"Maybe it's the mail guy's way of trying to get your attention." Luca joked and looked at her with a chuckled. "Nah, I'm a big boy, I can pay my bills." He chuckled again and looked at her. "I...I think I've only had to call an EMT or an ambulance at least twice, which isn't bad for a bar standards."
"Unfortunately for him, he's just not my type. He can keep trying though. I like a good boost to my self esteem." Not that it was needed. CJ had an air of confidence about her that was hard to break. She laughed with him, taking a drink of her coffee. "That's pretty good. Bars usually get several calls of some sort, especially on big drinking occasions like the super bowl and St. Patrick's Day."
"yeah, i guess i never really thought about all the mundane stuff you'd have to deal with. do a lot of people really microwave metal, though? because that seems like a very obvious bad idea," he replied. "strength was never really the issue, as i'm sure you could tell," he half joked, gesturing at himself. "oh, i've got the reckless thing down, trust me. i'm just lacking in the bravery department, so you got me there."
"You'd be surprised by the amount of things you consider to be common sense that other people just don't seem to have. Just think of every stupid thing you even thought about doing and all the warnings your parents might have told you. Every one of them has happened and I've had to save their asses," she explained. It was annoying to find out all those things her mom would yell at her about possibly happening were true. She was loathe to admit it to the woman later on, hating being wrong. "Bravery is just knowing you're being reckless and doing something dangerous but doing it anyways. Usually the regular recklessness we don't think about much."
"Oh shit, I'm sorry CJ." Luca apologized and chuckled as they took teh mail and looked at her. "Oh yeah, hearing you say that makes me glad I'm a bartender and not a firefighter."
"I don't blame you. Just our mail guy. Or if this is some sort of long con of yours to get me to pay your phone bill, you're shit out of luck," she teased, her little smirk letting him know she wasn't seriously thinking that. "I'm sure we both break up the same amount of fights on our jobs. I just usually have to take someone to the hospital afterwards."
"Ohhh I might have to check it out after school one day, or on a weekend." Everleigh said with a smile. "Okay that is just total bad ass of you to be honest."
"And rock climbing gyms usually don't have super high climbs, so it shouldn't be as intimidating. You usually get some sort of expert to hold your rope too, so it's like the safest you can get." Okay maybe there was still some risk involved, but it seemed super tame to her. "That is the number one reason I became a firefighter. So I could be and look really badass."
"Geez, I'm glad you took matters into your own hands then," Vik said incredulously, taking in a deep breath to ease his second-hand anxiety. "How often does this all happen?"
"Thank you. Someone else who sees my side of things. I thought it better to act than wait around." Of course she was always the one running headfirst into the fire rather than strategizing. Sometimes - or often - to her detriment. "Scaling buildings? Not too terribly often. Me getting into trouble for taking risks? Pretty much every shift."
"Something I have never done, but I've always wanted to try it." Everleigh admitted and nodded as she listened to CJ. "Smelling fear on someone is never good, especially when you're in a situation that you were in."
"I believe there is a rock climbing studio somewhere around here, so you can always give it a shot. It may not be the exact same as climbing down a skyscraper, but close enough," she suggested with a slight smirk lifting the side of her mouth. "You can't be afraid when you're a firefighter. We literally run into the dangerous situations and risk our lives for others. If you get scared, you get nervous or freeze and you start making mistakes."
"Sorry I'm late, sorry I'm late." Luca apologized and rubbed his face. "I overslept and work was fucking hell last night." Sitting down across from the person he had met up with, he gave them a smile. "So, what's new with you?" @sapphirestarters
"What's new with me is that I keep getting your mail," she stated, reaching into her backpack and pulling out the pile that had accumulated and handing it over. "Maybe the mailman hates you and that's why he never gives you your mail," she joked, raising her cup of coffee to her mouth. "Your work was hell? Dude I just got off a twenty-four hour shift that was back to back calls."
ezra hung on cj's every word as she spoke, practically about to fall off of his chair in anticipation as the story progressed. though he loved his job and wouldn't trade it for the world, he had to admit it wasn't quite as exciting as saving someone's life. "wow, that sounds intense but also incredibly badass. is it like that every day?" he wondered. "you know, i actually thought about being a firefighter once, a long time ago. chickened out, though. guess i'm not as brave as you."
"I wouldn't say every call is like that. I mean we see our fair share of saving kitties from trees or kitchen fires from microwaving metal. Even occasionally super quiet days. But yeah, there are plenty of exciting and dangerous jobs too. Part of the reason I love it," the blonde replied honestly, setting her beer down on the table and returning to her wings. A long day at work always left her starving. "Really? Well looks like you got the strength at least, but trust me it's not all about the muscles. One of the guys is like a string bean but he's basically the Flash. But don't worry. It's hard to be as brave and reckless as me. Or so I've been told."
"Oh my goodness." Everleigh said and shook her head. "I give you, and all the firefighters, props because I am not brave enough to do any of that." She said. "Your captian should just be happy that you helped the guy off the literal ledge, and the probie, who I assume is like the new guy, will learn the ropes, eventually and he'll get there and not slow you or anyone down."
