Kids interact with other shinobi go!!
And а little bonus:
One of the worst parts about Ichigo/Orihime as a pairing is that I like both of them and I think they could make a very cute couple of overpowered weirdos together, but the writing is just NOT THERE for them most of the time. It is NOT supporting them as a compelling couple so far and NOT delivering on the potential chemistry.
You know when someone writes fanfiction for your ship and you want to enjoy it, but it's just so OOC and they've filed all the interesting rough edges off the characters and don't explore what it would actually be like for these two to be life partners? So, it's like, "This isn't even really my ship... You fucking Gentrified Flanderized Them." It's like that but it's fucking canon, baby.
I would rather a relationship not become canon at all than become canon in the most boring way possible. "Naruto" is the same way. How are these authors so dedicated to making potentially perfectly tolerable ships suck sooooo bad most of the time? (I know it's the misogyny. They CANNOT write women consistently well.) I am almost delighted with frustration.
At least with "One Piece", despite the many writing crimes committed against female characters all the fucking time, I feel relatively certain that Oda will kill Luffy off at the end of the story before he writes an epilogue where Luffy is married with kids.
tenten makes me insane though because i think shes actually very confident in her identity in a very different way from most of her peers. like she becomes a shinobi because she enjoys fighting as a sport- and that fundamentally warps the way she views things!! it creates a sense of isolation between her and other because she doesnt buy into the narrative of konoha as Good really- i dont think she exactly thinks about the exact ways that it causes harm, especially when shes younger, but shes divorced fighting from anything related to morality and that makes her weird!! and like. i think she loves weapons. i think she makes all the one she uses, and i think she really loves sparring with them. but as time goes on and the people she knows start dying and she doesnt stop loving it, i think she feels bad. i think she starts to wish that she didnt love fighting. its sport to her. she wishes it was sport to more people so that she could enjoy it. i dont think she believes anything shes doing is justified. like girllll
all thats of course paralleled with lee's (and tbh by extension gai's) full-hearted belief in konoha as an institution + his own pleasure he derives from fighting. he likes taijutsu and of course he does because he is fighting for what is right!!! sometimes it is hard but hard things are of course good to do (the catholic guilt). i think there is a gulf between them. i do not think they understand each other.
even funnier headcanon than 'wolf hatake' is that they're just. normal guys. No kekkei genkai or anything. They're all straight up farmers who, due to their unmatched abilities in the fields (literal) and their general, absolutely insane amount of information needed to know how to farm, ended up becoming crazy good shinobi.
@sanska you get the vision
he’s so pretty 🥺(<-mentally unstable)
the most comedic thing anyone could ever write for a Warring states era Tobirama centric is teenage (12-16) Tobirama just. Dominating the political field of the Senju.
He's that guy. Tobirama just thinks he's fulfilling the duties of clan heir but literally everyone is watching him in shock because- what?? The guy has an insane understanding of when exactly to stop and is instead overachieving in every field possible.
Butsuma's insane standards for Tobi are most definitely to blame.
Tobirama holding up his blade, painted with the hiraishin for the first time, and going "I can't wait to see Izuna to dodge this."
Only for Izuna to not dodge it, and for both the reader and Tobirama himself to realize he'd been truly genuine when he said he was excited to see how Izuna would dodge his new technique
hm. yeah.
Comfort Sketch!
Got a puppy (already had a dog) and I've been struggling finding time, energy and motivation to draw. I decided to move my csp licence to my iPad to hopefully draw more even while I watch the dogs, not sure if it's going to work but I made this sketch to try!
Narutaugust2023 day 1 - Redraw
Super excited about this challenge, I wanted to join last year but I found out too late dbjdjd I suck at finishing monthly challenges so we'll see how it goes!
