Twice Redeemed (Sunset Shimmer's NEW Friend)
Sunset's Shimmer's character arc throughout the Equestria Girls series, specifically between the 2013 film and Forgotten Friendship really inspired me. Like, what if she offered another girl who is like her old self a second chance after she "almost" ruins the Fall Formal? This story I came up with takes place just 1 year after Sunset's big defeat as she uses this turning point and share her experience to guide the new girl down a new path, highlighting how far she's come from being a bully to a valued, empathetic member of the Humane 7.
Summary
Sunset Shimmer has evolved from a power-hungry antagonist into a compassionate, empathetic leader who has fully embraced the Magic of Friendship. Trading her former desire for dominance for a simple life of connection, she now finds her greatest sense of belonging as the emotional anchor for her friends, the Humane 7. However, her peaceful routine is interrupted when she encounters Selene Sapphire, a new student whose reliance on a magical purple diamond amulet mirrors Sunset's own dark past. Seeing a "sinister edge" in Selene that she knows all too well, a concerned Sunset realizes the artifact is corrupting the girl’s desire for attention into dangerous ambition. Determined to prevent history from repeating itself, she prepares to guide this reflection of her old self toward a better path before the corruption spirals out of control.
Long Synopsis
At Canterlot High, Sunset Shimmer pulls the new student, Selene Sapphire, into a quiet section of unused lockers for a private conversation after noticing her unusual behavior and the purple diamond amulet she always wears. Using her geode’s power, Sunset experiences Selene’s memories: as a child, Selene was constantly overlooked by her parents, who favored her brother, ignored by classmates who excluded her from games, and passed over by teachers who never called on her. One day, sitting alone on a park bench, young Selene found the sparkling amulet in the grass, put it on, and immediately began receiving the notice she had always craved. Over time, the amulet’s influence grew; people started listening to her, obeying her small demands, and giving her the respect she demanded, until she gradually shifted from simply wanting to be seen to quietly controlling those around her.
Back in the present, Sunset warns Selene that the amulet is dangerous and is already twisting her, especially now that Selene is running for Fall Formal Princess. Selene insists she is only using it as a harmless boost to ensure she is noticed and refuses to hand it over, though she agrees to think about toning down its effects. Concerned, Sunset returns to her apartment, messages Princess Twilight Sparkle through her journal, and receives urgent confirmation: the purple diamond amulet contains ancient dark magic that corrupts the wearer by amplifying their desire for attention until they lose themselves completely. Twilight stresses that the amulet must be destroyed entirely or the corruption will become permanent.
That evening at the Fall Formal, the gymnasium is filled with dancing students and festive decorations while the rest of the Humane 7 wait anxiously for Sunset. Selene stands apart, the amulet glowing faintly with an increasingly sinister edge. When Principal Celestia announces the Fall Formal Princess and names Rosie Greenfield the winner, Selene’s amulet flares with dark energy. She transforms into Dark Selene—skin darker, eyes glowing, hair wild—and unleashes chaotic dark magic that sends tables flying, tears down streamers, and rips a hole in the gymnasium roof. The Humane 6 activate their own magic to protect the students, but Dark Selene overpowers them with a massive blast of purple energy.
Sunset finally arrives, having rushed from her apartment, and bursts into the gym just as the battle intensifies. She steps forward and addresses Dark Selene directly, recounting her own past as a power-hungry bully who stole a crown and turned into a she-demon, only to realize that fear and forced respect left her lonelier than ever. Sunset explains that real connection comes from friendship —the late-night support, shared laughs, and quiet moments of trust—not from magic that forces people to obey. For a moment, Dark Selene hesitates, the dark glow in her eyes flickering. Realizing the destruction she has caused, she rips the amulet from her neck and throws it to the floor. Applejack smashes it with her super-strength geode, shattering it into glittering pieces. The dark magic vanishes instantly, the roof stops sparking, and Selene returns to her normal self.
Overwhelmed with remorse, Selene collapses in tears, convinced her life is ruined and that she no longer deserves any friends. Sunset kneels beside her, gently reassuring her that redemption is possible because Sunset herself once stood in the same place. She extends her hand and offers Selene a second chance, promising to walk the path with her just as others once did for Sunset. Selene accepts, pulling Sunset into a tight, tearful hug. The entire gymnasium erupts in heartfelt applause as the Humane 6 join them, forming a supportive circle around the two girls. Though the Fall Formal has been interrupted and the gym is damaged, a new friendship has begun, and Selene is free from the amulet’s shadow.

