An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
It's been a minute, but I caught a Holmes and Watson bug a few months ago, and this fic held on like a dog with a bone. Summary: Watson seeks to try to forget after the death of Holmes and Mary. He drowns in his vices, and leaves London to try to escape it's ghosts, but never imagines he'd find it waiting for him in the underside of Paris instead.

It’s true and you should say it.

Fire Nation Summer
The fire siblings when they’re older and reconciled. Maybe they’re on holiday in one of the warmer islands. Or maybe they’re visiting the Sun Warriors. Or, or, Sun Warrior AU. In any case, the turtle duck is Azula’s lmao
imagine FN mastery tattoos….

tbh there's a good chance that many who were raised in american schools don't know this, but one of the sanctions on lgbt+ bodies which existed pre-stonewall (and after tbh) was what was called the "three article rule". it was legally required that people would have to be wearing 3 or more items of "correct" clothing for their gender.
a person found in clothing that did not "fit" their assigned gender could and would be arrested. this law wasn't repealed in new york until recently. the actual prosecution of this law has disproportionately affected trans women and women of color.
texas is beginning to create "anti-drag" legislations. pre-existing conditions have shown us the degree to which "clothing must fit your assigned gender" can and will be used to create unsafe conditions for lgbt+ and minority populations. labelling drag "inappropriate" for children isn't just a first step towards systematic abuse - it is the assurance that the systematic abuse will occur. there is no population that will be made safe by this law; it exists only to create moral panic and further division. i've spoken about this a lot, but "think of the children" & "protect innocence" is a vile, white-nationalist stakehold which positions queer expression as being inherently "perverted", "sexual", or "deviant".
legislation that corroborates the sentiment that "drag is not appropriate for children" is incredibly harmful not just in the immediate - but also because it sets the legal precedent that any act of gnc expression is inherently inappropriate and wrong.
read up on your history, if you can. and remember: we said we would never let this happen to us again.
Dear readers,
The formatting of Dangerous Liaisons Daily has started. It is time that I write a post presenting the project.
*taps mic*
Do you like sexual affairs? Do you like treason? Do you love revenge? And deceit? Yes, what about deceit? By the way, are you an average sin enjoyer? More than that, maybe? An expert sin enjoyer who will kiss all the prudes on your way to hell? Finally, do you swoon at the thought of an evil woman and/or a bastard man?
Well then, you should definitely subscribe to Dangerous Liaisons Daily, and follow the manipulative adventures of the Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont through their correspondence, in real time. You can find all the information you need on the about page of the project, where you can also subscribe if you want to.
It will start on August 3rd, 2022. Though i invite you to check your inbox a few days before. It will end on January 13th, 2023.
I wanted to set up a french version of it, but it would be too much work on such a short notice for it to be ready in august. That being said, it will happen next year. The english version of the project will be reconducted next year if you enjoy it, or if you can’t make it this year for any reason (for example, if you are reading any other ongoing newsletter).
If you have any question, you can shoot me an ask or dm me.
PS : A huge thank you to the 99 people who already subscribed at the moment i type this post! This is incredible, I am humbled and honored to receive such support!
See you soon to share gossip like the heretics we are ;)

