Right now my Big Interests are Trigun (any version, I'm not a purist like some I've seen in the space) and Honkai: Star Rail, but I'm into like. A ton of shit. I also play a fuck ton of tabletop RPGS.

I use my block button as kind of a Surefire Not Interested, so like... ig don't take it as an affront if I block you. I just take great pains to curate my online experiences because of my own anxiety.

I’m watching the Backrooms YT series to prepare for seeing the movie with my mom and potentially hot take: I don’t think there being a Creature in the Backrooms ruins the horror, especially not with how Kane Pixel implements it

Spoilers for the YouTube series under the cut if anyone cares. TL;DR if Backrooms was going to be more than the original text post, there would have to be something added to the original concept:

The monster in Kane Pixels’ version of the Backrooms is only in the first video for a LONG time. It’s there, it’s menacing, and then it’s gone for several episodes without even an implicit mention, leaving the audience to stew in what’s gonna happen when the monster we know exists does show up again because it could happen anywhere at any time.

There is the social horror of whatever A-Sync wants to do with the Backrooms when they first discover it (you look me dead in my eyes and tell me that it wouldn’t be the lower levels of society that end up forced to live in the Infinite Windowless Piss-Coloured Hallway Dimension,) but that 1. wasn’t in the original text post either so treating that as inherently better than the original monster is strange to me (and reads a bit like that weird “elevated horror” discussion that enters the space every once in a while and goes nowhere), and 2. isn’t something the Backrooms As A Location has going on.

I guess my point here is that the Backrooms, as a concept, I don’t think could have made it past the original text post without something added to it because the original post just boils down to “imagine if you no-clipped into a weird dimension and couldn’t get home, wouldn’t that be wild?” which is, admittedly, wild, but not something you could really explore as a concept without adding more to it like, say, the SPC Foundation, which always had a pretty broad definition of what counted as an SCP. I think KP adding both a creature for mostly suspense purposes and a government body to add to the mystery are more than fine.
