Stanford, visibly exhausted and nervously sweating, looks up at Fiddleford with a strained smile and clutches at Fiddleford’s jacket, pleading “You’re gonna save me, right?”
The angle changes: only Stanford’s hands are visible, loosening their grip, as Fiddleford looks ahead blankly, his glasses opaque and blocking the view of his eyes. Fiddleford asks “…why did you call me?”
Stanford’s eyes go wide in realization as Fiddleford blankly continues “I have a family, Ford. I can’t save you.”
There are two detail panels smaller than the rest. One is of Fiddleford’s chest and lower face. Fiddleford begins to smile, and one of his eyes, colored yellow, is visible in his glasses. Ford’s hands, pressed to Fiddleford’s chest, are visible and one is beginning to shake. The second detail panel is of Ford’s eyes, gone wide from surprise and beginning to tear up. “Oh,” Stanford realizes, moving his hands to Fiddleford’s shoulders. Half of Stanford’s shirt is untucked, and he is beginning to weep.
“…You didn’t come back…” Stanford continues. “Right.” As he speaks, he begins to lower his head to Fiddleford’s chest, and Fiddleford begins to smile ominously, Stanford’s first speech bubble blocking his eyes.
“…You left for good…” Stanford says, pressing his face into Fiddleford’s chest. “Yeah.” Fiddleford is fading away, almost entirely grayed out, with yellow reflected in his glasses.
“…Then,” Stanford says with his arms wrapped around his chest, “I’m still here…” with a faint, dark outline of Bill in front of him.]