Spoke to a gen z person the other night and apparently the young folks don't know about the very legal sites from which you can access public domain media (including Dracula, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and other Victorian gothic horror stories)?
Like this young person didn't even know about goddamn Gutenberg which is a SHAME. I linked to it and they went "aw yiss time to do a theft" and I was like "I mean yo ho ho and all that, sure, but. you know gutenberg is entirely legal, right?"
Anyway I'm gonna put this in a few Choice Tags (sorry dracula fans I DID mention it though so it's fair game) and then put some Cool Links in a reblog so this post will still show UP in said tags lmao.
Okay lessee, we got the aforementioned www.gutenberg.org, where you can access public domain print works in lots of different formats--you can even read books in your browser if you don't wanna take up space on your device! Worth noting that a lot (maybe all?) of it is machine-rendered text from scans, which is then corrected by volunteers, which means that there are sometimes errors, especially in less popular works. This can especially be an issue if you're reading something in another language (I had to hunt down a pdf scan of Le Tour du Monde en Quatre-Vingt Jours bc it was too difficult for me to parse mistakes in fucking 19th-century French lmao), but for the most part it's at most a slight inconvenience.
For other kinds of media, including music and movies, we got www.archive.org, which is by the same folks behind the Wayback Machine!
For more books including some that are still in the public domain (they even have Jeff Smith's "Bone" series!) we got www.openlibrary.org. The files from this will auto-delete from your device unfortunately, but that's exactly what happens with library ebooks so I can't complain (I do know of at least one way to get around that, but I wanna stick to strictly legal and above-board things for this post lmao). You do need to make an account, but it's free and super easy!
Speaking of libraries, go check out your local library's website, you'll probably find a page listing their electronic materials! For example, my library has hoopla, libby, kanopy, and creativebug, and that's just a few of the things they have! Libraries are maybe the best thing still existing in these fucked-up times, but you have to keep using them because your local government will take the first excuse they get to shut them down! (btw get active in local govt!)
Lastly, one that is maybe not so well known but that I've had endless nerdy fun with is cpdl.org/wiki/, the Choral Public Domain Library, where you can find tons of choral scores in different languages! I adore learning obscure folk songs so this is my absolute SHIT.
Anyway, that's all I can think of off the top of my head at the moment, but feel free to send me links or add them in the comments! However, please be mindful that, while I certainly don't turn my nose up at a little yo ho ho-ing myself, this is strictly for LEGAL sites. This is important for, say, teachers who want to share media with their classes, or singers who want to find scores they can legally perform publicly, just to give a couple of examples!
my writing ability currently feels on par with that of like…. a seven year old. i’m just writing one sentence. then another sentence. subject verb object, dependent clause period. do any of them relate? unclear. that is for god to decide. i certainly can’t.
the url makes this so much funnier
whoops. sorry lucius
This was riveting
I recently started working in hospitality, and I’ll tell you guys right now, the trope of “there was only one bed” is not as rare as you’d think in real life. A few times a week, at least, I have guys come in who are working together on projects in town or passing through who have to literally book the last room I have available for the night and lo and behold — there is only one bed, and guess what, they give each other a side-eyed look and begrudgingly take it. So write it up, it happens all the time!!!
Never let your There Was Only One Bed dreams die. I was secretly in love with my best friend for over a year when she graduated and moved to Oklahoma (like 1000 miles away) for grad school. Between that travel restrictions, we were so scared we’d never see eachother again.
At the end of summer, when Covid numbers were at a lower point, I took the risk to visit her in her new apartment and I quickly realized that, unlike when I’d spent the night at her house before, the couch wasn’t made up like a bed. She explained that since her new couch was so fancy and pink, I couldn’t possibly sleep on it, and so I needed to sleep in the bed with her. You know, out of necessity. I woke up with her snuggled around me in the middle of the night.
We’re dating now, and I genuinely think I’m going to marry her. Just the other day, though, I mentioned that if she hadn’t been weird about her fancy couch, I probably never would have like confessed my feelings. AND THEN she stood up, took the cushions off the fancy couch, UNFOLDED IT INTO A HIDE-A-BED, and said “I KNOW.”
THIS GIRL. ORCHESTRATED. BED SCARCITY. JUST SO SHE COULD MAKE THE “ONLY ONE BED” EXCUSE. Y’all when I said I just about lost my goddamn mind, I just about lost my goddamn mind. I love this sneaky bitch so much and the moral of this story is BE THE ONE BED YOU WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD.
Fanfic imitates life, and life imitates fanfic. It’s full circle really.
oh my god
there was only one bed
but it was STAGED
I love this so much
