A truthberry might make you tell the truth... But a lieberry? A lieberry will loan you books
Duras killed the last Chancellor, K'empec, before Gowron, Worf killed Duras, who was not Chancellor at the time, not for killing K'empec, but for killing K'Ehleyr.
Yes I am that kind of Star Trek fan

Happy pride month!
[lit. May you(pl.) enjoy pride month!]
Cishet peoples' feelings is collateral damage at best
Buddy if "let allies attend and participate in pride" reads to you as "what if excluding them makes them feel bad :(" and not "Shit Is So Fucking Hard Right Now, We Are Going To Flood The Streets In So Much Unity And Love That Fuckers Think Twice Before Screwing With Any Of Us" then I'm not sure what to tell you
I do not understand people's reticence to having allies. We're literally fighting for our right to exist having allies helps us immeasurably.
Having them at Pride is just strategic good sense, it shows everyone how many people are in this with us. It literally boosts our numbers though it's more than that base math. It boosts morale for queers to see other people willing to stand and be counted alongside us.
How is this not a clearly obvious net positive?
I don't think I'll ever understand Klingons.
This scene is such a beautiful encapsulation of how DS9 handles the subject of faith and religion in a way that no trek before it had (it could definitely be hard on a certain type of a believer, but they didn't go all "we have outgrown such silly superstitions the way TOS and TNG did). And how they handle complex issues more generally, honestly. Like these are two DEEPLY spiritual people who are talking to each other about their very different belief systems. One wishes her gods would be a little more involved, one thinks his ancestors did the right thing killing their gods. They are having this conversation surrounded by their largely atheist crewmates. Kira isn't depicted as ridiculous for being a devout worshiper of the Prophets, the death of the Klingon gods isn't treated like a great loss for the Klingon people (or even like any kind of victory or turning-point. it was just a thing that happened), and no one else in the room is scoffing at the sincerely-held beliefs these two people have and that largely inform their attempts to be better people. Three radically different approaches to faith ("we need more of the gods in our life", "the gods are dead because we got sick of their dicking around", and "gods? um... i mean as long as your faith means you try to be a good person, we won't judge"). And none are treated as being any worse or better than the others. They can all coexist comfortably because mature adults can agree to disagree.
This kind of approach was always what made Deep Space Nine so special to me back in the day. There's just this underlying assumption baked into the worldbuilding that people can be radically different from each other without being perceived as Wrong or Misguided. (I mean, unless you're an augment, we need to lock those freaks up!) Especially for the 90s, it was so wonderful to see people with diametrically opposed beliefs who liked and respected each other and didn't have to argue about who is "right" and who is "wrong". And they approached all kinds of topics other than religion with that same mindset, which gives the show so many more layers (and the characters and relationships so much more nuance) than most of the Trek that had come before.
And they managed all that when Rick Berman wasactively pressuring them to make DS9 more like TNG. I salute the writers, actors, and all the other people involved who allowed DS9 to happen and made something so beautiful 🫡
even if not all of it has aged great
I don't think I'll ever understand Klingons.
You know... Worf does not do hyperbole, for that is not the Way of Prune Juice, so to him, a mere 1000 years is ancient history.
Now, this isn't canon, but the best guess for one Klingon year is just under 600 Earth days. I don't know how long a day on Qo'noS is, but given that it's a Minshara class planet, probably similar to Earth.
Which means Klingon civilization is about 2000 years old give or take... Given that the time of Kahless was when we were around 850 CE, that tracks.
This means that Klingon civilization grew alarmingly fast in their technology.
At some point in their past the Klingons are invaded by the HurQ, from whom the Klingons stole warp drive, energy weapons and possibly a rudimentary cloaking device. This would explain their rapid technological development, and their slow social development
I absolutely blame Facebook for this shift. Words cannot describe how freaking WEIRD it was in the mid-00s when there was suddenly this popular website where you were required to use your real, brickspace name and encouraged to post photos of yourself. Every single bit of Standard Internet Safety prior to then said that you should never ever ever do either of those.
Please stop he is drowning…..
Gone forever
we need more stories about high femme prom queen types who become weird faggy guys. you haven't seen Behaviors until you've seen a repressed closeted tboy holding on to socially acceptable heterosexual femininity by the skin of his teeth
Me before I came out, when I did pageants and modeling.
Me after I came out, cut off my hair, bought comfortable clothes, and decided to actually wear my glasses because fuck contacts.
This was me the day of my junior prom. The dress weighed around 20 lbs, was the first one I tried on, and my makeup was done by someone who still thought brown lip liner looked good on white people. I spent the entire day being photographed and generally hating how I looked and wishing I could figure out why, when everything was technically perfect.
And this was me about eleven years later- two weeks after I started T in the first photo, and at around 5 months on T in the second. Much happier, married to the love of my life, and finally looking like myself!
Such girl, very wow (pro ballet, modeling, and my first wedding)
Came out in 2016, here's nine years of transformation (in reverse order, sorry)
Turns out I'm neither a Normal Guy nor a woman, but a much weirder type of faggy masc thing.
