How do you survive?
Studying. Reading of bacteria, viruses, and fungi, that all cause awful, debilitating ailments of the vulnerable and unexpecting. A true testament to how size doesn’t matter; but rather that where and how you can can affect, does. Opportunistic organisms; showing us that if you just simply live and do what what you need to; eventually you will get your chance to really thrive.
To be imagining microbiological creatures in such an inspiring light may be calling attention to my loss of contact with reality; or maybe it is demonstrating a true understanding and respect for the work I am doing… Either way, I better get back to it… Can’t leave those microbes unattended for too long…
If the last year has taught me anything… it is how to be resilient, and to remember that little problems are only a grain of sand compared to how indescribably beautiful the 🌍 is. We go through life having expectations of how things are suppose to go and where we are going to end up. But, I have grown to learn that when things do not go as planned, there’s always a greater plan at work. So all we can do is work hard, and stay positive. Because, everything does, honest to goodness, happen for a reason.
Grind everyday. Sweat everyday. Fitness & sports are my outlet. Putting in work physically helps to clear my mind, and fatigues my restless body so that I can sit down and focus 📚🤓 The stress of medical school is greater some days than others. One day you'll feel like you're drowning, feel like you can't take it anymore, and you'll want to quit. But then there are those days, the days when you get to work with a patient or observe a surgery, or emergency in the hospital, or simply get to speak with a vetted physician... Or those days that a light bulb goes off and you understand the material you've been slaving over... Those are the days that rekindle that passion for medicine that is always within you, and make it all worth the struggle.
After an emotionally difficult couple of days after my first exam of MS2... I have regrouped, refocused, and am ready to take on the rest of this semester head on. I may have overestimated the depth of my understanding of the material, and did not give myself enough time to do as many practice questions as I would have liked. Nonetheless, what is done is done, and all I have to do is put my nose to the grind and JUST GET IT DONE. 💪🏼📚💊💉 Starting off this block with some YouTube vids to give me a scaffold to build my knowledge on.
A second year’s wise words
“Med school is like eating five pancakes a day. You have to eat those pancakes. If you don’t eat all five today, say you eat three, then tomorrow you have five more, plus the two soggy ones leftover from yesterday. It’s better to eat your five every day than to be stuck with soggy leftovers on top of the five new ones.”
This is perfectly said. #EatYourPancakes
After having a few too many obstacles and changes over the last few months, I have struggled to focus in my schooling. This lack of focus has pushed me into a position where I have to choose to turn my attitude around and remember why I am on this path. This path is hard, and I know there will still be times I will feel vulnerable and unaccomplished. That is why I realized that in order to achieve my dreams I have to: become my own cheerleader, push myself out of my comfort zone, break my habit of procrastination, and set realistic small goals for myself. 📝💊💉

Our orthopaedic surgery rotation was pretty great! I love being on the island, and having firsthand experiences with patients! It is days like today that remind me why I love medicine!
Views like this remind me of the reason I am still here... How this world is greater than any little worry I may have. How much greater my passion to help others than the hardships of being away from everything I have known... And How I am so privileged to have the opportunity to work in a place that is so vastly beautiful.
Water is the most powerful force of nature. It sustains ALL life forms. Encompasses the great majority of the planet. Water is beautiful, in all of its many forms.