"It's just like rock climbing. Only you're going down instead of climbing up, but that's just semantics," CJ declared, waving the idea off like it was nothing. Of course it wasn't as easy as that, but she liked to make it seem that way. Made her look more badass. "Right? A few more minutes of waiting around could have been too late. And honestly, I could smell the fear off the probie, which is the name for the new guy by the way. I doubt he would have even managed going over the edge of the roof."
"Okay so, the guy is freaking out and the other firefighters are trying to talk him down off the literal ledge. And I am on the roof in my harness, getting ready to repel down. They sent me up with the probie and he was just all tangled up in his gear and taking way too long. So I just take off without him and go down the building taking the guy by surprise as I basically tackle him back into his apartment." As CJ finishes telling the story, she takes another swig of her beer. "My captain was all pissed that I left the probie behind but if I had waited on him, it would have been a disaster." @sapphirestarters

this is the time of day micah loves most—early morning, when the world has barely stirred. just him, walking through the woods, the trees rustling in the wind, the crunch of leaves and twigs beneath his boots, and one of his many collected strays padding along at his side. the air is crisp, clean, the pale light slowly filtering through the branches, offering the day a soft, unhurried rise.
today, he has indi with him—named after indiana jones for his love of adventure, off leash and trotting ahead, ears perked and nose to the ground. it’s indi who notices it first, a sound, distant but distinct. something—or someone, up ahead.
at first, micah assumes it’s a deer. the dogs have a habit of chasing them off the trail, but when he squints through the trees, it’s not an animal. it’s a person.“indi, get back here!” micah calls, whistling low between his teeth. the mutt hesitates, then trots back toward him.
micah lifts his hand in a quiet, easy gesture of reassurance. “sorry about him — he’s friendly, i promise. just a bit boisterous.”
Going for a morning run or walk helped get CJ's day started in a way most people probably drank coffee to accomplish. It got her brain and her body going. On the rare times her schedule was off and she didn't have time for a run, her whole day just felt odd. Today, Scout was jogging along beside her, keeping pace with her own who had the leash attached to her wrist. Then before her eyes another dog appeared and she slowed down, tightening her hands on Scout's leash before she got overexcited or scared. She never could tell sometimes the way the rescue pittie would react. She seemed interested, sniffing in the other dog's direction and wagging her stubbed tail slightly. "It's all good," CJ called as the other dog was called away. "I just don't know how mine might treat other dogs. She had a bit of a rough life before."
eyes bounce between the newly organised shelf, bottom lip tucked between her teeth as a hand rests on her hip. she isn't sure how she feels about the layout, but yumi also knows that perfection isn't realistic ( no amount of hoping will change that ). a few more seconds tick by before she finally wipes her hands of the ordeal, nearly jumping when she feels someone join her. schooling her features, her customer service mask slips into place and she addresses them with a gentle wave: ❝ hey there, hon. welcome! lookin' for anything special or are you just stoppin' in to keep me company? ❞
While CJ wasn't a big reader, she did occasionally pick up a book. It was just hard to capture her attention for that long without something exciting happening. Hence, she usually read mysteries, suspense, or horror. And most of her book recommendations came from her brother who was a total nerd. She laughed a little when the other jumped, clearly startling her. "Can't it be both? I'm sure most people come in here looking for one thing but end up enjoying your company more."
(arielle kebbel, ciswoman, she/her) hey, is that CJ THORN over there? i’m pretty sure they’re a THIRTY-SIX year old FIREFIGHTER that lives in DOWNTOWN they’ve been here for NINE YEARS, right? i’ve heard they’re really BRAVE but can also be a bit IMPULSIVE. for some reason, i always think of the smell of smoke on flushed skin, asking for forgiveness rather than permission, and a smile that hide mischief whenever i see them.
Hi! Here's the info on CJ!
CJ is short for Caroline Jane, but hardly anyone knows that.
Originally from LA
Comes from a huge family! Tons of siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, etc. She grew up being the youngest girl and really close to her brothers, so a huge tomboy.
She was what you might call a mischievous teenager/child. It wasn't that she did bad things, but she would get into trouble. Mostly for doing dumb shit with her brothers and friends and pulling pranks.
Adrenaline junkie through and through. Something dangerous and or stupid? She's first to volunteer.
Hence her profession. She grew up with her uncle, dad, and several cousins as firefighters, paramedics, or cops. It was in her DNA. She liked the idea of helping people, but the danger and physical challenges part was also a bit of a plus for her too. And finding a way to prove herself just as strong if not stronger than the guys? Well how can a woman say no to that?
Nine years ago, she decided she wanted a change of pace, so she moved out here and transferred to the Sapphire Cove fire station. So far it has been a good experience though she has gotten into it with her fellow firefighters over her impulsivity and recklessness.
She lives in an apartment downtown with her rescue pit bull Scout.
She loves food especially burgers, bbq, and pizza. She's not really a fan of sushi or shrimp
She is heterosexual and been single for quite a while.
Some plots I could see for her are friends, neighbors, workout/running buddies, drinking buddies, another adrenaline junkie to do dumb shit with, coworkers or people who work in a similar field, hookups, past flingers, etc.