And that's pretty great.
In my lifestyle lolita egg era. Somehow getting to dress like a princess gave me the will to get up in the morning
1 year and 5 months on T
granted being a big ol goth doesn't really fit the bill of "socially acceptable heterosexual femininity" but i was HYPER feminine when i was closeted, especially in the years between when i FIRST tried to come out (age 16 - around the time of those first photos) and when i actually made the jump (age 19 - about a year after the last photo)
you can tell in that second to last photo i literally got a tattoo that said "MAD GIRL" which was an exercise in many things, including abstract self-harm, a visual reminder that i had given up on myself, and wildly underestimating the number of dudes who would misread it as BAD GIRL and take that as a cue to say gross shit to me while i was at work
anyway never kill yourself
haha yeah 🫣
consciously dipped my toes into the gender fuckery pool at around 15/16 but I was pentecostal at the time and well. took them out real quick
i tried very very hard to be “femme” for a LONG time but during covid lockdowns I didn’t have to perform for anyone and I slowly started to let it all go and now I’m a silly little man 😌
ahem
these are about 10 years apart, 7 years on t and 5 years post op. it gets better guys
what 10 years away from a label that didnt fit and 1.5 years of T does to a mf
Scrolling through, seeing all the afters, I'm going 'oh hell yeah! that's awesome!' for each and every one. Love seeing stuff like this.
Can I be honest with yall I don't want to hear SHIT against cishets at pride this year
Balatro recently updated, banning all scoring for Straights (poker hand) for the entirety of June.

it's real now
in conversation about white people who go to Japan and expect their knowledge of anime to culturally carry them, I was once posed with “it’s like if there was a Japanese guy who was obsessed with spongebob and came over here and thought he could get by just communicating in spongebob quotes.” This is a false equivalence because if such a man existed we would crown him king. We’d love him. Americans would fucking love that. sometimes I get sad that this isn’t a real guy I can invite to a party.
Ok the last one got me laughing actually
No description of Americans I, or anyone, could ever muster would be as damning as the reality of Americans.
They can't be insulted because there's no bottom to their depravity.
More than "here in the Southern Hemisphere we have inverted seasons :)" thing, which is TECHNICALLY true, I would go a step further and encourage to think about that "much of the world does not exactly has a spring-summer-fall-winter season sequence as they show in cartoons"
I will scream about this to anyone who listens forever. AUSTRALIA DOES NOT HAVE "ENGLISH SEASONS BUT BACKWARDS" and the insistence that it does creates a massive layer of alienation from the natural world.
I never really realised how much difference it makes until I went to England and realised that here the change of seasons is an obvious, visible, physical change in the world. Like, everything REALLY IS orange and foggy in autumn! In spring there are flowers EVERYWHERE, so much more than any other season, and the trees really do have all blossom and no leaves. Even if it doesn't snow, in winter there's frost all the time and the trees are bare and the sky is visibly greyer all the time. You don't need to be told "this date is the first day of spring", you can SEE IT (although this is getting way messier and less precise due to climate change).
By contrast, most places in Australia the seasons we're taught feel like arbitrary categories - and is it any surprise considering they're colonial constructs? Orange-leaved autumn and blossom-covered spring is a cartoon stereotype with no relevance on a continent where ALL NATIVE TREES ARE EVERGREEN!! Snowy winters are a joke in the desert, and even sunny summers don't ring particularly true considering that much of the country is in the tropics, where summer means monsoons - not that I've ever seen the concept that WE HAVE A MONSOON SEASON taught at an Australian school.
Most Indigenous nations around Australia had six or more seasons, revolving around wet and dry times as much as hot and cold, and marked by the appearances of certain native animals and flowers. Schools need to start teaching the real seasons, and explaining that climate cycles are too complex to generalise globally, or else we will keep raising generations who view the natural world as hostile and unpredictable and climate predictions as generally irrelevent and frequently wrong - and I'm sure I don't need to spell out why that's a problem in the era of climate crisis.
i want to add that 40% of the world's population lives in the tropics, and the 4 season model just doesn't make much sense for a lot of places in there. usually it's just the wet season/monsoon season and the dry season. it's often hot year round.
the 4 season model as you and i know it is a european invention, though 4 season models aren't unique to europe! most notably china has the same type of season subdivision.
in general the way humans define seasons is largely subjective and varies across cultures. the one you were taught is not at all universal!
Noongar Seasons (South West Western Australia), this feels a lot better to think about them the typical four seasons. It is currently Makuru, and we have definitely been getting more gusty storms.
it takes 10 layers of the water filter to completely drown a tumblr screenshot if anyone was wondering
What is the water filter? And why do people use it?
Father Strange, when considering the famous shoelaces code, do you interpret the president they were stolen from to be whichever US president is currently in office, or is it still Obama? I've held in my heart that it has been Obama this whole time
I also feel like The Shoelace President is Obama but I'm curious what Tumblr at large thinks
Who did you steal your shoelaces from?
Obama
Whoever is current US president
A non-US president (put in tags)
Any President of any grouping of people that has a President, whichever is funniest
