different... Hans x anna
"This is going differently than I imagined.” - @thearendellianheir
Hans found himself wondering if he had made a mistake by asking Queen Anna to dance. The question had seemed harmless in the moment, yet now that they stood together, doubt quietly settled in the back of his mind. After everything that had happened between them, he couldn't help but question not only why he had asked, but why she had agreed.
The Kingdom of the Southern Isles had spent years attempting to repair the damage Hans himself had caused. Diplomats had exchanged letters, trade agreements had been restored, and every effort had been made to mend the fractured relationship between their kingdoms. Even so, Hans knew his own presence in Arendelle remained something few people truly welcomed. He had been tolerated for the sake of diplomacy, nothing more. He certainly had never expected to share a dance with its queen.
"You mean... us dancing?" he asked carefully, wanting to be absolutely certain that was what she meant.
His voice carried genuine uncertainty rather than disbelief. Once, long ago, he had loved dancing with Anna. In those brief days before everything unraveled, he had enjoyed every moment they had spent together. And before Elsa's magic had frozen his heart, before bitterness and ambition had twisted his judgment into something unrecognizable, he had believed—perhaps foolishly—that his feelings for Anna had been real.
But how could he possibly explain something like that to the woman standing before him now? How could he tell the Queen of Arendelle that the man who had betrayed her and the man standing before her today no longer felt like the same person, when he barely understood it himself?

白色情人节快乐🤍
For days Elsa had insisted on a proper party. At first Anna had tried to resist, remembering all too well what had happened the last time her sister wanted to throw a grand celebration in her honor and had ended up with a fever. She had told her sister over and over again that she did not need anything grand and that there were far more important things to focus on than her birthday, especially since becoming queen of Arendelle. A small dinner with herself, Elsa, Kristoff, Sven and Olaf would have suited her just fine, but her older sister had looked at her with that familiar determination she possessed and eventually Anna had caved.
On the day of the actual party, Elsa had taken great care to transform the great hall for the celebrations. Garlands of sunflowers and crocuses were scattered throughout the hall, bright ribbons and streamers of warm golden fabric were draped between the marble pillars and delicate ice sculptures stood along the walls shaped into flowers, butterflies and other signs of summer, each one glittering softly in the candlelight.
At the dessert table Elsa had outdone herself, or gone slightly overboard depending on how you viewed it. There were cakes, pastries, sugared fruits and an entire chocolate buffet consisting of chocolate cake, chocolate - dipped strawberries, smaller chocolate tarts and of course a big fountain of chocolate that had made Anna gasp the moment she saw it. All evening she had been enjoying the music, the dancing, talking to her guests and stuffing her face full with chocolate treats. As she reached for another small chocolate tart, she suddenly heard a voice behind her that made her go utterly still and her blood turn cold.
For a few seconds she thought she had imagined it, but she could feel his presence behind her. Turning slowly, the smile on her face faded as her gaze settled upon him.
"Hans..." his name left her quietly in a voice that sounded startled and almost too controlled. Her gaze flickered briefly over the room, taking in the nearby guests who glanced their way, curious about Anna's sudden stillness. She took a deep breath, forcing herself to breathe. This was her birthday, yes, and she had not invited Hans to the celebrations, but this was also Arendelle, which she was now queen of and she would not let panic ripple through the room and startle the guests if she could help it.
Her fingers tightened around the edge of her dessert plate before she carefully set it down, as if the small action might steady her. Anna's gaze dropped briefly to the gift in his hands and something in her expression flickered despite herself. Chocolate. Of course he had remembered her love for the sweet. For a moment the gesture of it almost seemed to make it worse.
"I didn't know you were coming" she said, trying to keep her voice as calm as possible and stop it from shaking. "No one told me" she continued, while keeping her voice low so it wouldn't carry far beyond the two of them. Her eyes lifted back up to his face, searching it before she could stop herself, still feeling startled at the fact that he was standing in front of her. He looked different from the last time she had seen him somehow, less certain and less polished, but she was not about to fall so easily for his charm as she had done back then. She was not foolish enough to forget what it had almost cost her. "That's...quite a gift" she added after a beat, as she glanced down at the fountain again, "Thank you", she stated as she folded her hands tightly in front of her, her shoulders still tense.
"I won't pretend this is easy. Seeing you here after...everything, but I won't send you away. I don't want to cause a scene in front of everyone" her voice softened slightly, though still staying firm. "You can stay for now Hans, but whatever reason brought you here, you need to understand that a birthday gift and greeting doesn't erase what happened." Her gaze flicked once more to the fountain, a small, conflicted breath escaping her.
"Even if it is a very good birthday gift" she added quietly, the faintest trace of her younger self slipping through before her expression steadied once more as she looked back up at him, waiting to see what he would do with the olive branch she had just offered him.
