The next person that’ll use a university degree as an argument, I’ll blow up in their face.

Now, let me elaborate. I’m not talking about someone using their own degree in the matter as a proof of expertise. That is completely fine.

I’m talking about “oh, but it’s so weird that he was abusive towards his family, I mean, he has a university degree” or “can you imagine, some of the people in that cult had university diplomas? I can’t believe it” or “oh she’s saying she was a victim of a scam, but she has two masters, doesn’t seem likely to me” or “how can a woman with a degree be with someone who beats her?” or “there’s a criminal case against them but they’re people with degrees, they wouldn’t commit such crimes”

Maybe it’s specific only to the country I live in, but it’s fucking infuriating. The only thing a degree gives you is a somewhat deeper knowledge in the specific subject. That’s it. There are university programs that won’t even manage to teach their students critical thinking skills. It’s not a proof of wisdom, or moral superiority, or a shield against becoming a victim or falling for some scheme.

And before anyone says anything, I do have a degree. I’m currently in a process of getting a second one. I see people who are getting their degrees everyday in university.

Highly educated people can be scammers, criminals, abusers, victims, cultists, bad with money, addicted or whatever else. They’re just educated on top of that.