I'd like to think of, or in other words, picture this story as a special, like Dance, Movie, & Mirror Magic!
Scene 1A
Scene Setup: In a quiet, walled-off section of unused lockers at Canterlot High—still in perfect condition and tucked away from the main hallways after the final bell—Sunset Shimmer stands alone with the new student, Selene Sapphire. The area is dimly lit by a single overhead light, the distant chatter of kids heading home barely reaching them. Sunset has clearly pulled her here for a private talk. No one else is around.
Sunset Shimmer: (arms crossed) “Selene, we need to talk. I’ve been watching you these past two weeks.”
Selene Sapphire: (leaning back against a locker, one eyebrow raised) “Have you now? And here I thought I was just the new girl minding her business.”
Sunset Shimmer: (stepping closer, eyes narrowing at the purple diamond amulet around Selene’s neck) “It’s not just business. The way you’ve been acting around everyone… and the way they’ve been acting around you. It’s different. That look you get? I know that sinister edge all too well.”
Selene Sapphire: (smirking faintly, not moving) “Sinister? Please. I don’t pick fights. I don’t need friends. Unlike some people, I’m not here to run the school.”
Sunset Shimmer: (reaching out slowly, her geode necklace beginning to glow) “Maybe not. But something’s off, and I think it starts with that amulet. Let me understand… just for a second.”
(Sunset’s fingers brush Selene’s arm. Her geode flashes bright. Her eyes flash as the memories flood
in.)
Young Selene: (tugging at her mother’s sleeve at the dinner table, voice small) “Mom, did you see my report card? I got an A in
everything.”
Selene’s Mother: (stirring her coffee, eyes on her phone) “That’s nice, honey. Your brother has a big game tomorrow—pass the
salt?”
Young Selene: (slumping in her chair) “But… I studied every night.”
Selene’s Father: (laughing at something on the TV) “Kids, quiet down. We’re watching the highlights.”
Young Selene: (whispering to herself) “They never hear me…”
(The memory shifts to a crowded playground.)
Young Selene: (running up to a group of kids playing kickball) “Can I play too? I’m really good at kicking!”
Kid 1: (barely glancing her way, tossing the ball) “Nah, we already picked teams. Go play by yourself.”
Kid 2: (giggling as they run past) “Yeah, Selene’s always just… there. Like background.”
Young Selene: (standing alone, ball rolling away) “I said I’m good…”
(Another flash—inside a bright classroom.)
Young Selene: (hand shooting up high) “Teacher! I know the answer to the question! It’s the capital of—”
Teacher: (pointing straight past her) “Yes, Tommy? You had your hand up first.”
Young Selene: (hand slowly lowering) “But I knew it too…”
Teacher: (smiling at the other student) “Excellent, Tommy! Class, let’s give him a round of applause.”
Young Selene: (staring at her desk) “Why does no one ever pick me?”
(The visions swirl faster, showing more grown-ups and kids ignoring her in quick flashes—parents at a school event walking right past her, teachers calling on everyone but her, classmates laughing in circles she’s never invited into. Then the scene settles on Young Selene sitting alone on a park bench after school, shoulders shaking.)
Young Selene: (voice cracking, wiping her eyes) “I’m always overlooked… always pushed aside. No one respects me. No one even sees me. It’s like I don’t matter at all.”
Young Selene: (hugging her knees tighter) “If this is how it’s always going to be… what’s the point?”
(A sparkle catches her eye in the grass near the bench. She reaches down.)
Young Selene: (picking up the small purple diamond amulet, turning it in her hands) “Whoa… this is so pretty. Feels warm, too. I’ll hold onto it for safekeeping. Maybe it’s special.”
(She slips the chain around her neck. The memory jumps forward to the school hallway, the very next day.)
Young Selene: (wearing the amulet openly, walking up to the same group of kids) “Hey, everyone—check out what I found yesterday!”
Kid 1: (actually stopping and looking) “Selene? That necklace is awesome! Where did you get it?”
Kid 2: (crowding closer) “Yeah, it’s sparkling like magic or something. Tell us the story!”
Young Selene: (eyes widening, a small smile forming) “You… you’re actually listening? Finally.”
Kid 1: (nodding eagerly) “Totally. You should sit with us at lunch and show everyone.”
Young Selene: (standing a little taller) “Okay… I will.”
(The visions continue, days turning into weeks. The amulet stays around her neck as the scenes shift.)
Young Selene: (in class, voice more confident) “Teacher, I finished my project early. Everyone should look at mine first—it’s the best one.”
