An Ode to 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' by David Gate
unironically, one of my favourite pieces of horror writing is victor hugo's description of an octopus
I was weak. That’s why I needed you. Needed someone to punish me for my sins. - Silent Hill 2
“Hickey’s” ghosts.
(I wanted an excuse to draw some ghosts. To my own surprise, I did love the supernatural aspect of the series, and since we already know that soul-eating creatures are canon, the presence of some longing ghosts could be in tune with the mysterious vibe of the story. The transparent apparition standing in the distance, the misty figure barely visible, trembling in the wind, before floating up the hill and disappearing in the fog. I found it essential to illustrate this humble proposal.
The ghosts came out similar to the ghosts in the Crimson Peak, and although it wasn’t intentional or planned, let’s just say it is vaguely inspired by the movie.)
favorite tropes: small town with a dark secret

a woman’s face at the end of a horror/thriller movie? where she has that serene expression on her face - whether it shows peace, joy, a bone-deep exhaustion, satisfaction, or simply growing insanity? with her skin absolutely dripping with blood and grime, her clothes torn and ragged, and her being illuminated by police lights and/or a raging fire? that’s some fine-fucking-art

what she says: I’m fine
what she means: why is Dorian Gray never played by people with blond hair? why is Dorian always depicted as all pale and dark? oscar literally describes his hair as gold like two seconds after we meet him. directors apparently feel like they have to make Dorian look dark dangerous and brooding, but he’s not supposed to look dark and dangerous and brooding. That’s the whole point. No one ever suspects him because he looks like an innocent little cherub with golden curls and rosy cheeks. His physical appearance is described with terms that Western literary tradition, during the nineteenth century in particular, associated with goodness and godliness, and this is intentionally juxtaposed with the blackness of his soul. If you intentionally play him as someone who looks like a Byronic hero, much of the symbolism of his character is lost, right?
once, in boyish mockery of narcissus, he had kissed, or feigned to kiss, those painted lips that now smiled so cruelly at him
the black and white final for my concepts class