Of course, Hans knew the gift could never erase what had happened all those years ago. No wrapped package, no carefully chosen words, no amount of regret could undo the pain he had caused. Yet he had brought it anyway. Not because he expected forgiveness, but because doing nothing somehow felt worse.
Her eyes were cold.
The realization struck harder than any blade ever could.
Once, those eyes had lit up whenever he entered a room. Once, they had looked at him with warmth, trust, and affection. Now there was nothing but distance. It felt strange, almost cruel, that he could remember every detail so vividly while she looked at him as though he were a stranger she had tolerated for too long.
Something twisted painfully in his chest.
Hans coughed lightly into his hand and lowered his gaze. He did not entirely know why he had come. He had spent hours debating it with himself. Part of him knew he should have stayed away. Another part had simply needed to see her. Needed to know she was still there.
This was the woman he had once loved more deeply than he had ever thought possible.
And now she looked at him the same way he looked at the stable boy's shovel after a long day of cleaning horse manure.
The comparison almost made him laugh.
Almost.
"Anna..."
Her name left his lips softly, barely louder than the wind around them. It lingered between them, suspended in the silence.
"I just... wanted to say something."
He swallowed.
"No. It's important that you hear this."
His fingers tightened around themselves behind his back.
"Thank you for being born."
A weak smile touched his lips.
"Thank you for leading this kingdom. Thank you for becoming the woman you are today. And..." His voice wavered. "Thank you for loving me, once."
The words hurt more than he had expected.
He looked away for a moment, gathering what little courage remained.
"I cannot pretend that I don't regret what happened. Not a day passes that I don't think about it. Not a day passes that I don't wish I could go back and change it."
His throat tightened.
"I never meant..."
The sentence died there.
How could he explain something that sounded impossible?
How could he tell her that the ice had reached deeper than anyone realized? That Elsa's magic had frozen more than flesh and bone? That the cold had wrapped itself around his heart until he barely recognized himself?
That he had pushed her away not because he had stopped loving her, but because he had become incapable of feeling what he once had?
The explanation sounded pathetic even inside his own head.
And perhaps it no longer mattered.
Years had passed.
The damage had been done.
Anna had built a life without him.
So Hans simply shook his head and let the unfinished words disappear.
"I..." He exhaled slowly. "I suppose none of that changes anything now."
Another silence settled between them.
This one felt final.
He offered a small bow, more respectful than royal.
"I wish you a pleasant day, Anna."
His voice had become quiet again.
"I only wanted to make sure you were alright. To see that you were happy."
For a brief moment his eyes met hers, and despite everything, there was still tenderness there.
The kind that never truly leaves.
The kind that lingers long after love has become a memory.
"I'm sorry," he whispered.
And for once, the words carried no excuses.
Only regret.

Happy birthday...Anna of Arendelle
@thearendellianheir
There was shame rushing through his veins when he learned that it was Anna's birthday. He had betrayed her in a moment when she had needed him most and had nearly taken her life. The memory haunted him more often than he cared to admit. Sure, he hadn't known that his heart had been frozen by the Arendelle Queen, Queen Elsa. At the time, all he had felt was anger, bitterness, and a desperate need to grasp something—anything—that would finally belong to him.
But excuses felt hollow now.
The magic was gone. The ice that had poisoned his heart had melted away, leaving him alone with the consequences of his actions. No enchantment could take away the guilt. No spell could erase the hurt he had caused. And now that he had lost her, he could not help but feel one thing: regret.
For weeks, he had debated whether he should come at all. Perhaps Anna would rather never see him again. Perhaps she would order him removed before he could even speak. Yet despite the fear twisting in his stomach, he found himself unable to stay away. It was her birthday, and he wanted—needed—to do something right for once.
Thus, with sweaty palms and an unsteady heart, he made his way toward the gathering. Cradled carefully in his hands was his gift: a chocolate fountain crafted from the richest chocolate imported from the Southern Isles. It was extravagant, perhaps even foolish, but he remembered how brightly her eyes lit up whenever sweets were involved. If nothing else, maybe it would make her smile.
Stopping a few feet away, he swallowed hard. His throat felt dry, and for a moment he considered turning around and leaving before she noticed him. Yet he forced himself to remain where he stood.
"Happy birthday, Anna."
The words were quiet, lacking the confidence he once carried so effortlessly. His gaze lingered on her face, searching for any sign that he had made a mistake by coming. Fear gripped him tightly—not fear for himself, but fear of being sent away, fear of seeing disappointment in her eyes, fear of losing whatever fragile chance remained between them.
And so he waited, gift in hand, hoping she would allow him to stay, if only for a little while.