Teacher: (turning immediately) “Selene! Of course. Class, quiet down and pay attention to Selene’s work.”
Young Selene: (smiling wider) “See? They listen now.”
Classmate: (whispering but still focused on her) “Whoa, she’s right. It is the best.”
(Another shift—hallway, a few months later.)
Young Selene: (blocking a locker casually, amulet glowing faintly) “Hey, this spot’s mine now. You all can use the ones down there.”
Student: (hesitating but stepping back) “Uh… sure, Selene. Whatever you say.”
Young Selene: (crossing her arms) “Good. And don’t forget—when I talk, you listen. It’s only fair.”
Student 2: (nodding quickly) “Yeah, yeah. You’re always right about stuff.”
Young Selene: (voice sharpening just a touch) “Exactly. No more ignoring me. Ever.”
(The memories press on, showing her small demands growing.)
Young Selene: (at a group project table) “We’re doing it my way. I know what works. You all just follow along.”
Classmate 1: (reluctantly) “Okay… if you say so.”
Classmate 2: (quietly) “She’s kinda bossy lately…”
Young Selene: (overhearing but smiling) “Bossy? No. Just making sure I’m seen. Finally.”
Young Selene: (to herself in the mirror later, amulet shining) “This thing really works. They notice me now… but they’ll do what I want too. No friends needed. Just respect.”
Young Selene: (later still, in the cafeteria line) “Move up. I’m cutting in—everyone knows I go first these days.”
Kid behind her: (stepping aside without arguing) “Fine, Selene. Go ahead.”
Young Selene: (grinning) “Perfect. See? This is how it should be.”
(The visions spin faster, showing the slow twist—the amulet’s power feeding her ambition, turning small notices into quiet control, until the memories suddenly whirl to a stop.)
(Sunset snaps back to reality.)
Scene 1B
Scene Setup: The walled-off section of unused lockers at Canterlot High remains quiet after the vision fades. Sunset Shimmer stands there, blinking as the memories clear from her mind. Selene Sapphire adjusts the purple diamond amulet around her neck, looking slightly annoyed but composed. The two girls are still completely alone, the distant sounds of students leaving school echoing faintly.
Sunset Shimmer: (shaking her head to clear it, voice concerned) “Whoa… that was intense. Where did that amulet even come from, Selene? It wasn’t just some lucky find in the park, was it?”
Selene Sapphire: (touching the amulet lightly, smirking a little) “Does it matter? It showed up when I needed it most. That’s all you need to know.”
Sunset Shimmer: (stepping forward, eyes locked on the amulet) “It doesn't matter. I saw what it’s doing to you. The way it makes people notice you, listen to you… But it’s changing how they act. You’re using it to get by, to get attention. And now you’re running for Fall Formal Princess?”
Selene Sapphire: (crossing her arms, voice calm but confident) “It’s not like I’m using it to cheat in the running. I’m earning the votes fair and square. The amulet’s just… a little help. Ensures that people actually see me when I speak. That’s all.”
Sunset Shimmer: (gesturing toward the amulet) “A little help? I saw the memories. It started small, but it’s growing. You don’t need to manipulate everyone to feel respected. Real attention comes from being yourself, not from some magic trinket forcing it.”
Selene Sapphire: (rolling her eyes slightly, but her tone softens just a bit) “Manipulate? Please. I’m not hurting anyone. No bullying, no big schemes. I just want to be noticed for once. And if it helps me win the crown tonight… well, that’s a bonus. It’s only a precaution, Sunset. Nothing more.”
Sunset Shimmer: (voice firm, reaching out a hand) “Selene, listen to me. That thing is dangerous. It’s already corrupting you, bit by bit. Hand it over before it gets worse. You don’t have to do this alone. My friends and I—we can help you through it.”
Selene Sapphire: (pulling back, clutching the amulet protectively) “No way. I’m keeping it. It’s mine. But I will think about what you said. Maybe tone it down a little. I’m not completely ignoring you.”
(She pauses, a self-assured smile creeping onto her face.)
Selene Sapphire: “I’ll see you tonight at the Fall Formal, assuming you make it there. For what it’s worth, I do hope you and your friends have fun. Who knows? Maybe I’ll even win that crown fair and square. Fifty-fifty chance, right? And hey—I still don’t need friends to do it.”
Sunset Shimmer: (watching her warily, arms dropping to her sides) “Selene, wait—”
Selene Sapphire: (turning and walking away down the hallway, waving over her shoulder without looking back) “Later, Sunset. Try not to worry too much.”
