Fuck you Tumblr. Actually fuck you. Oh my god
So targeted harassment campaigns are totally fine as long as there's a trans woman at the end of it. Cool. Awesome. What the fuck
like. cards on the table: at first, i thought, hey, maybe the framing and recounting of the predstrogen situation is (understandably) biased because this seems really fucking weird, even for tumblr.
but, for real, it does just look like a series of repeated mass-reports drew staff attention to her and inevitably got her accounts flattened for entirely normal edge-case posting.
like, repeatedly, mass-reports happened, she'd appeal and get it reversed, and then it'd happen again, until finally it stuck. oh boy, did it stick! permanent lifetime ban.
the "death threats" that got her banned were cartoon-violence grumblings (responding to getting stung by bad-faith mass reporting) and the "harassment" seems to have just been pointing out specific user accounts that were needling her or outright harassing her. neither are against rules unless you're taking a bizarrely bad-faith reading of things.
and of course, all of this was her direct response to repeatedly being falsely reported and having to wade through the drawn-out, unresponsive appeals process while far worse content and accounts remained untouched, despite being reported.
also there was the whole "incredibly obvious and malicious rape/pedo-jacketing mass-anon disinfo campaign" run against her.
deeply uncomfortable that the CEO of tumblr took to posting about the mean anon threats he was getting about the situation, but didn't say a peep about the *genuinely malicious* threats and harassment predstrogen was getting. like. that's not worth a quick callout, lil buddy? you can't see why people are pissed?
anyhow. car hammers, or whatever.
i saw you use cohost. would you recommend is as a good/active twitter alternative? im getting tired of the hell hole that this bird website is
i really love cohost and the community there but it is absolutely NOT a twitter alternative. if anything it's a tumblr alternative.
here's my small speech about cohost and why i like it
it's a mix between tumblr and livejournal which is fun
the community is very fun and active! when i made my intro post i had a dozen people leaving a comment welcoming me to cohost which is a very nice feeling
it is very much NOT about likes and follower counts. in fact, there is no way for anyone to know how many likes a post has, or how many followers someone has. YOU dont even know how many followers you have
the only visible number is the number of comments on a post, which is where the community comes from: if you want people to know a post is great, you gotta leave a comment saying so!!!
you can have as many links as you want on your profile, AND you can have links be only visible to logged in users, only to people following you, or only visible to pages you follow... so it's a great way to have your discord only be visible to certain people for example
if you DO want a more twitter-like experience, there is a tag that's The Global Cohost Feed, so you have a bunch of posts from a lot of people
when you first join you will have a few days where you can't post anything, but you can still look at posts and share them. a lot of it must be so cohost can prepare code to bring you in or whatever, BUT it also means you get those couple of days to get to know the culture of the website a bit more! it's lovely
chronological feed my beloved
no algorithm my beloved
cohost does have some issues (adding images is a PAIN), but the staff is working really hard to fix them and is always listening to people's feedback! i like cohost a lot. join me
bumping this. for reasons. join me <3
sharing this today for No Particular Reason, but i also want to add a few more bullet points, some of which are features added in the time since the original post was made:
adult content is allowed on cohost, if you miss being able to post that freely
cohost has asks and audio posts, two beloved tumblr features that most other sites lack
you can enable anonymous asks while also requiring your anons to be logged into cohost, which is extremely helpful in combating anon hate
cohost has an email inbox-like "following" page that shows you a list of everyone you're following and their most recent posts. this is good for checking to see what you missed from people who don't post as often and would otherwise get buried on your feed by your more active mutuals
and, last but not least, while most posts just use the default formatting, cohost is very generous with the amount of custom CSS styling you're allowed to use in your posts, which has lead to a user culture that embraces "CSS crimes." sometimes this just means people changing the fonts on their posts, but other times it gets way more elaborate with animated or even interactive elements. i once saw someone make an elaborate interactive puzzle box within a cohost post
in general, these days cohost is the only alternative social media where i actually like being active and posting thoughts and talking to people, where it feels like it's developed its own enjoyable user culture that isn't just "haha wow glad we're not on that OTHER site anymore, am i right guys?" it's not a 1:1 replacement for any of the big sites, nor is it designed to be, but it's a site that i like spending time on
Fuck you Tumblr. Actually fuck you. Oh my god
Also idk it's fucked that the "queerest place on the Internet" will fully believe any unfounded lies from violent transphobes (and I'm not just talking about staff, but OTHER queer users spreading misinformation about said trans woman) as long as it helps them get rid of their persistent "problem". Do fucking better, and stop believing anonymous faceless rumors ESPECIALLY those about trans fems
Got to draw a cool robot raptor for my latest art trade event!
The internet is so fucking weird to artists who make anything interesting "thanks! I hate it" "this is cursed" "i love this but i hate this" you realize some people aren't drawing memes all the time right and art can be a medium of expressing complex feelings and writing off ppls expressions as a joke is so weird i hate meme poisoned weirdos
Why'd you even fucking reblog this you dork ass loser. You're exactly the type of disrespectful person im talking about that mocks artists' work whether they're joking or not and think that artists don't have feelings just cuz they're online. The world doesn't revolve around your irony-poisoned memebrain interpretations of art. L + ratio + you're a little bitch + get lost
memebrained comments are also a huge problem on twitter to the point that they're making non-English speaking artists delete their works/private their accounts because the "jokes" don't translate well and the artists feel harassed.
also it's legitimately important to learn how to communicate without hiding behind memes and irony for more reasons than just this.
People really underestimate how hard it is to write a readably sarcastic comment, without using punctuation or any decorations around the text.
Most of what gives away sarcasm is tone, which you absolutely cannot intrinsically get from text.
Like for instance, bet you didn't expect this part bellow to have the tone being the forcedly deep and downright hurting voice batman has in "Batman the dark knight"
He made a costume of his favorite pokemon!!!

And the second batch of fast figure drawings
Upped the timer to 1 minute per drawing, this was way more comfortable, about 30 minutes for everything
