Young Vi the turtle has come a long way. She doesn't flee at the sight of me, which is nice. Increasingly she just carries on with her business while I'm around. She might tuck her head in if I'm right over her, but she stays where she is. I used to barely see her! When I opened the back door I would be lucky to see a shape among the splash.

And she's still awake? Even eating a little. It's COLD! Lochlan's been down for a month. If there's a sunny afternoon I might spot him floating beneath the surface- tucked in his shell. This is all on schedule for him.

Why isn't Vi sleeping? Wouldn't she theoretically lose heat faster than the larger turtle? And it rained for days, no basking sun? I guess since I didn't used to see her as much I didn't get much sense of her winter routine? Vi's Vinter Vonderland?!

Last week there was a large dragonfly flitting over Vi's pond. She was following it around, hopeful head and neck above the surface. Hunting in this cold weather little girl what?

It's so weird when it's rainy and green around here. There's the river but it's otherwise quite country, quite hot. It's raining again? And the river does something to make it colder. Mists.

Always a risk with vintage clothing, but a package arrived and the SMELL. Is it from cleaning, is it to keep the bugs away, it's just so strong. A chemical smell that curls in the guts. The thing's on a hanger outside, yikes.

This does not look like wool to me either.

Oh nice, washing it got rid of that smell to reveal the moth ball smell. Which my washing machine now reeks of. Real cool to have winter clothes pending in cold weather. "Air it in the sun", yes, but when will we next have a sunny day?

This is a Secondhand Gods lesson, surely. My usual coat that went everywhere for five winters is benched. Last time I wore it, last year, was at a very smoky barbecue where I boisterously played with a dog. It has been washed, it has been defurred, it has been sprayed, it has hung and aired all summer and it still stinks (besides, it's so Lawschool Furmity ya know?). So I decided to get a new coat. And I got this menace.

Stink of smoky dog or stink of naphthalene, fuck yeah I'm cold.

This goose fucking rocks and had a crazy life!

I really just have to summarize Thomas's entire life:

He was in a committed relationship with a male swan named Henry for 18-24 years before a female swan named Henrietta showed up and mated with Henry.

Thomas was initially jealous of the pair and attacked them, breaking 2 of the 5 eggs Henrietta had laid. However, once the remaining eggs hatched, Thomas warmed up to them and helped raise them.

Henry couldn't fly because of an injured wing, so Thomas taught the cygnets how to fly.

When they needed to reduce the goose population in the pond where Thomas and the swans lived, they dyed Thomas's feathers red so he wouldn't be separated from Henry.

Henry, Henrietta, and Thomas remained in their happy throuple for years and raised 68 cygnets before Henry died in 2009. After Henry's death, Henrietta found another swan and flew away, leaving Thomas alone.

Thomas finally met and mated with a female goose in 2011 and had his own babies. However, another goose named George stole them and raised them himself.

As Thomas grew elderly and blind, he was relocated to a wildlife center where he raised orphaned cygnets.

His caretaker at the center described him as "pretty high maintenance."

Thomas died in 2018 at the age of around 40. He had a funeral that included a small coffin and a procession that was led by a bagpiper. He was buried under the stone where Henry was buried, the two finally reunited in death.

Before and after his death, Thomas has been celebrated as an icon of the LGBTQ+ community for obvious reasons.

My condolences for those using the app but... why? I am on a not- new Android using tumblr.com in the browser and it goes absolutely fine? Why use something that doesn't have all the things? Is your phone's browser the worst? What am I missing?

ok so this is another long shot but a few years ago there was a twitter post (in japanese i think?) that had measurememts for how to make this book stand thing out of cardboard that you could use to double up books and use up more space on shelves

back then i made a bunch of these but by now i lost the pic and dont know how to find the original post anymore

if it comes down to it i can just take one apart and get the measurements from there but i would be very grateful if anyone happens to have the original post or something similar??

don't mind how long it's been since i made this post, anyway i realized that i don't even need to take one apart to get the measurements when i can literally just unfold it and refold it /FACEPALM

so anyway here is the diagram for anyone else who is interested!!

this requires pretty big carboard pieces, if you have a really big box or something you can make it from one piece, but if you don't, you can also just make each of the pieces individually and then tape them together

and then in the end you put it together like this!!

and then when you make a bunch you can put them all next to each other and stack your books like crazy
