Petyr x Sansa: Modern AU
In a better world, one where good writing could overcome fanservice and voluntary plot holes, Petyr Baelish might have had the narrative he deserved. But we don’t live in that world.
Are you sure you want to do this?
It’s not what I want. It’s what honor demands.
“I’m often mistaken for a villain—a moody type—which I’m not really.” (x)

Is it all lies, forever and ever, everyone and everything? Almost everyone. Save you and I, of course.
I know I’ll never feel the same I know I may never accept the change, but I want… …Happiness

The snow drifted down and down, all in ghostly silence, and lay thick and unbroken on the ground. It was a place of whites and blacks and greys. White towers and white snow and white statues, black shadows and black trees, the dark grey sky above. A pure world, Sansa thought. I do not belong here. Yet she stepped out all the same.
Page Six flatly claimed their marriage was one of economics — Petyr Baelish couldn’t afford his political aspirations without the steady infusion of money older than he’d ever known. No one seemed settled on an explanation of the young bride’s acquiescence, though. The cruel said she was tricked, the unimaginative said he was just the first to ask, and the more vivacious gossips pondered aloud his skills in the bedroom. Across every blog and paper and society quarterly, not one author suggested perhaps Sansa Stark got something of value in exchange for her poor, dead daddy’s money.
Orphaned and rich, apparently the only member left of a scattered clan, to anyone of importance in the capitol she amounted to a charity case, nothing more. Politicians liked having another pretty face at their fundraising galas, extra zeros materializing onto checks thanks to a generosity which lasted mere hours. While Sansa could find a warm welcome on the board of any charity or museum real power eluded her. The upstart Baelish, though — he saw her drive, her wit, her potential. All she needed was a guide, someone to teach her the subtle cruelty which drove every success on the Hill. Then, with plenty of money and just a little time, he knew Sansa was his key to founding the next great American dynasty.

Tensions linger in the wake of a second world war and shadows are given a name by faceless men sitting in offices high above London — communists. The paranoia doesn’t seem to have touched those living at the Lannister compound, however. When Petyr Baelish takes over Lord Robert’s accounts no one questions how he emerged from the war with nothing but a warm recommendation from his commander. One could serve Englad quite faithfully from within its borders, Cersei proclaims, but hiding in the countryside sounded less a soldier’s duty and more a child’s prerogative to Sansa Stark. And what need did an accountant have for late-night phone calls or urgent trips to the city on weekends, when every bank sat dormant? Intrigued, Sansa keeps a curious eye on the ex-soldier, oblivious that even in the midst of his maneuverings Baelish finds ample time to keep an eye on her as well. ♦ petyr x sansa 1950′s au, suggested by joannalannister
