough by Verossika and Asmodeus and needed Stolas to defend him.

But Stolas?

Stolas was being laughed at, humiliated in public, and he couldn't defend himself because no matter what he said he couldn't prove Asmodeus wrong. He looks around to see everyone in the entire audience laughing at him.

He had given up his wife and kid for an imp who wasn't even happy to be around him, who had ignored him throughout this entire debacle. Just like Blitzo needed Stolas to defend him, Stolas needed Blitzo to reassure him.

and neither did that okay?

Stolas chose to hide rather than face what appeared to be an incredibly humiliating situation (not because of blitzo, but because they had exposed his family issues to the entire fucking crowd. lol), and Blitzo? Blitzo was hurt, he was angry, he was terrified and insecure. But he chose to keep that in. He didn't communicate his feelings or wants or needs to Stolas and unfortunately, reading minds appears to be out of the arsenal of eldritch horrors.

Both fucked up here. Both had their insecurities thrown in their faces. Both didn't take the last line to reach out to each other.

And if Stolas chose to deal with that by attempting to bridge the gap between him and Blitzo? If he chose to seek out some non-sexual affection after it being strongly implied he fucks up his relationships? Can't fucking blame him.

And if Blitzo chose to deal with it by closing off? If he chose to hide from a relationship he felt was close to ending anyways? If he chose to close himself off from Stolas before he was abandoned yet again? Can't fucking blame him either.

The point of a game bird’s existence is survival, and so any game bird that is still alive is considered to be perfectly meeting its standard of perfection. If it exists, it is perfect.

imo people are not that different. An individual’s standard of perfection is to exist as themselves, which is something no one else can actually do. If you are doing that, if you exist, you are meeting the unique standard of perfection for a you. You are a perfect you.

So now you know. You are at least as perfect as a game bird.

And that’s amazing!

it’s kind of weird how we’re culturally not supposed to admit that we do things for money and/or attention. Like I’m not going to work because i’m a team player or because I care about the company mission, I’m going so I can pay rent and buy food. I’m not publishing my fanfic because I’m passionate about writing or because I only care about art in its purest form, I’m publishing it because I want attention. If I didn’t want attention, I’d leave it on my hard drive. Really, why are we supposed to pretend to have “better” motivations?

the magnus archives is a genuinely well written piece of contemporary cosmic horror media that makes a lot of interesting and thoughtful commentary about the nature of humanity but nothing, and i mean nothing, will ever top the moment when one of the characters calls the man who successfully brought about the apocalypse by summoning fourteen eldritch abominations that exist by causing and feeding on fear and can harness their power to smite you from existence by literally forcing you to experience the collective terror of every living being on earth a "special little boy"

Shinsou is in the new team up mission spin off, which I talked about a little bit here.

The basic gist of this chapter is: aizawa sends shinsou to the mall to buy a ganriki neko toy for eri. At the same time, class A is trying to come up with ideas for a room for shinsou, so they decide to follow him around the mall and base their entire room off of the ganriki neko toy, since they assume shinsou is buying it for himself. While at the mall, there's a huge robbery and shinsou has to work together with the class A kids to catch the culprit and clear the name of a worker with a 'villainous quirk'.

Except...

I just saw some of the panels and it turns out AIZAWA DID NOT TELL SHINSOU WHO THE TOY WAS FOR UNTIL AFTER HE BROUGHT IT TO HIM

In the second panel where aizawa and shinsou are talking to each other, shinsou basically says "eraser, is this for you?" And aizawa replies "no, it's a toy for eri-chan."

Meaning

Shinsou went to a mall and went through a fucking ROBBERY all while thinking he was buying a toy for a 31 YEAR OLD MAN

And he apparently did not think this was strange at all

like it feels Good to look in the mirror and say Wow i feel pretty, it’s a nice moment and i’m not condemning it, but it’s a tenuous position. if you position yourself to feel good about being pretty, you’re still vulnerable to Ugly, and pretty is not a sustainable state. no matter how far you extend the concept of beauty, it’s still based in rules established by societal standards that realistically one cannot be perfectly held up to.