(Sunset stands there alone now, staring after Selene as the new girl disappears around the corner. The orange teen’s expression stays tense, her geode still faintly glowing.)
Sunset Shimmer: (to herself, voice low and serious) “It’s not worth anything if it gets out of control. That amulet’s already got its hooks in her. Twilight must know something about it… I have to tell her right away.”
(Sunset pulls out her journal, flipping it open as she starts walking quickly in the opposite direction, determination clear on her face.)
Scene 2
Scene Setup: Later that evening in Sunset Shimmer’s cozy apartment, the last hints of daylight are fading from the sky outside the window, giving way to a deep purple twilight. The room is softly lit by a desk lamp. Sunset sits at her small wooden desk, journal open in front of her, pen in hand. She’s still in her casual school clothes, geode necklace glowing faintly as she writes a follow-up message.
Sunset Shimmer: (leaning forward, scribbling quickly) “Dear Princess Twilight, it’s me again. Sorry to bug you so soon after the note I sent from school, but I had to check in. That new girl, Selene Sapphire, and her purple diamond amulet… I saw her memories with my geode. It’s exactly like my old crown situation, only slower. She’s not trying to rule the school or anything, but the way it’s making everyone pay attention to her… I’m worried. If you’ve got any info on artifacts like this, I could really use it. She’s running for Fall Formal Princess tonight, and I don’t want things to spiral. Your friend, Sunset.”
(She sets the pen down and stares at the page, tapping her fingers on the desk.)
Sunset Shimmer: (muttering to herself) “Come on, Twilight… I know you’re busy with princess stuff, but this feels important. Selene’s not evil or anything, but that amulet’s got the same vibe my old self did.”
(Her phone buzzes on the desk. She picks it up and reads the screen.)
Pinkie Pie (text message): “SUNSET!!! Where r u?! The Fall Formal is in FULL SWING, and you’re missing ALL the fun!!! Balloons,
punch, dancing—Rarity made the cutest decorations EVER!!! Hurry, hurry, hurry!! 🎉💖”
Sunset Shimmer: (smiling a little despite herself, thumbs flying over the phone) “Haha, sorry, Pinkie! Got caught up with something important. I’ll catch up with you girls as soon as I can—promise. Save me a dance and some of that punch, okay? Be there soon!”
(She hits send and sets the phone down. Just then, the pages of her journal begin to glow with a soft magenta light. New words appear in Twilight’s neat, familiar handwriting.)
Princess Twilight Sparkle: (words shimmering into view in the journal) “Sunset! Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry for the delay! My royal duties have been nonstop today—meetings with the griffons, a friendship summit in the Crystal Empire, and then helping Spike organize the new library wing. I’ve only just got back to the castle and saw both your messages. Are you dealing with a purple
diamond amulet? I pulled every scroll I could find on dark magical artifacts, and… it matches something ancient from the restricted archives.”
(Sunset leans in closer, reading intently as more words form.)
Princess Twilight Sparkle: (continued in the journal) “It’s plagued with dark magic that corrupts the wearer over time. The more power the user draws from it, the stronger the hold becomes. It starts by making people notice you, listen to you… But it twists things. The wearer risks losing touch with the reasons they wanted that attention in the first place. I hate to say it, but if it keeps going unchecked, there might not be a way back. That amulet can and must be destroyed—completely. Otherwise, the corruption just keeps building, and Selene may never be brought back. Please be
careful, Sunset. You stopped your own dark path once. You can help her, too.”
Sunset Shimmer: (reading the last lines, eyes widening, voice determined) “Lose touch… yeah, I know exactly what that feels like. No way I’m letting Selene turn into a spinning image of who I used to be. She’s not becoming some power-hungry monster on my watch.”
(She grabs her pen again and writes quickly, the journal glowing as she replies.)
Sunset Shimmer: (writing, voice steady) “Thanks, Twilight. I mean it—that info is exactly what I needed. I’ll handle the amulet tonight at the Formal. No sitting on the sidelines this time. You’re the best. Talk soon!”
(She closes the journal with a soft snap, stands up, and heads to her closet. In one quick motion, she slips out of her day clothes and into her favorite spaghetti-strap dress—the sleek orange & black one with the subtle red accents that hugs her figure just right. She checks herself in the mirror, adjusts her geode necklace so it sits perfectly, and grabs her jacket.)
Sunset Shimmer: (to herself in the mirror, voice firm) “Alright, Selene. Time to end this before it gets out of control. The girls are waiting, and so is that Formal.”
