WHAT
after 6 weeks and a brief break for some carpal tomfoolery, the Autorefractor sweater i've been envisioning for like a year is DONE!! this is the first time i've made up a colorwork chart from scratch, so i was holding my breath until the very last stitch, but i couldn't be happier 🥹
for the curious: the base sweater stitch counts are from the Olga by petiteknit, with some modifications to allow for knitting flat/double knit hems. large color fields were worked intarsia, with duplicate stitch detailing.
Today I bring to show and tell:
A 3d printed circular sock machine (csm)! It works pretty well (even if it is quite loud) and I'm so happy with it!
It was made with files from:
My first project was a cast on bonnet, you hang the loops on every other needle to start knitting (you can't knit without any weight hanging on the work, so you need something to start from).
I followed this tutorial:
And I "cast on" the first time without a bonnet using what I dub the chaos method in the second halve of this video:
Here you can see me playing a bit with the tension. Unfortunately, I can't get tight enough tension to make socks that fit me with this cilinder.
Currently I have a 64 stitch cilinder on there (my usual go to amount when handknitting), with a max gauge of 3 stitches per centimeter. When I handknit socks I get a gauge of 3.5 stitches per centimeter. It doesn't seem like much of a difference, but on a sock that is 3 centimeters difference in diameter. That ends up in a sock that's way too big for me.
I'll print another cilinder with less stitches, but I'm still debating whether that one should have 60 or 54 stitches (the available options). 3 cm should be 10 stitches less, but I read that a cilinder with less stitches creates a higher tension anyway. So maybe 54 stitches will end up too small.
Much to think about and experiment with!
I got water soluble cross stitch material, so I'm trying it out on a pajama shirt. (Also if anyone has tips for dissolving it I would appreciate it very much...)
Results!
And a bonus mini-project I made for my sister's birthday:
i realised i never posted my Country Goose Sweater! Pattern is by Carol Huber, knitted on 4.0mm and 5.0mm needles with Drops Nepal yarn

after a month of stitching on and off, I finally finished this piece - A Glimpse in Space by @dinchenix!
You can get the pattern here for free :D
I made sooooo many counting errors and even ran out of a colour lol. But thankfully, space is ever-changing so it doesn't really matter
i gave up
its done - during the process i lost my favorite needle which made me want it to be done

December, Week 1: Sweater
I created a holiday drawing challenge with one of my friends at my weekly art group at the library. ❤️
For the months of October, November, and December, we will create 5 pieces each based on seasonal prompts. 🍂🦃☃️
What started out as an aesthetic decision to frog back the salmon sheep to eliminate the extra white row when the chart repeated, turned into a frustratingly epic foray into repairing multiple issues.
I had to learn how to thread in an afterthought lifeline to safely frog back about 8 hours of work to reknit the grey sheeps where a surprise dropped stitch was discovered. Then I needed another lifeline to frog back half those sheeps again when I discovered a surprise extra stitches around had appeared. Also ended up downsizing the cable as the colourwork was being stretched too much whilst knitting.
In total, all of that, plus an extra row of sheep equated to about 14 hours of work.
Look who actually finished spinning a skein of yarn! It’s inconsistent and underplied but it’s yarn and it’s pretty
Now if only I could work on my actual project spins…
