In the last 4 months I’ve spent around 800 hours making 80 pages of Free Money, a comic that is I have distributed for free in my city, donating roughly $35,000* worth of comics to the people of Pittsburgh PA. Next month after issue 5 comes out you can bump those figures by a cool 20%. I have biked walked and drove all over the city with hundreds of pounds of comics on my back, I have grown as an illustrator and story teller, and I have to admit I’m guilty of pride. I’m taking this moment to pat myself on the back and say thank you.

Thank to that young woman at the Pizzeria who leaned over the counter and yelled, “finally I’ve been waiting forever,” when I walked in with a stack of Issue #4. Thanks to the guy at the bar that screamed when he found out I was the “Free Money guy.”

Divergence of Productivity and Pay

While I was doing research for the January FREE MONEY MONTHLY WORKSHEET I found this wonderful chart from the Economic Policy institute. Theoretically productivity and profit should be linked, and it used to be in the US. For 3 decades after WWII pay rose in tandem with national productivity across the socioeconomic spectrum, but since the 70s that has been less and less the case. Every year less of the profit from productivity goes to the 95% of Americans producing. Even the bottom half of the richest 10% are being left behind, and 95th-99th percentile are only holding even. So where is all that profit going? You guessed it.