(She takes a deep breath, turns off the desk lamp, and heads for the door. Sunset steps out into the hallway of her apartment building, the night air cool against her skin as she pulls the door shut behind her with a quiet click.)
Scene 3
Scene Setup: The Fall Formal is in full swing inside the brightly decorated Canterlot High gymnasium. Colorful streamers, sparkling lights, and a large disco ball cast a festive glow over the crowded dance floor. Music pulses through the speakers as students laugh, chat, dance, and enjoy punch and snacks at the refreshment tables. The Humane 7 are clustered together near the edge of the dance floor, clearly enjoying themselves as much as possible.
Rainbow Dash: (wiping sweat from her forehead, grinning widely after stepping away from a dance-off circle) “Whew! Those guys were actually pretty good. Almost kept up with me! But nobody beats Rainbow Dash on the dance floor for long.”
Applejack: (chuckling, tipping her hat back) “Easy there, Sugarcube. You were havin’ fun, but don’t go gettin’ a big head now.”
Sci-Twi: (adjusting her glasses, looking around the gym with a slight frown) “Girls, I’m starting to get a little worried. Sunset’s running really late. She said she’d be here soon, but it’s been a while. I hope nothing’s wrong.”
Pinkie Pie: (bouncing on her toes, holding a cup of bright pink punch) “Don’t worry, your pretty purple head, Twilight! She texted me earlier. She’ll be here super soon! Something about getting caught up with something important. Probably super- secret magic stuff again!”
Applejack: (crossing her arms, glancing toward the far side of the gym) “You think it may have something to do with Selene and that piece of jewelry she’s always wearin’? Sunset seemed mighty concerned about it after school.”
Rarity: (sipping elegantly from her own cup) “Oh, I do hope not, darling. The poor dear seemed rather… intense about it. But tonight is supposed to be fun! We mustn’t let worry ruin the evening.”
(Across the gym, Selene Sapphire stands alone, leaning against a decorated wall near the bleachers. The purple diamond amulet around her neck glows with a faint, ominous light. Her expression has shifted—eyes slightly narrowed with a darker, more sinister edge that only the Humane 7 seem to notice. Most other students are too busy dancing and laughing to pay attention.)
Fluttershy: (peeking nervously from behind her friends, voice soft and shaky) “Um… her face looks really scary right now. It reminds me of the old Sunset Shimmer… you know, back when she wanted to rule the whole school and turned into that awful she-demon.”
Rainbow Dash: (following Fluttershy’s gaze, frowning) “Yeah, I see it too. That amulet’s doing something weird to her. She’s not yelling at anyone or anything, but that look… It’s not right.”
Sci-Twi: (pushing up her glasses again, analytical tone) “If the amulet is feeding on her desire for attention like Sunset described, the corruption could be accelerating. We should keep an eye on her until Sunset gets here.”
Applejack: (nodding firmly) “Agreed. Last thing we need is another Fall Formal catastrophe.”
Rarity: (placing a hand dramatically on her chest) “That was a year ago, darling! We’ll be lucky if Sunset can get through to her in time. But we must stay positive. Perhaps a friendly chat could help before things get out of hoof—I mean, hand!”
Pinkie Pie: (giggling, though her eyes stay on Selene) “Ooh, or maybe some party games to loosen her up! Nobody can stay
sinister with a good game of Pin the Tail on the Pony!”
Fluttershy: (whispering) “I just hope Sunset hurries… Selene looks like she’s getting worse by the minute.”
(Meanwhile, several blocks away from Canterlot High, Sunset Shimmer hurries along the sidewalk in her sleek orange & black spaghetti-strap dress. The dress is still in relatively good condition despite a couple of small snags from rushing through a shortcut earlier. Streetlights flicker on as night fully settles in. She’s breathing a bit heavily, clearly having run part of the way.)
Sunset Shimmer: (checking her phone for the time, voice frustrated but determined) “Come on, come on… I’m already so late. Those construction detours and that slow bus didn’t help at all.”
(She picks up her pace, geode necklace bouncing lightly against her chest.)
Sunset Shimmer: (talking to herself, eyes focused ahead) “I can’t let this turn into another disaster like my old Fall Formal. Selene’s not there yet, but if that amulet keeps pushing her… she could become just like I was. I won’t sit back and watch it happen. Not again.”
(She rounds a corner and reaches a busy intersection. The crosswalk light is red, and cars are streaming past steadily. Sunset
stops at the curb, tapping her foot impatiently as she waits for the signal to change.)
