Gender Troubles: The Butches
also thinking about this like gay sephardic poet from like the 13th century who wrote that moses would not have written down the laws against being gay if he had seen how beautiful his lovers face was and im like god the layers the romance the religious emotions..
the poet is rabbi yehuda al-harizi/judah ben solomon harizi! it’s from his book of taḥkemoni iirc, and the quote is “if Moses had seen the way my friend’s face blushes when he’s drunk, and his beautiful curls and wonderful hands, he would not have written in his Torah: do not lie with a man”
We have always been here.

GAYMAZING :D
I know this is a long post - but omg it gave me feels. Can you imagine how intense their love had to be to survive how homophobic it was back then. 😭😭😭
I so respect this and couldn’t imagine how it would of been back then to hide there sexuality but it was well said we have always been here just in the shadow but not anymore!! It’s a new day and thanks to all these whom made this day possible to be who you want and whom you want to be with!!

“JUST MARRIED,” Fernando, seated, and his husband, both members of Los Angeles’ Blue Max Motorcycle Club, get pulled over as they leave their wedding ceremony, December 1969. Photo c/o @onearchives. In the mid-twentieth century, the Blue Max Motorcycle Club, along with many other gay motorcycle clubs, provided an alternative to gay bars, which were constantly at risk of police raids and harassment. #lgbthistory #lgbtherstory #lgbttheirstory #lgbtpride #queerhistorymatters #haveprideinhistory (at Los Angeles, California)
fun fact: motorcycle clubs in the U.S. were founded and run largely by gay men who missed the homosocial camaraderie of being in the U.S. military during WWII. the lifestyle and aesthetics of those motorcycle clubs gave rise to many of the stereotypical/classic gay “looks” (leather, chaps, etc) and indeed to the gay leather scene itself (both the gay male leather/biker scene and the lesbian/dykes on bikes leather/biker scene)
@funkpunkandrollmuhfucka2 i think this would be of interest to u

To any and all LGBT+ people of color feeling split between being a person of color and a part of the LGBT+ community:
You are not being oversensitive or divisive for calling out racism in LGBT+ spaces, or for calling out anti-LGBT+ bigotry in PoC spaces or race specific spaces.
You are not weak or a coward for choosing not to call out racism in LGBT+ spaces, or for not calling out anti-LGBT+ bigotry in PoC spaces or race specific spaces.
You shouldn’t have to separate your experience as a person of color and a someone who is part of the LGBT+ community to be more palatable or understandable to the majority group.
You can be both a person of color and part of the LBGT+ community and there is nothing wrong with that and nothing wrong with you.
You are perfectly valid in your identity.
