I do not agree with veganism as a moral standard. If it is your personal moral stance, that is fine. If you think humans eating meat is inherently immoral, I don’t want to deal with you, you’re hopeless. Vegan ideology behaves more like a sect of evangelical Christianity than a dietary choice.

Veganism is better for the environment, but claiming that it's a morally superior choice ignores cultural and economic factors that make people eat animal products.

It is not inherently better for the environment. That is the thing. When you begin trying to explain that local, sustainably sourced animal protein is better for the environment than imported plant proteins that are farmed 3,500 miles away using slave labor, they start tuning you out. Down is better for the environment than polyester stuffing, leather is better for the environment than pleather. We should work on making animal agricultural practices more sustainable instead of trying to shame everyone into eating plant products that are also farmed unethically and unsustainably.

I keep thinking about Kim ending her relationship with Jimmy with the line, "I love you too, but so what?" And that's a running theme in Gilligan's shows - there's love here, but so what? Love isn't enough

Something that always annoys me a little is when people insist that Walt never loved his family, or stopped loving his family, or never really cared about Jesse - like, the show doesn't make any sense if that were true. Walt loves his wife, he loves his kids, he loves Jesse - but so what? It doesn't stop him from destroying them.

Kim left Jimmy because their love enabled their worst impulses and led to other people getting hurt, as well as losing themselves to corruption. They are truly, madly, deeply in love - but so what? Being in love doesn't mean you are good for each other

And I think the Hive truly loves Carol, just like it truly loves Manousos, and Koumba, and Kusimayu, and the baby goat that it left to be killed by predators, and that blade of grass over there, and each and every ant, and every person it's dismembered, processed, and consumed.

But seriously - SO WHAT? Does its love, no matter how sincere, make its race towards human extinction morally good? It loves all organic matter equally and will not do active harm to anything living - but it commits massive amount of passive harm through neglect and inaction

The Hive loves humanity, but like Walt, its true devotion lies elsewhere. Walt was devoted to power; the Hive is devoted to replication of itself, above everything else. Its love does not absolve it.

Avoidance is the worst reaction to stress. Oh this thing is giving me anxiety? And it's something I could prepare for by looking at it more or learning things about the topic? No, I will take psychological damage if I look at it directly. I will still be thinking about it and be stressed though.

So Carol has the same problem Skyler did as far as viewer reception goes, i.e. she is a woman who is angry for justifiable reasons who lots of people still dislike because either 1) they don't think she has any justifiable reason to be angry; or 2) they acknowledge she has a right to be angry, but still dislike her for being so annoying about it

So why do people find Carol and Skyler so "annoying?" Well, a big part of it is that they're women who are angry. People really, really, REALLY hate it when women show anger. An angry woman is deeply repulsive - she's shrill, she's annoying, she's hysterical, she's exaggerating for attention. Like, yeah maybe she's got a point, but can't she be nicer about making it?

And Carol and Skyler are especially annoying because they're angry about something that it's deeply taboo for women to be angry about - they are angry about being provided for. They didn't ask to be provided for in the way the Hive and Walt provide for them, since their brand of providing comes with a body count - but they still ought to show some gratitude. Look at all of the effort that's been put into keeping them in comfort! How DARE they be angry about any of it, when the only thing the Hive and Walt want are for them to be happy and comfortable?

Except, of course, that isn't the only thing that the Hive and Walt want. Providing for Carol and Skyler is a justification for their pursuit of power. But that's neither here nor there. Carol and Skyler should still shut up and take it.

Both Carol and Skyler try to reject this "generosity," but ultimately give in after enormous pressure and psychological manipulation. But now they've got a different problem, because accepting this "generosity" means that they REALLY ought to be showing gratitude and obedience. But they don't. They're still angry, they're still acting out, and that's infuriating. Don't the Hive and Walt deserve a little credit for loving them so very much? And don't they know that the Hive and Walt are doing terrible things to provide for them? That makes them complicit! Maybe even more to blame than the Hive and Walt, if you think about it, since the Hive and Walt are doing all of this for them. Of course people find these ungrateful bitches annoying

Can I be controversial for a moment. I think the primary stance against AI being "what are you, fucking ret- I MEAN stupid? you can't even write an email? LMFAO do you need a robot to wipe your ass for you?" is fucking gross and really speaks to how so many of you care more about having an excuse to be Right and make fun of someone instead of the actual environmental, ethical, and workers' rights concerns around the generative ai boom

Before you sodomize and water torture me i need to make it clear that this isn't me saying relying on what's essentially just predictive text is a good thing, that scraping data from the whole internet to train ai is okay, that we should all stop thinking or putting any effort into research, etc etc I fucking hate the push of generative ai it's patronizing and particularly sinister in our current political climate. But Like. You realize you're just punching down, right? "LMAOOOO are you totally braindead or what? You can't even decide what to have for dinner? You can't write an essay? You can't read a long article? Fucking buck up and put the effort in its not hard. Is your brain just mush or what omfg you people can't do ANYTHING" Can you step back and look at yourself for a moment. There are so many things we can talk about irt genAI being a net bad. The sheer amount of computing power and thereby resources it takes, the massive jump in emissions from tech giants that it's responsible for, the fact that it doesn't actually know anything and confidently regurgitates dangerously false information, the fact that it nonconsensually scrapes public works to train itself, I could go on for multiple paragraphs.