Sunset Shimmer: (groaning, throwing her hands up slightly) “You’ve gotta be kidding me! Of all the times for traffic to be this heavy…”
(She stands there, glancing anxiously toward the distant lights of Canterlot High, refusing to give up as she waits for a safe moment to cross.)
Scene 4
Scene Setup: The Fall Formal is reaching its peak inside the brightly lit Canterlot High gymnasium. Colorful lights sweep across the dance floor as students chat excitedly. Principal Celestia stands on the decorated stage, holding a microphone in her hand and an envelope ready. Selene Sapphire lingers just behind the crowd near the back wall, her eyes glowing with a darker, sinister edge as the purple amulet pulses with intense dark magic, reaching its peak.
Principal Celestia: (raising her hand for quiet, smiling warmly) “Alright, everyone, may I have your attention please? It’s time for the big moment we’ve all been waiting for—the crowning of this year’s Fall Formal Princess!”
(The crowd cheers and claps. Selene’s expression hardens further, the amulet flashing faintly.)
Principal Celestia: (opening the envelope with a flourish) “And the winner and this year’s Fall Formal Princess is… Rosie Greenfield!”
(The gymnasium erupts in applause and whistles. Rosie Greenfield, a cheerful girl with curly brown hair, gasps in surprise and
makes her way up the steps to the stage, waving shyly to everyone.)
Rosie Greenfield: (blushing, stepping up beside Principal Celestia) “Oh my gosh… thank you so much, everyone!”
Principal Celestia: (lifting the sparkling tiara crown) “Congratulations, Rosie. You’ve earned this.”
(Just as Principal Celestia raises the crown toward Rosie’s head, a bright purple flash erupts from the back of the gym. Gasps ripple through the crowd as the light shoots upward, rising halfway to the roof before dimming dramatically. When the glow fades, Dark Selene Sapphire hovers in mid-air—her skin a deeper shade, eyes glowing with dark energy, hair flowing wildly, and the purple diamond amulet blazing on her chest. Her once-casual outfit now looks sharper and more menacing.)
Dark Selene: (voice echoing with unnatural power, smirking down at the stage) “Congratulations on your outstanding achievement, Rosie. Truly well deserved.”
(The crowd murmurs in confusion and fear. Dark Selene floats forward slightly, addressing the entire gymnasium.)
Dark Selene: (tone sharp, laced with bitterness) “But you all forgot something important. During my campaign in the running, you ignored everything I did—the posters I put up, the ideas I shared, the way I tried to make myself heard. Just like when I was little… no one ever saw me. No one gave me the attention or respect I deserved. I was always pushed aside, overlooked by family, teachers, and everyone. But not anymore.”
(She pauses, eyes narrowing as dark energy crackles around her.)
Dark Selene: “If I can’t have your princess crown… well, that’s all right! I’ll still give you all a Fall Formal you’ll never forget!”
(Chaos erupts instantly. Dark energy bursts from the amulet, sending tables flying, lights sparking wildly, and streamers tearing from the ceiling. Students scream and duck for cover as the gymnasium shakes.)
Rainbow Dash: (powering up instantly, rainbow lightning crackling around her) “Whoa! Not on my watch! Everybody stay back—I’ll handle this!”
Applejack: (geode glowing, super strength kicking in as she grabs a falling speaker to shield students) “Hold on, y’all! Get behind me! We gotta keep everyone safe!”
Pinkie Pie: (bouncing into action, rolling out her party cannon) “Time for some party protection! Confetti blast incoming—take that!”
(She fires a burst of colorful confetti and streamers that temporarily tangle some of the dark energy tendrils.)
Rarity: (diamond shield forming around a group of scared freshmen) “Darlings, stay close! My fabulous barriers will keep you safe from this dreadful mess!”
Fluttershy: (kindness magic gently calming panicked students while shielding them with soft energy) “It’s okay, everyone… please don’t be scared. We’re here to help.”
Sci-Twi: (magic aura flaring as she scans the dark energy with her geode) “The corruption is at maximum! We need to destroy that amulet it—quick, girls, combine our powers!”
(The Humane 6 work together in a flurry of coordinated action—Rainbow Dash zooming around to deflect blasts, Applejack lifting fallen debris, Pinkie creating distractions with exploding party favors, Rarity reinforcing shields, Fluttershy soothing the crowd, and Sci-Twi analyzing and countering the dark magic waves. The chaos stretches on with crashing sounds, flying objects, and frightened shouts filling the gym.)
