my area has tons of historical Dense/Mixed Use Housing templates and developers never want to draw from them and I am Mad
why is it NIMBY to some people to say "I'm not opposed to new dense housing in my area at all; in fact, I'm for it! but I don't want it to be basic cubes or glass towers since that's not what the area looks like, people like the character it currently has, and people who need affordable housing deserve NICE housing, too (and presumably also want to move here for the character it currently has, as opposed to other areas with more modern designs)"
but it's somehow not NIMBY when developers refuse to propose anything besides basic cubes and glass towers
we're not the ones who dug in our heels first, it seems to me
the town where I grew up was established in 1799 and needed to replace crumbling 1970s building stock in the historical (mostly late 19th-early 20th century) downtown area about a decade ago
these are new-build row houses
new-build hotel
proposal for a new city hall opening in 2027
these buildings are clearly new! they don't look old as such! but they do fit
it CAN be done. stop with the excuses, developers
