day 248 of thinking about jack von pyroscythe i bet day 249 will be different
*hits the joint* In the Harry Potter universe, Merlin is canonically a Hogwarts alumni and a Slytherin, which is impossible because Merlin predates the existence of Hogwarts by centuries. Of course, JK Rowling didn’t know that because she is a dumb bitch. I’m sorry. Misogynistic phrasing. She is a willfully ignorant and hateful, deeply unlikable and ill-informed, untalented and unspeakably cruel…..person. Seriously, how could you write a series about British wizards without truly understanding THE British wizard. Anyway, Merlin would never be able to attend any sort of organized schooling. He’s definitely self-taught in every universe because he’s the most powerful wizard ever AND he’d have been expelled from any institution before he stepped through the door. The only reason they haven’t escorted him away from Camelot is because he can see the future and he is kind of like the king’s dad. I was so disappointed by BBC Merlin. I turned it on and I was like “What the fuck is this shit, where is my perverted old man?”
"they've had intercourse" "i know that i'm asking if they've kissed"
i think abt this a lot
Very generally speaking, when you see a black man in a piece of media, be it tv show, movie, video game, etc. there’s something you often see a lot of writers do. To go against the stereotype of black men (and black people in general) being dumb and lazy, you’ll see this black male character being smart and an achiever.
The Black Nerd. A common character type, the nerd will always be very interested in all things nerdy: science, video games, mathematics, etc. In an continued effort to combat stereotypes, the Black Nerd will be lack athleticism, probably being asthmatic (the nerdiest of conditions). The Black Nerd will dress smartly, suspenders and bow ties. They’ll always talk smart too, using proper English with complex words.
Now, I don’t have a problem with a black character being a nerd, indeed black people are a people; we aren’t all the same and we all have varying personalities. The problem I have is that too often we see a distinct disconnect between Blackness and the Black Nerd. The Black Nerd doesn’t listen to hip hop or rap, only classical music. The Black Nerd only has white friends, the only other black characters are into not nerdy stuff. The Black Nerd never ever uses AAVE at any time in any context.
And again I must say that Black people, not being a monolith, there are no hard fast rules to being Black. I’m more than sure there are Black people like what I’ve described above, I’m not saying it’s impossible; what I’m getting at is that the only Black Nerd we see. There are Black Nerds that play basketball, that bump Kendrick Lamar, and use AAVE since it’s an ever changing dialect. I’m just saying there’s no one way of being a nerd and no one way of being Black.
Well @dumbey, seems we’re in similar boats
This ain’t about him, this is about Black/Asian solidarity. Focus.
So I'm trying to learn to roller skate! I always wanted to, but I lived out in the country as a kid with no good surface for it, and never managed to learn then. I was afraid to try as an adult until a friend got into roller derby--and now I've already bruised my tailbone during my first time out, so good start, right?
But I'm going again tonight! I have my pads ready (including a tailbone pad this time, looking ridiculous is worth the protection) and that just means skates to match.
Lucky for me, the lovely @maplelantern recently gave me a pair of skates when I visited her and they fit perfectly and are super comfortable...but a little worn and boring.
So, I did what any reasonable former cosplayer would do. I decided to paint them!
About twenty years ago someone I know wrote a book about decorating shoes--if you can find a copy, it's called Sassy Feet and has a bunch of examples and a great techniques. I've painted a bunch of my shoes since, so I dug into my stash and pulled out the book to refresh myself and went to work!
First step was cleaning and prep. Unlacing the boots and cleaning the faux leather surface with acetone--which also nicely removed all of the purple design already present!
Then I had to choose paint colours. The type of paint that works best I already knew from the book--Lumiere by Jacquard. I had planned to buy some, but then remembered I had a sampler pack from some art box I once got, so that worked out perfectly!
Once I'd decided I didn't have exactly what I wanted, but could mix it up from what I had, I started painting!
(For those that might be interested, I ended up using Pearlescent Magenta (the pink), a 4:1 mix of Pearlescent Turquoise and Pearlescent Emerald (the teal/green), a 1:1 mix of Pearlescent Magenta and Pearlescent Turquoise (the violet), Halo Blue Gold (the tongue) and Halo Violet Gold the trim).)
First couple of coats, still streaky, but a good start.
After too many coats to count to get a good brush stroke and streak free finish on the original bright white pleather, I sealed them with--of all things--floor sealer that's used in hobby circles and does a great job of keeping the paint safe.
And here they are!
I'm super happy with how they turned out. A friend said they remind him of bowling shoes, and while that's not what I was initially going for, I love the comparison. Roller skating rinks and bowling alleys definitely have similar vibes to me--even if I won't have to put on rentals now when I go skating!
And as a bonus for anyone reading this far--swirly pearlescent paint water!

People on Tumblr love sharing information about themselves no matter how asinine it is. And I'm the same way. Everybody tell me what the last thing you drank was.
do you ever tell people you’ll be going to sleep but then you don’t and you have to not do anything noticable online for the sake of it seeming as if you didn’t lie to them
the last time i got sloppy with this @tinynaught Columbo’d me
this post is classic tumblr in a lot of ways but the one I appreciate the most is that the second post happened eleven years after the first one. one of these days I’m going to see a reply to a post by someone younger than the post itself and we’re all just going to have to deal with it
First Blood
so ive been playing a vsmp game with some friends since the beginning of this year, and i may or may not have a ton of doodles from it i might post (everything will be tagged #gvsmp)
i got my ass killed by @raintalon82 in the first session lmfao, drowned in the river after throwing myself off the bridge when the castle came into view in the moonlight
He's right
I didn’t realize there were so many people getting destroyed by mattresses 😂