Dark Selene: (hovering above it all, watching the girls with a twisted smile) “Isn’t that sweet? I’ll admit, I’ve always admired you six girls and your magic powers. So united. So… heroic. Let’s see if you can beat this!”
(She raises her hands, unleashing a powerful gust of dark purple energy that slams into the Humane 6, knocking them back and rendering their powers temporarily useless. The force rips a large, jagged hole in the gymnasium roof, sending debris raining down.)
Rainbow Dash: (struggling to stand, winded) “Ugh… that one packed a punch!”
Applejack: (shaking off dust) “We ain’t done yet, but she’s gettin’ stronger!”
(Outside the school, Sunset Shimmer finally reaches the front steps of Canterlot High, still in her orange & black spaghetti-strap dress. She skids to a stop as she sees the dark magic exploding from the broken roof and hears the screams from inside.)
Sunset Shimmer: (eyes wide with alarm, voice urgent) “Selene, no! This is exactly what I was afraid of… I’ve got to get through to her before it’s too late!”
(She clenches her fists and breaks into a determined run toward the front entrance, geode glowing faintly as she pushes forward.)
Scene 5A
Scene Setup: The chaos in the Canterlot High gymnasium continues as debris falls from the jagged hole in the roof and dark energy crackles through the air. Students huddle behind overturned tables while the Humane 6 struggle to recover from Dark Selene’s last attack. Suddenly, the gymnasium doors burst open with a loud bang. Sunset Shimmer rushes in, breathing heavily, her orange & black spaghetti-strap dress slightly disheveled from her run but still intact. Dark Selene hovers near the center of the gym, surrounded by swirling purple mist, her eyes glowing with corrupted power.
Dark Selene: (laughing with a dark echo in her voice, turning dramatically toward the doors) “Well, if it isn’t Sunset Shimmer herself! You’re just in time for the show!”
Sunset Shimmer: (stepping forward confidently, voice strong and sincere) “Selene, stop! You’re better than this! I know that hunger in your gut. I know exactly how that power feels—like it’s finally filling a hole that’s been empty for years. But you have to listen to me. That amulet, that purple stone… It’s a lie.”
(Sunset gestures around at the frightened students and the destruction.)
Sunset Shimmer: “I stood exactly where you are when I first crossed through that portal. I looked out at these same faces and saw only pawns to be moved. I thought that if I couldn’t be loved, I would be feared, because fear looks a lot like respect from a distance. But look at what it does to you. I became a monster, Selene. I was a bully who tore down anyone who stood in my way just to feel important. I thought I was ruling a kingdom, but I was just making myself an outcast. And for what? A crown that meant nothing? It was the loneliest I have ever been. It took me losing everything to realize that the ‘power’ I was chasing—the power I tried to steal from another world—was nothing compared to what I found afterward.”
Dark Selene: (hovering lower, dark energy flickering around her fists, voice sharp and defiant) “Don’t tell me it’s the Magic of Friendship! I told you before—I don’t need friends! It’s not enough for me to be nice to everyone!”
Sunset Shimmer: (taking another step closer, her tone warm and earnest) “Friendship isn’t just ‘being nice.’ It’s the late-night texts when you’re spiraling. It’s the way Pinkie Pie knows exactly which cupcake will make you smile when you’ve had a bad day. It’s the way we sat around the campfire at Camp Everfree, not as magical beings, but as girls sharing stories under the stars. It’s the feeling of Rarity’s hand on your shoulder at the mall when you’re staring at a reflection you don’t recognize yet. It’s the beach trips where we don’t do anything but laugh until our lungs hurt. That is the real magic, Selene. It doesn’t turn you into a monster; it turns you into the person you were always meant to be. There is another way… but you have to step down and let me show you. I’ve always had faith in you.”
(Dark Selene pauses in mid-air. Her glowing eyes flicker as she looks down at Sunset. For a long moment, she hovers silently, the dark energy around her crackling uncertainly. She shakes her head sharply, as if trying to clear it, then glances around at the wrecked gymnasium, the scared students, and her own transformed appearance.)
Dark Selene: (voice quieter, cracking slightly) “What… what have I done?”
(The corrupted glow in her eyes fades. Realization hits her fully. She reaches up with trembling hands and silently rips the purple diamond amulet from around her neck. With a swift motion, she throws it down hard onto the floor near Applejack’s feet.)
Applejack: (stepping forward quickly, geode glowing brightly) “Got it!”