Woke up today and thought abt Naruto
spent too long thinking about if naruto has ever actually seen a sock before
I’ve been really into kakashi lately
Absolutely wilding that Tobirama's take on ending war is "people should just stop having feelings." I mean, it is a very nine-year-old take but it's pretty clear he holds that stance close for the rest of his life (may not be great at following it, but holds the idea). I like the interpretations that have him semi-parenting his other siblings; we can see that he's already got the "just shut your mouth and do what needs to be done because nobody else is going to" philosophy of parentified kids down.
I mostly don't like the interpretations that stretch sensor types to basically empaths because I feel like it loses some of what makes the idea unique to Naruto (the active choice to sense, the limited nature of the ability). For Tobirama, though...it feels fitting to me that he'd have a hypersensitivity to aggression. Not reading feelings as a whole, but just aggression/violence.
It helps paper over a few inconsistencies regarding how good sensing is supposed to be, and for a kid that ended up playing promoted-parent, that's exactly the skillset you end up with--hypersensitivity to when things are about to go bad, because it's going to be your job to head that off at the pass. That trained hypersensitivity can also set you to jumping at shadows or making people think that you're looking for a fight, because, well...you are, in a sense. You never trust, you're always looking for how a situation is going to go bad and how you're going to get out in one piece.
Notice I didn't say win, I said get out. In the scene with Kawarama's grave, Tobirama lies to and appeases Butsuma even though his personal feelings are the opposite. His goal was not to prove the rightness of his philosophy, but to get Hashirama (and Itama) out of the funeral without further violence. Even for a shonen manga with bloodthirsty nine-year-olds, that's thinking a lot of steps ahead with a lot of subterfuge--and it's not even a canon-typical level of child insight, because Itama and Hashirama standing right there fail to defuse the scene.
In spite of running jokes about how dumb he is working up a lot of steam, Hashirama is not incapable of subterfuge or thinking ahead! He suspects Madara's identity from the first five minutes they meet, identifying Madara's stone-skipping as identical to shuriken-throwing. He recognizes this, recognizes that there would be negative consequences if he let on the truth about what he was seeing, and played dumb. And it worked. Hashirama absolutely had the skillset necessary to talk Butsuma down in the funeral scene and had already demonstrated skill with it.
Hashirama wanted to win against Butsuma; Tobirama wanted to survive.
And I think this behavior tracks neatly with his lifelong paranoia about Madara; even when it's sabotaging himself, he cannot stop fixating on how things can go wrong and how he can contain the damage.
imagine if naruto were just some random poor baby minato decided to install the nine tailed beast within in order to save his dying wife. naruto not being the child of the hokage is a more reasonable explanation as to why he doesn’t get special treatment for being his only surviving child (with a fuckin uzumaki no less) and why no one ever tells him about minato being his dad throughout his life in the village. it also gives minato some personality outside the stale ‘pretty hokage guy’ who is somehow very nice despite serving a military state utilizing child soldiers well enough he was made hokage at like 23. and the conflict that would have arose between minato and kushina in kushina’s last moments? for condemning a child to the fate of a jinchuuriki like her for most of her life? and then the stupid ass plan backfiring anyway cus they all die when kurama still wreaks havoc on konoha after the jinchuuriki transfer goes wrong. and now the village has no hokage and everyone tiptoes around the unknowing child that somebody decided to put a nuclear weapon in. no bum ass indra vs ashura/senju vs uchiha/good vs evil endgame rivalry shit, just naruto being some guy who’s been thrown into some mess since he was born. a walking casualty of the hidden villages.
naruto keeping true to the underdog message of the earlier manga… minakushi not being a sickeningly perfect couple but one torn apart by morals in their last days… no overdone “special bloodline”/“prophecy child” tropes… NO KAGUYA…
kaguya can stay only if she is mentioned from the very beginning rather than towards the end AND that’s as a mythological figure only; an origin story across the shinobi nations and is invoked only for the sense of antiquity and humanity her name brings, especially among those from dojutsu clans. not as a straight up big boss whose appearance is a total ass-pull in a tired attempt to replace madara’s place as the final antagonist of the story.
your mind.
