Happy October!
I need to reblog this every october 🍁 💕 🎃
Loki The Fox, 2015. There are some memories that bring tears to my eyes. I remember the connection I made with Loki, a beautiful wild arctic fox on the southern coast of Iceland. For some reason, he trusted me as if I was one of his one. I spent nearly two hours in these mossy hills playing with Loki as he batted his front paws up into the sky, hiding around the rocks waiting for me to find him, and putting his cold nose onto my cheek. Even when writing about this experience and sharing this story, it seems way too surreal to actually have happened. Loki is a constant reminder and inspiration to live each beautiful day alive and with love.

When people talk about convergent evolution producing animals with similar characteristics, it’s really common to picture a bird wing and a bat wing. Single-feature stuff.
What’s so cool about this photoset is it shows how much convergent evolution can create entire species that are similarly constructed because they share similar niches.
I can’t completely ID the top sets of animals in this - can anyone better at that subset of mammalia weigh in?
the IDs are in the caption! you have to click them to see!
This is fascinating!
Nice catch! So we have:

One of the only good shots I have ever managed to get of Ivar, Jude, and Cabal all in one frame! Behold: The Dogbeast Pack! Ivar, of course, is an upper-mid content wolfdog; Jude is a low-content; and Cabal is my working-line German shepherd. #thegreatoutdoors #pnwwonderland #oregon #adventure #wolfdog #wolfdogs #wolfhybrid #wolves #wolf #germanshepherd #GSD #workinglinegsd #eastgermanshepherd #bluebayshepherd #dogs #dogsonamission @pnwonderdogs @adventuredognation @bestwoof @hikingdogsofinsta @dogs.lovers @canine.nation

495M of the Mollie’s pack stands over his bison prey. When he ws collared he weighed 143 pounds, making him one of the largest wolves to be radio collared in YNP.
Here is a picture of 495M and volunteer Erin Albers to show just how big he was!
Ivar’s half-brother, Grey Wind, met Ivar for the first time at a local park and had a blast. According to Grey’s owner, Ivar is a little carbon copy of his big boy, right down to his pale pretty eyes. Ivar will grow to look a lot like Grey as he matures, but I’m savoring his cute puppy stage while it lasts.

A comparison between Timber (grey wolf) and Willow (coyote). People often confuse coyotes and wolves, but they are totally separate species. One of the most noticeable morphological differences between a wolf and a coyote are their ears–a coyote’s ears are larger in proportion to their body, as you can see on Willow. What other differences can you see?