(Applejack’s magic super strength surges through her. She raises her hand and brings it down with tremendous force, smashing the amulet into tiny glittering pieces that scatter across the floor.)
(The moment the amulet shatters, the dark purple energy swirling through the gym vanishes instantly. The hole in the roof stops sparking, and a calm quiet begins to settle. Dark Selene’s corrupted form fades away in a soft flash, returning her to normal—her regular Fall Formal outfit and appearance restored. She drops gently to the floor, looking around at the mess she caused with wide, horrified eyes.)
Selene Sapphire: (voice small and full of remorse, staring at the broken pieces of the amulet) “I… I can’t believe it. I really became a monster…”
(She stands there, the drops to her knees, shoulders slumped, clearly overwhelmed with regret as the Humane 6 and the other students slowly start to emerge from their hiding spots.)
Scene 5B
Scene Setup: The chaos in the Canterlot High gymnasium has finally settled. The dark magic has completely vanished, leaving behind scattered debris and a large hole in the roof, but thankfully, no one is seriously hurt. Students slowly get back on their feet, helping each other up and brushing off dust. They watch quietly as Sunset Shimmer walks across the floor toward Selene Sapphire, who is sitting on the ground, tears streaming down her face.
Sunset Shimmer: (approaching slowly and gently) “Selene… are you okay?”
Selene Sapphire: (sobbing quietly, staring down at her own hands in disbelief) “I… I just wanted people to actually see me. I never meant to hurt anyone. I don’t know what came over me. I’m so sorry. I’ve ruined everything, and now my life is gonna be worse than before! I don’t know what to do!”
Sunset Shimmer: (kneeling down beside her, voice soft and understanding) “I know. Believe me, I know better than anyone in this room. You feel like there’s no way back from this, don’t you? Like you’ll always be the girl who destroyed the Formal, and people won’t just forget overnight. I was there a whole year ago. But trust me when I say that it will get better for you soon.”
Selene Sapphire: (looking up at Sunset with red, tear-filled eyes) “But how? How do you live with your regrets? How do you look them in their eyes every day, knowing what you did? I’m scared, Sunset. I don’t think I can go on like this.”
Sunset Shimmer: (smiling sadly, placing a comforting hand on Selene’s shoulder) “After my tyranny, these students wouldn’t let me live it down for a while until they were able to put it behind them. It wasn’t easy, and it didn’t happen right away. But it did happen.”
Selene Sapphire: (voice trembling) “That was because you saved the school from dark magic before! I’ll never match up to your redemption. I don’t even know where to start…”
Sunset Shimmer: (voice warm and encouraging) “You don’t have to do it alone. That’s the secret. It took me a long time to realize that I didn’t have to carry my mistakes by myself. I’ve been the bully, the monster, and the outcast. My friends helped me through the pain and taught me what true friendship is like. If you’re willing to do the work, then I’ll be more than willing to walk that path with you.”
Selene Sapphire: (still unsure, wiping at her tears) “You’d really… after everything that happened tonight? I couldn’t make real friends before, and now I don’t even deserve any. Are you sure?”
Sunset Shimmer: (extending her hand with a gentle smile) “Someone once gave me a second chance I didn’t think I deserved. It’s only fair I do the same for you. So, Selene, will you be friends with me?”
Selene Sapphire: (sobbing harder, but now with tears of joy as she clutches Sunset’s hand tightly and pulls her into a warm, tight hug) “Yes… Yes… please. I’d like that more than anything!”
(The two girls hold the embrace for a moment as the entire gymnasium watches. Then, slowly, students begin to clap. The applause grows into a full, heartfelt round of cheers—not for defeating a villain, but for a moment of genuine recovery and forgiveness.)
Rainbow Dash: (stepping forward with the rest of the Humane 6, grinning) “That was awesome, Sunset!”
Applejack: (nodding approvingly) “You did good, Sugarcube. Real good.”
Pinkie Pie: (bouncing happily) “Group hug time? Or maybe a big party to fix the gym? We can do both!”
Rarity: (wiping a small tear from her eye) “Oh, darling, that was simply beautiful.”
Fluttershy: (smiling softly) “I’m so glad she’s okay now.”
Sci-Twi: (adjusting her glasses, looking relieved) “The dark magic is completely gone. This is a wonderful outcome.”
(The Humane 6 join Sunset and Selene, forming a supportive circle as the student body continues clapping. Sunset Shimmer stands tall beside Selene, who is finally free from the shadow of her own past by helping someone else find the light. The Fall Formal may have been interrupted, but a new friendship has begun.)
